  1. I can tell you that my crash was caused by poor judgment. The Katana crash that I witnessed the second time out was caused by gravel, and Moose's crash was caused by gravel. This isn't a judgment thing, sometimes shit just happens. Don't make a mountain out of a molehill.

If I want to squish a molehill by putting a mountain on top of it, I'm going to. I wanna see you stop me!

  2. I can't believe I'm just reading this thread!

Don't worry guys, I get discrimination as well. I ride a lowly 250. :( Mr.A get's it even worse, being latino AND riding a 250! Are you riding along on the CSBA ride Mr.A? I hope not, I want to be the fastest 250 of the day!

  3. I know much of the evidence points to the fact that it's a 'location-based' fault (Coshocton) and/or rider error, but I think it's time we focus our efforts on the Katana's themselves. I'm hoping to get Ralph Nader on the case for another "Unsafe at any speed 2: The Katana"

Maybe we should start coming to terms that Katanas may just be the Corvairs of the motorcycle world...

WHile that thought HAD crossed my mind, I like the allure of it being something more unexplainable, something "mystic". Some sort of "anti-Katana" spirit roaming Kershockten county....

  4. I think the kid just said that all of the prior Katana riders lacked good judgment. I don't know if that's the best way to be thought of as special. Calling others out as having poor judgment will not endear you to them.

But, what if it's at a snail's pace? How much skill would it take to "power-walk" it all the way? THAT strategy MIGHT get a Katana through Kershocten!

  5. Agree.

"nobody buys a drill because they want a drill - they buy a drill because they want a hole."

How often do you see people wearing HD apparel? How many of them do you think actually OWN a bike? I'd bet it's less than half. the image is desirable even when the bike isn't attainable. If someone did that with Ferrari clothing, they'd be a total douche! I have no idea how HD has made it work!

my brother and I were out for a ride a couple of weekends ago, and 2 HD's stopped next to us at a light. Both riders and both female passengers were completely decked-out in HD gear.

I actually laughed out loud. I just can't picture a scenario where I say to my wife, "hey - wanna go for a ride?" and her response is, "sure! let me go put on my HD tank-top, HD long-sleeved t-shirt, HD denim jacket, and HD sun-glasses!" You'd think HD riders were going to a competition against another bike manufacturer - it's a motorcycle ride, not a cav's game. you don't need the t-shirt...

my gear is to protect me. Theirs is to let everyone know what kind of bike they're on  (none of those 4 had helmets btw - how can you be SEEN with a helmet on!?)

it IS a culture - I just happen to think it's a totally moronic culture. Lucky for HD, there are a lot of lemmings to buy their wares.

That's one reason that I didn't buy gear with bike brand names on it. I don't think I'd buy a jacket that has too big of a logo on it for the manufacturer of the jacket, either. I wear Iron Pony t-shirts all the time, because they were free, and to maybe have someone talk about RIDING, not JUST what kind of bike do you ride.

Just about the only brands I rock the name on clothing is Chevrolet, Mac Tools, and Snap-on. They're products that I DO have some loyalty toward, although I do drive a Dodge for my daily driver....

  6. Yes I have my endorsement, and what was said before, the price is a little high, especially considered it's had major repairs after what sounds like a fairly serious wreck. I guess I'll just have to see it in person and talk with him.

Don't let the wreck scare you off! It was put back together with all OE parts, and everything just bolted on.

  7. Fine and dandy, that fits my 'functionality' statement.

do you have an emotional reaction to either of these statements?

    2 fiddy? man that's a BITCH bike!

    or

A 250? Those are fun little bikes, good on gas and a great commuter!

    Not so much.

I like riding it, that's all that matters.

Jagr doesn't like it though, when we ride together he can't tell if the fan is running on his bike, or if it's just the 2 fiddy!

  8. Interesting philosophy, being seen and approved of by others for what I ride would not be a sales point for me, then again I'm anti-social. But in today's "hey look at me" society it works really well, and it's mostly what I see on the roads around my house...

We have a LOT of them in this area as well. There's a neighbor that does custom work on Harley's though, so we are going to see more.

We are all vain to a certain extent. Some buy a bike purely for the image and some buy for the functionality.

Most of us fall somewhere in the middle.

I like what I like because it appeals to ME and my needs, not to mention the opportunity factor, that was what was available when I was looking for something, for the price I could manage.

  9. well, got the xray results, fractured ring finger, and some torn ligaments, I go to see the specialist on thursday... looks like i'm gonna be out of the riding game till at least july... but I have plans for the katana... so i'll still be busy with things...

JULY???? Wow dude, how will you ever survive?

  10. I can speak for the condition of the bike. I test rode it the fall before he bought it. It runs well, and Chevysoldier is particular about taking care of his stuff. He did quite a bit of maintenance work to it while he had it. The current owner (I know him as well) hasn't put many miles on it since he's had it, from what I can tell.

These Ninja 250's get awesome fuel mileage, in the 60-70 MPG range, they handle well, have an upright seating position, a good all around beginner bike. I'm still riding mine, and the only real issue I have is that it's not very good for longer freeway rides especially on the interstate where traffic is running 75-80 mph, as the top speed isn't that much higher than that!
