Obviously I intend to use the upgraded head studs to keep the head pulled down and ensure that I don't have this problem again but I also decide to go ahead and add the external wastegate. Now I will be able to tune the truck to the drive pressure and hopefully be able to achieve someone close to a 1:1 ratio of boost to drive pressure. I have been planning on adding this wastegate since I bought the turbo and I need it to keep from overspeeding the turbo with the nitrous. http://i282.photobucket.com/albums/kk251/XChris1632X/Toys/Hannah/IMAG0447.jpg http://i282.photobucket.com/albums/kk251/XChris1632X/Toys/Hannah/IMAG0448.jpg Since I will have the head off and everything disassembled, I decided to upgrade exhaust manifolds. My turbo is a t4 and the stock manifold is a t3 design. Instead of getting a t3 to t4 adapter for the wastegate, I opted for the t4 manifold which should flow a little better up top. This is a one piece stainless steel t4 design http://i282.photobucket.com/albums/kk251/XChris1632X/Toys/Hannah/IMAG0446.jpg I just got all the parts in so I haven't had a chance to go any further. I hope to have the head tore off before the end of the week.

My headgasket is smoked. I can't even pull the truck out of the garage without pissing a quart of oil from the head. With the addition of the new injectors, the headgasket didn't last 1 complete full throttle run. http://i282.photobucket.com/albums/kk251/XChris1632X/Toys/Hannah/IMAG0443.jpg http://i282.photobucket.com/albums/kk251/XChris1632X/Toys/Hannah/IMAG0444.jpg Oil is everywhere. This has lasted longer than I expected it to last. I am still running on stock headbolts that have never even been retorqued. To assure that this never happens again, I made a hefty investment: $1,300 in headstuds. Thats a big coin for a box of nuts and bolts http://i282.photobucket.com/albums/kk251/XChris1632X/Toys/Hannah/IMAG0496-1.jpg http://i282.photobucket.com/albums/kk251/XChris1632X/Toys/Hannah/IMAG0497.jpg There are two types of headstuds that ARP offers for the Cummins engines. There are the standard 420's which commonly hold up to 800hp and are less than $500. The next step up are these ARP 625's. These studs have been proven stronger than the block and have been known to pull the threads from the block before breaking.

I've got a 450 and a 660. I prefer my 450 when I am riding aggressively or hill climbing. When putting around on the trails the 660 is nice. You can ride all day in second gear. On the 450 you are shifting constantly in the woods. For a taller guy you prob would feel better on a raptor. If you can afford it, buy the 700. The fuel injection and power is great. Some people worry about earlier 660s in regards to oiling and crank issues but if you can find one for 1500 who cares. My 01 is perfectly fine. I would be more worried about one idling and running good and that it has decent tires on it.

Anyone have any updates with all of this up and down weather? I just got new registration on the boat and Im ready to take it out finally.
-
I'm getting ready to get this boat ready to put in the water. Which CR pro is going to be my guide for the night and help me learn some good fishin?
-
Try to avoid getting cheaper systems if you can afford it. Many builders grade units are cheaper because they lack certain things. Do your research on the systems they are trying to sell you. For two air handlers and two heat pumps, 8k sounds to me like they are on the cheaper side. My recommendation is rheem. That is what we use exclusively. We choose to because they have far less repair calls than any of the others, as well as a great warranty. Personally, I would also try to avoid companies like atlas butler. Just my opinion but I have legit reasons as to why.

If your furnaces are electric, they are almost positively heat pumps. You can leave Tue old furnaces in there and just replace the coil with a new heat pump but with one from 1980 it is not worth the time and effort.

Jones I replied to your PM. Copperhead I know I had talked to you before, sorry I can't be more help to you guys. If you guys just lived closer to this side of town I would love to come out and help.

I'm just trying to catch some crappie and bass. What kind of bait has worked for you lately?
-
Thanks. I am in plain city so I fish at Alum, shaugnasty, Delaware, deer creek, and anything else on this side of town. I got to ky a couple times a year to cumberland and cave run lake. These are all the places I'm trying to learn better. I have a depth finder but I have yet to figure out how it helps me really fish better other than identifying the depth and bottom a little better.
-
Where did you go? I love catching crappie. Seems the past couple years the rubber baits are coming back around. If you want pike head to canada. I brought shit up that I refused to bring in the canoe. Up there, I literally got tired of fishing after 125 fish in 3 days. Crystal clear water + top water lure + pike = a great vacation. Up there you can toss a lure out and let it sit and still catch them. Especially in Ohio. They are a lot more plentiful in ky and Tenn. Still not easy to catch by any means. I have never caught one but many people in my family has. Mostly by accident. My dad caught one at Alum trolling.
-
Like to know what's working, where people are going, and would like to see what people are catching so far. I love to fish, I have thousands in tackle and equipment, and I have a nice fishing boat. The problem is I suck at fishing. Atleast by suck I mean that I barely catch anything worth talking about. I have caught big fish throughout my past but they are usually about 5 years apart. I really would like to hear any good tips or knowledge to better my results this year. My grandfather loves to fish with me but he gets easily discouraged as well. I'm itching to go out next week and I am hoping for me and him to catch something so that he will want to go more this year. He isn't getting any younger.

rotella t/delvac in non diesel applications?
XChris1632X replied to AWW$HEEET's topic in Tech and Tips
Found the same. Also found a difference between Rotella and motorctaft. Had customers down on power with Rotella after 1k miles. I choose to run Rotella in my dodge though. I wouldn't run it in a ford or Chevy diesel though. -
Many times you can find an aftermarket cover.

The mechanical injection that you speak of on the 12v trucks are p7100 pumps from the factory. This is the p pump. The trucks you are refering to people p pumping is the 98-02. They replace the vp44 injection pump. Like berto said, they are jot bad pumps for what they were designed to do. They start having problems when people install programmers that require the wire to be tapped which increases the pulses. I think the new ford truck is going to be way more problems than the 6.0l This is true but, the dollar amount on each claim is half of what the 6.0l were. I do not tune for them. I just do it for myself. I hate them because I worked on enough that I know they have problems. I think they are great trucks trucks with the exception of the egr. If you delete the egr on them, they don't have most of their problems. To those who don't remove the egr, you have to run the poss out of them. If you run them hard, it helps to not allow everything to clog up.

I second that. If you do seek for more power, just do your research first. And please don't buy shit to be able to smoke people out. If you have that itch to blow smoke I will take you for a few rides in my truck so you can get it out of your system and realize that it is sometimes a pain to drive without smoking out a freeway. Shit is stupid and I wish I could keep my truck from smoking as much. The locals will hate you after they find out they can't even drive behind you.

How much are you looking to spend? For around 15-20k any of the 98-04 dodge or 01-05 Chevy would be good. I ran 400hp on my trans with just a converter and valve body for 5 years. I still don't think for what your looking for an intercooler is needed. I have a guy whose 03 Chevy I tuned with efi live that ran 400hp with stock trans. He just decided he wanted to go bigger so he built the trans and I retuned it with 548hp at the wheels and he only has exhaust and an air intake. All of which stays plenty cool enough to tow. Just please don't buy any bully dog or banks shit.

To get the best deal you have to travel anymore. I fully agree. They are in way better shape and many times way cheaper in the south.

You can buy my truck for the right price. They all have small issues that can be found if you look hard enough. Just like anything else. The best way to give an opinion of what truck is best for you is to first tell us what you intend to do with the truck. How much power are you looking for? I like certain model years of all the makers for different purposes. My next question is what makes you decide those are the mods you want? On any of the trucks you could get I think the intercooler is a waste of money for any purpose with only those mods. Stock intercoolers are suprisingly efficient for a lot of tasks. I dont fully agree. I think it depends on purpose of the truck. Purely towing I think the 6 speeds are great. Trying to have a quick truck with a 6 speed is dumb and doesn't work. They can be a blast to drive though. I love dodge autos. Compared to the others they are the best to work on. All 3 auto makers trans are great for what they were designed for. It is the situations where people start exceeding their limits they were designed for that they struggle. I don't understand how people give them a bad name after doubling the stock power level and then wondering why they don't hold up. They are just fucking expensive to fully build. Any of those trans will work above many peoples needs with just a converter and valve body. Stock for stock the Ford holds up the best. I think the Allison is worse than the dodge as far as holding power and the damage it causes.

Brian how heavy is your limit? I know I talked to some other truck guys around here and they said that you don't love all the weight on the ol' girl.

I got a chance to do some work on the truck tonight. New injectors are in and I am finishing up putting the new intake horn on and buttoning everything else up. http://i282.photobucket.com/albums/kk251/XChris1632X/Toys/Hannah/IMAG0423.jpg I am still waiting on the wastegate before I start spraying. Without it, I know I will be overspeeding the turbo like hell. I broke out the bigger solenoids this year. Here is a sneak peak at some of the system. http://i282.photobucket.com/albums/kk251/XChris1632X/Toys/Hannah/IMAG0425.jpg I have to go through and replace some of the fittings and clean it up a little. The biggest reason that I am changing solenoids is because I am completely changing the system setup. Instead of the traditional 2 stage setup, I am now going to be using a dual stage setup. The big difference is the use of the progressive controller. Instead of focusing on tuning the system with the jets only, I will now rely mostly on the controller to tune the system using both solenoids simultaneously. Hopefully tomorrow I will get to shake the truck down on fuel only.

Well, it's that time of year again to start getting the truck ready for warm weather. I had a summer full of problems with the truck last year and was never even able to get it out of the 13's in the 1/4. I was never even able to spray the truck last year at the track. At the end of the year I made a couple decent truck pulls but at the last pull of the year I found one of its biggest problems. Since early in the year I had noticed bits of oil running down the front of the motor and to the ground. As the summer went on it got worse. The problem was really hard to track down due to the fan making a mess with the oil. After the last truck pull the headgasket completely let go and made a complete mess. This definatly helps explain being down on boost and a lot of power. First off I am making a few changes this year. I have decided to go mechanical injection and convert the truck to p7100 injection pump. I have had a lot of expenses lately so I am still saving for the conversion. Especially because I have decided to go with a 13mm built pump so its going to be expensive. Until I have all of the funds I am going to continue with the current pump and change some things. I will try to max out power with my current charger and nitrous. I may even add another turbo to the setup. First thing to change was the injectors http://i282.photobucket.com/albums/kk251/XChris1632X/Toys/Hannah/IMAG0422.jpg These are my new 6x16 Scheid lightning III's http://i282.photobucket.com/albums/kk251/XChris1632X/Toys/Hannah/IMAG0421.jpg On the left is my old 6x12's from Columbus Diesel and the right is the 6x16's. You can notice the different nozzle designs between the two as well. I know many here don't know the difference so I won't elaborate any further. These exact injectors came from another SO VP44 truck that made 697hp on fuel only. They also made 905hp on a healthy bit of nitrous. These injectors hold the record for highest hp on an SO pump. The old injectors didnt supply enough fuel to use a big shot before it would start to actually slow the truck down. In my plans to add a lot more fuel, I hope to also add a lot more nitrous. http://i282.photobucket.com/albums/kk251/XChris1632X/Toys/Hannah/intakehorn.jpg To help with nitrous placement and the multiple nozzles, I went with a custom intake horn.
