  1. Congrats on turning the ST over 100k miles. My FJR just truned over 100k two weekends ago. It's always good to hear about high milage riders and bikes. I don't usually put the FJR up.Of course I don't ride nearly as much in the winter, but the FJR has never sat longer than two weeks since I bought it in late '03.So far this year I am still commuting on it nearly every day.We had a couple days in the mid 20's last week, which is pretty close to the bottom end of my riding window. It's showing some signs of all those winter rides and miles, but I still love it!We just rode 340 miles saturday on some very fun twisty roads south of Gallipolis.
  2. Here's a couple items from Pashnit.com that might help with trip planning in California. The pic is of highway 49,the link is the 5 best roads in California. http://www.pashnit.com/articles/FZ-5BestRoads.htm
  3. Thanks for making my point...if you want fake man made shit stay in high dollar motels,if you want the real thing and more interesting people, camp.
  4. Highway 1 is pretty cool the whole way,but I really liked the area around Fort Bragg...pretty twisty and nice high cliffs.Big sur, south of Montery is beautiful! The Golden Gate all the way to Ureka is pretty cool.If you're going to be in northern California be sure to ride SR 36,I missed it when I was out there and I have regretted it ever since.A good source for CA roads is Pashnit.com.Another good source is Destination Highways Northern California...tons of info.PM me you're address and you can borrow mine if you want to check it out. As for the redwoods...don't miss "The Avenue of the Giants" south of Ureka. You really should see Yosemite!!Going into the Yosemite valley from the west is one of the most beautiful sites in America. If you can swing the time ride the Sonora pass while you're in the Yosemite area.More big trees at the Mariposa Grove. Two incredible mountain roads...The Beartooth Pass and Chief Joseph Scenic Byways...West of Cody WY. If you haven't seen the Grand Canyon yet...it is truly awe inspiring!!! It's a shame you're wife won't camp, you meet a lot more interesting people camping. As someone said on another motorcycle forum,"I can't remember one motel room I've stayed in,but I'll never forget some of the campsites I stayed at."For me,one of those camp sites was Colter Bay at The Grand Tetons. Enjoy you're trip...this kind of trip can be a life changing experience. All in a good way.
  5. I'm thinking of ODOT's practice of edging newly paved roads with gravel' date='like 685 earlier this year... [img']http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y31/drc32-0/IMG_2121.jpg
  6. That's a very good route, you hit most of the highlights in the Hocking Hills. That would be an excellent fall colors ride.
  7. Jeez...I've been a very bad boy.I'm gonna have to go back and delete 80-90% of my posts.I tell everyone I can about every good road and every newly paved twisty road I come across. BTW...it's loose gravel that kills good roads, not loose lips.
  8. Have you ever ridden in southeastern Ohio? I went over and rode KY 227...very good road, but 536 is much more demanding.227 has a lot of very good medium to high speed sweepers whereas 536 is MUCH tighter and less predictable.
  9. 536 is still good, but a far cry from what it was when it was first paved back in 2007.I was working at Mitchell power house and staying in Shadyside.I would run 536 2 to 3 times in both directions about 4 nights a week. When it has fresh pavement I don't think there is a better road in Ohio. Another good thing about working at Mitchell...every Saturday I would take 147 from Bellaire to Belmont to get home and ride it back on Sunday night. It was in much better shape then too.
  10. Forums can tell you about some good roads, but if you're hunting for "hidden gems",the best way to find them is to explore.Get a Delemore Atlas,go to Google maps,go to the NCDOT site in March and look for upcoming paving projects. If you're willing to poke around, you'll find those hidden gems that even most of the locals don't know about.I've been riding seo roads for years and I found three more gems this year...none were mentioned on any internet site.
  11. A couple fall colors pics of newly paved 685 near Nelsonville... I love fall riding in s.e.o.!
  12. I just rode some of this route last weekend...368,607,227 and 127. Here's a couple pics of 227... For those who don't know 227,these top two pictures give you a good taste of the 18 miles of 227 below 22? down to 368. The western section of 607 between 127 and 227 was beautiful... If I was closer I would definitely be on this ride.I had 706 miles in going over and checking out these great roads last weekend. For those who follow rideohio, sorry about double posting these pics.
  13. I'd also add Thompson Ridge(off of 374),Big Pine between 374 and 664,Illsboro-Ceder Falls between 374 and 93. If you ride Illsboro-Ceder Falls stop in the wind chime shop about mid way. It's an interesting little store with some amazingly beautiful wind chime tones. In a totally different area...northeast of Marietta...255 is a great fall colors ride.Dalzell Rd from 821 to 565 is also very pretty in fall.
  14. lol So was I.I just got back...706 miles for the weekend.I got some pretty good pics of 227 and 607,I'll try to post some tomorrow.
  15. If you use a Delorme and explore,I gaurentee you,you will find great roads that very few other people know about.Internet sites and posts give you the better known roads, but if you are willing to dig a little deeper there are some real gems out there...even here in the flatlands of seo...I'm sure there are some undiscovered gems in Kentucky. BTW...I was heading over to check out 227 today,it was mentioned on another site also.
  16. The ultimate ride route planning tool... http://shop.delorme.com/OA_HTML/DELibeCCtdItemDetail.jsp?beginIndex=0&item=268&section=10096
  17. I'm a litte confused...664 at Junction City?664 to 216? I'm thinking 668 south out of J.C. to 93 east to 216.That section of 668 is beautiful and clean. They should be done paving 669 from Malta to Eagleport by now too. Enjoy the ride.
  18. About 11,000 so far this year.I ride most of the year,so I should put on another 2,000 or so by the end of the year.
  19. Very racist. Bad parenting knows no color lines. It's funny how racists always blame the other racial groups and never hold their own ancesters(it was white guy greed that brought blacks here in the first place),or their own groups actions, accountable. If you think I'm giving black folks a free pass, refer back to the second line of my post. Here in Muskingum county we just had a young woman burnt to death by a white woman and her two black friends. It was the white girl that instigated it.
  20. 669 from Malta to Eagleport is currently being paved. It will probably be done in a couple weeks...just in time for a fall colors ride along the river. This is the section of 669 that parallels the Muskingum river and takes you to Eagleport where 669 gets really good. 669 will now have new pavement from Malta all the way to Crooksville. Enjoy! P.S. By now they should be done paving the section of 800 from Antioch to 255.Fly to Antioch was paved last year,so this will extend the fun all the way to 255.
  21. That's why I got rid of my T.V. IN 2006...haven't missed it at all! I was in my teens when the original SNL aired...I don't think they will ever top the original cast.I can still remember King Tut,The Killer Bees,The Coneheads,Smarui T.V. Repairman,Weekend News(Jane you ignorant slut),Roseann Roseannadana,Landshark, and on and on.How can you top that shit?
  22. I do,I do.I've been playing on some of the good county roads in Muskingum,Hocking and Washington counties this year,so I'm always up for another good twisty county road. How's the pavement conditions? As soon as I get a new back tire on the bike I'll be up to check out CR19 and CR22.
  23. That's a great deal on one of the best motorcycle mags out there.I'm in the middle of a three year subscription or I would jump on this deal.I used to subscribe to 6 mags,I'm down to just two now...Rider and Motorcycle Consumer News.
