  1. Here's one possibility that would take you on three really good newly paved roads... heading east on 50...take 356 north to 56,east on 56 1 mile to 691 north to 33.33 west to 78 in Nelsonville.78 east to 685 at Bucktel.685 to 13 north to 78 east at Glouster.78 to 555 north at Ringgold.555 to 669 at Deavertown.669 to McConnelsville. At McConnelsville you can just go north on 60 to Zanesville where you can pick up 93 or 60 going north or head east on the interstate to I-77 if you want to make time. One other option at McConnelsville...take a right at the bridge(south on 60) and go into town and head north on 376.376 will take you back to 60 at Gaysport.376 is a much better ride than 60. 691,685,669 are newly paved and twisty.356,78,555 and 376 are in good shape and twisty. If my directions are alittle confusing, just look at it on google maps.If you like twisty roads,I think you'll enjoy this northerly route through S.E.O. North Star Pizza in Gaysport is a pretty good place to eat. It's right at the intersection of 376 and 60,overlooking the Muskingum river.
  2. Chip-seal is a form of road surfacing that consists of a mixture of tar and small limestone chips that are compacted down.Someone else might be able to give a better definition, but that's close. It's not bad for cars, but there's usually enough loose gravel that makes it less than perfect for motorcycles.
  3. I sure hope that's the case with both 555 and 676.
  4. +1 On Squirrel Nut Zippers...I saw them at a Rhythm and Ribs show(or something like that) in Columbus several years ago...very good!!! A good place to start is with their cd "Hot".
  5. I haven't been on it yet,but I've been hearing the section from south of Ringgold to Chesterhill has been chip-sealed.I might run down there today and check it out.
  6. So,is anybody else STILL without power?Eight days and counting here.
  7. I've got one,I think it's Eagle Rider brand, don't really like it. I think it works better to just soak your t-shirt in water, wring it out a little bit and ride.Works good under a mesh jacket and lasts about an hour. This method was a godsend riding through Nevada in July a few years back.
  8. I am going to do that.I plan on playing the safety angle with trying to maintain state route speeds with bad traction while being pushed by traffic. We really ALL need to write letters concerning chipsealing state routes. It's going to ruin some good roads and under some conditions it's unsafe.
  9. If you have the time ride the San Juan Skyline. If you don't have the time,at least ride The Million Dollar Highway( 550 from Silverton to Ouray) Have fun out there.
  10. I don't know how much of it is chipsealed, but the best part,555 to 792, is pretty much a slip and slide. This really sucks...that section of 676 is 6 or 7 miles of excellent riding! I'm still thankful for some of the good roads that have been paved this year...669,691,550,but this is definitely one for the loss column.
  11. I'll second that!!!I ride it at least once a week...it's that good! 691 from Nelsonville to 56 would be a close second.
  12. As of last night 83 is closed where it T's into 60. 78 has a closure in Glouster due to construction, not related to the storm. This closure has an easy by-pass. I rode 821 from Porn City to Dalezell road, about 5 miles north of Marietta, and it was open and relatively clean. Most roads seem to be open and relatively clean.I rode 250 miles yesterday and didn't encounter any closed roads, even 555 was open coming into Zanesville...they were in the process of removing two large trees just south of the first bridge south of Zanesville. If you post a quick reply ,I might be able to scout specific roads for you...not much else to do when the power is out.
  13. I haven't read this book yet,I don't have a Kindle, but it should be a good one judging by the photos taken by its author,John Flores.Flores is a photogragher for Road Runner magazine and has taken some of the best composed shots I've seen, probably only second to the short lived Outrider Journal magazine photograghy. This should be a good read for anyone wanting to get a little more creative on their motorcycle travel pics. http://www.amazon.com/Ten-Tips-Motorcycle-Travel-ebook/dp/B007ZU6DS6/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1341071255&sr=8-1&keywords=ten+tips+motorcycle+photography
  14. Finally...something we can agree on.Everything you list IS welfare, how many are you claiming...me,none.
  15. Yeah, tax breaks aren't welfare, they create jobs..............in China and Vietnam and Bangladesh and India and... Those bleeding heart dems makes it so hard for a socialist repuke to find a good slave now-a-days.
  16. Just wondering...if you like swing, are you going to see Big Bad Voodoo Daddy in July? They're going to be in Lancaster July 21 and,I believe,Springfield on July 20.I 've got tickets for Lancaster. Also,Ace In The Hole in the Kenny Center on Kenny road might be able to help you with the classic rock stuff.I buy almost all my music there.
  17. So true!Don't you just love the socialist republicans yelling socialist when they have to help someone, but love socialism when they make a dollar off of it...socialist republican C.E.O.'s sending our jobs to socialist China and socialist republicans buy those cheap socialist Chinese products. There's a name for that...Hypocrite.Or republican, they're interchangeable.
  18. A couple more newly paved roads in S.E.O.... SR550 from the junction of SR377 to Barlow. It's not completely finished yet,but well on it's way to being done. The new pavement incudes the fun sweepers just east of 377 as 550 goes up the hill. Kreashbaum Rd in the Hocking Hills between SR678 and Big Pine.Tight and twisty challenging road in the heart of the good stuff in the Hocking Hills. Thanks Mary#17.
  19. We included Kreashbaum in our ride this weekend...thanks for the heads-up on the new pavement. It was very clean,no gravel, just beautiful new pavement.I can't recall Kreashbaum ever being this good...if you like TIGHT,twisty roads be sure to give this road a try on your next trip to the Hocking Hills.Kreashbaum runs from 678 to Big Pine,so there is great riding on either end.
  20. I'm not really seeing an increase in numbers, but I am seeing them at odd times, like in the middle of the afternoon. I am seeing a lot of snakes though. On the bike I'd lot rather deal with snakes than deer...in the fields or woods, just the opposite!
  21. Glad to hear you had a good time in the Hocking Hills area.Sorry you didn't get to ride 685 and some of 691...they're both fun rides. Thanks for the info on Kreashaum Rd,I'll have to hit it the next time I'm down there, which will probably be this weekend.
  22. I don't know which end you start on,but if you're going through Zanesville to McConnelsville or Gaysport,be sure to pick up 376 at Gaysport and take it to McConnelsville. You'll have to go back up river from McConnelsville on 669 to the good stuff at Eaglesport, but 376 is well worth it. Something else you might be interested in if you're going through Zanesville...take 146(Chandlersville Rd) east out of Zanesville to Salt Creek Drive(about 2 miles past Carlwick).Salt Creek is a fun, newly paved connector between 146 and 60 at Duncan Falls.Once in Duncan Falls go across the bridge, hang a left(south),go straight through Philo and take freshly paved River Road to Gaysport where you can cross the bridge and go straight onto 376. Sorry if I'm going on,and on,but I'm having a blast on all this new pavement around here this year. If they only would have keep going on Deitz Lane,we would have a premier connector between Zanesville and Duncan Falls...but they stopped after about two miles.
  23. I'm in...I'lll send a hundred too if he needs to hire a lawyer. How could you NOT beat someone to death that is molesting your daughter? For that matter, anyone's daughter.
  24. It happens, don't be to hard on yourself. About 4 years ago my FJR did a slow roll off of the kick stand when I parked it on a downhill grade to do a quick tire check. It scratched the stator cover and fairing. Now at 93,000 miles those scratches just add character.
