  1. Nope...didn't forget about the amperage. One of the main causes of injury due to getting shocked is falls.Grab that spark plug or Tesla coil on a ladder or even a bucket truck and tell me about current. Like I said...it's unlikely, but possible to hurt someone.I'm sure they ground out the de-energized lines before they work on them.We always do in industrial plants. There is always a chance of an idiot doing something stupid...more so when you're dealing with the general public.
  2. Very important!Remember...that transformer on the pole is a step down transformer,if you forget to open the main and backfeed that transformer, you will be stepping up to close to 6700 volts. You could possibly seriously hurt a lineman working on the line.Unlikely, but possible.
  3. So true! The freakshows are out there, but they are a very small percentage of the population. I tend to remember people like the ones that lifted the burning car of off the guy and saved him.
  4. 376 worth avoiding? That's one of my favorite rides.I just took another group of three riders through there today at a pretty good pace. They seemed to like it. To each his own.
  5. Dalzell Rd... https://maps.google.com/maps/ms?msid=215000174116188674323.0004c79581404826cd1b0&msa=0&ll=39.581878,-81.290588&spn=0.141034,0.307961 Compare it to 26,or even that super twisty section of 260 North of 26. Yeah,it's that twisty!
  6. I just read on the Fjr forum that 255 is now open. Two guys were over there Wednesday and it was open from 800 to 7. Btw,376 is a very good ride North out of McConnelsville.
  7. As someone posted 255 is closed.Also,555 is closed 3 miles south of Zanesville and recently chipsealed from Chesterhill to Ringgold.
  8. Lots of good roads down there. If you haven't looked at it already, this thread mentions some of the good ones...http://ohioriders.net/showthread.php?t=94235
  9. Just a thought...are you guys familier with 376 north out of McConnelsville? If you take 669 to Malta, just cross the river, hang a right(south) and pick up 376 in the middle of town. If you like roads like 669,555 and 78,you'll like 376. I'd join you,but I've got a ride going on Sunday.Enjoy the ride.
  10. It's good to hear some feedback about Dalzell Rd.I've posted a few times about how good it is and I was wondering if anyone has given it a try.
  11. I've been on it a few times this year.I think it is Antioch where the good pavement ends,I couldn't remember the name.Sorry, maybe I should have been more clear when I said "just south" of 255.It's what, about 5 miles? I still wouldn't miss that awesome climb from the river on nearly new pavement because of the rough stuff between Antioch and 255. Last year I ran the 260,537,26,800,255,7 loop a lot, since 255 is closed I just substituted 800 for 255. Yes,there's some rough stuff on 800,but the new stuff on the bottom is worth it to me.
  12. 536 has a bunch of new patchs, not good.800 from Fly to just south of 255 was paved late last year...very nice! 260 is still a blast, especially north of 26 to Marr. You better ride 148 while you can, they're in the process of "improving" it,which means they're taking out a few of the good curves. Since you're in the area... most of 339 was paved last year and is a great ride. ...and if you ride 339,when you get to Dexter City take 821 south for about 6 miles and look for Dalzell Rd on the left.It will take you over to 565,turn right and 565 will take you to 260 where you can turn right and head south.Dalzell Rd is a "new to me" road this year and it is quickly becoming one of my favorites.Ten miles of endless hilltop curves on good pavement. Also some good forest sections. When you get to the county line at Lebanon the pavement turns for the worse, but by then you are only one mile from 565. opps...just noticed the date of you're planned ride...this is probably to late.
  13. Agreed...riding 555 at night is no fun!!! Last year I was coming up 555 near Portersville at night and as my lights swept through a field I saw nothing but eyes and shadowy forms...there had to be 10-15 deer in that field. They we're cows,I could see enough to make out a few deer. Not to mention your headlights don't light the curves very well.
  14. Just wondering...how many people posting on this thread served in the military?
  15. Did ODOT edge the sides of the road with gravel?
  16. Josh, Have you ever been on Greasy Ridge road?If not,it kinda parallels 775 from just east of South Point on 243 to about Lecta. If you get a chance,I'd sure like to know the pavement conditions on that road.Quite a few driveways, but fun, fun, fun! Thanks Denny
  17. If you have the time and want to do a little exploring, these roads are worth a look... 775 from Scottown to 790 790 from 775 to 218 218 243 217 from 218 to 7 Greasy Ridge Rd from 243 until it ends. It has been a couple years since I've been down there so I have no idea of pavement conditions, but these are some good roads. Greasy Ridge is one of the curviest county roads I've ever been on.When I was down there the pavement was getting rough, but if it has good pavement it is worth checking out. Anyone from the area know the conditions of these roads? Have a good ride Mary.
  18. The only thing I can't believe is how far a conservative will go to call something socialism...it's beginning to look like McCarthyism.
  19. I just got back from riding 536...it is NOT newly paved, just a bunch of patches. Very disappointing. They are getting ready to pave 78 from Woodsfield to Clarington though.
  20. I just read on another forum that 536 is newly paved, has anyone been over there in the last week or so? I've got to go check this out, probably Sunday before I can get over there. If this is true it is great news.
  21. Fjr1300...you still have plenty of power, better ergos, hardcases for storage and commuting, good handling and an decent long distance tourer. Only real drawback is weight.
  22. That's some good stuff!!!Brings back alot of good memories,we are blessed with some incredible natural beauty(and riding) in the U.S.A. Keep 'em coming,I always love pics of the left coast. The Avenue of the Giants near Eureka CA is pretty amazing. Thanks!
  23. 564 east of Caldwell on 78 is complete except for edge lines. This isn't the twistiest road in S.E.O.,but it has some fun sweepers and enough tight stuff to be interesting.Besides,it T's into 145 and from there it's a short ride to the good stuff...565,260,339,530,Dalzell Rd,537 etc, etc.

    255 Closed

Just a heads up for anyone heading to S.E.O. to ride...255 is closed about 9 miles south of 800 for a slip repair. The sign said it will be closed for 60 days from 7/9. You can get around the closure if you really, really want to ride it,but expect 6 mile of gravel road,2 miles of which is a single lane road.At least that's the detour I found. Also...poor old 255 is beginning to show some wear and tear...she's starting to show some cracking and about 5 bad patch jobs in the eastbound lane near Sardis.
  25. April the 27th 2003 I high sided on 555 about 1 mile north of Portersville. The left side of my helmet was spider webbed and my ballistic nylon jacket was shredded on the left shoulder and upper back.I broke my collarbone, bloodied my spleen and brused my optic nerve. No road rash.Everything was completely healed in about two months.I'm not a doctor, but I don't think it would have been that way without the gear. I always tell these no gear guys what I just wrote and then I tell them that I really don't care what someone else thinks of what I wear when I'm riding. Not all wrecks are catastrophic, most are survivable...been there, done that.
