FYI Autozone won't load test motorcycle batteries. They say the equipment they have will overly drain a mc battery because it is designed for cars. I can't comment on the truthfulness of it and YMMV, but that is the statement I have gotten at 2 different stores.

Its not hard or time consuming to rule out the battery vs trying to debug everything else. With electrical problems, its usually the most simple thing that causes the greatest impact (battery, short, blown fuse, etc.). Just because it is 4 months old doesn't mean that its not the problem; in fact it therefore has a shorter track record of being correctly operational. I can tell you that it is NOT your r/r circuit if you are putting in a charged battery since it should have enough juice to start and run a bike for a while (it could be the cause of a dead battery though). If you still want to do it the hard way then here are some things to check: -bank angle sensor -voltage at pink ignition wire (should be ~5v, if not replace with 1k ohm resistor and 5.1v zener diode) -bypass fuel pump relay and see if it primes -bypass starter relay and see if the starter motor turns -pull all fuses that are not necessary for starting and see if it does (helps rule out shorts and lowers demand on battery) -deep discharge recover of battery (can't give you explicit instructions because I don't know brand) -pay hob to fix it

... and? There has literally not been enough time for Obama to have been back in office for and economic impacts to cause any of this. My company just laid off a ton of people, why? They were bought out by a bigger company who decided to do it. AMF, Suzuki, my company, etc... have no link and are just going though their cycles. Hell, GE used to lay off a certain number of workers every year; that doesn't mean they didn't hire them back, it was just apart of their business model. Correlation does not mean causation.

Bad idea to put a cover on something dirty. The act of putting the cover on and taking it off will scratch the dirt/debris into the paint and then the cover will be dirty on the inside as well as the outside. Even if you clean your bike and put a dirty cover on, it can get scratched. If you clean it, put one on, if not then why bother? Its already dirty

If your battery is reading 6v at any time then I am willing to bet your battery is dead. Test it with another 12v battery (car, spare bike, whatever) and if it turns over then you know it is the battery.

This. Add another 0 to your budget and you might find something. I would reccomend getting a camcorder and taking the ir filter off and using a ton of ir led's to light the way.

Have you taken the engine out or is it still in the bike? I can't imagine trying to pull the engine without having already drained the antifreeze.

I couldn't personally recommend that. Doing so would change the grain structure of the metal and you could never guarantee the integrity of it. To bend it you would already need to take everything apart, you might as well just replace it. The alternative would then be trying to slowly bend it back with a press, checking the runout each time. Most people don't have a press, set up blocks and a dial or dial test indicators. It would cost you more in your own time to split the cases again and fix it if there ever was another problem vs. the $100 the part costs. Maybe that is an option for you sparky and I can't see anything ACTUALLY happening, but I personally wouldn't want to have a risk like that. My dad always said "bikes weigh twice as much pushing them to a gas station". I couldn't agree more. I haven't worked on that gen r6 , but I can give you general guidelines. The hardest part is organizing all of the pieces. If you take it slowly and want a fun project, you won't have any problems. Keep referring to the manual like you are, label things and think about what the next step is. I have split 3 cases and have a 4th engine sitting on my kitchen table now, it just keeps getting easier every time.

Is the flavor change fairly random or is it predetermined? Are you planning on updating the app every time you change a machine's flavor? If you have cards with the flavor names on them you could put identifying RFID chips on the back of specific flavors with receivers on the machines and have everything auto-update. A uC, RFID reader, RJ45 plug and tags on the back of the display cards could make it be a completely stand alone system, updating to twitter with no need for customers to download an app (or open it up, keep it running etc) or worry about employees updating anything. Then again I have no idea how your shop is run, what your requirements are or what the app market for something like this is (or the twitter market for that matter). I just get carried away sometimes

Looks awesome, except the front headlight. It seriously ruins everything for me making it look just ok. The only thing I can think of is government regulations because it seems to break all the styling of the bike while forcing lines out of the minimal front fairings and tank. I seriously hope anyone who ones that will fix that and have an awesome looking machine.

1) Yes, roads have more obstacle, that doesn't mean you get to forget about mechanics. It also means you should leave a wider safety margin 2) Scraping hard parts is bad (read: highside bad). If he had better form then he wouldn't be in as dangerous of a situation and he could correct for said dangers (bike would be more vertical for the given speed). 3) Proper form means you are more forward so you end up technically being able to see around the turn more. In practice, with human reaction times, you can sit any damn way you want on a bike and it won't help you to see around a turn better. I guess you will start off being Exarch2, so...

Honestly, that guy doesn't have good form. You are correct though, he is looking through the turn which is very good. He is bolt upright sitting while turning which actually ends up reducing maximum turn speed. The bike can only be leaned so far, changing the center of gravity while being off to the side reduces the lean angle of the bike for a given speed. If he had proper form, the bike would be standing much more vertical. Take a look at this: See on the bike is more upright than the rider? The lean angle of the bike is about the same in both pictures, but I can guarantee you that this rider is going much faster. Watch the sexy girl demonstrating body position, not a bad reference actually.

I did just join. I figure this might be a good way to log my mpg. I never have paid any attention on the bikes, but the cars have always been a scattering of gas station receipts with trip counters written in sharpie. I guess I have to get with the times and modernize a bit

Hitting the brakes in a corner will stand the bike up and make you run wide or push much harder on the handle bars to correct. At most you can ease off the throttle or apply a little trail braking with the rear brake, but I wouldn't recommend it until you get a little more comfortable. Lets try this, what kind of corners are we talking about and what kind of speeds? Are these 90* turns in the city, sharp turns in the country or freeway cloverleafs, or sweeping turns or interchanges?

I have tried the waypoint thing with handheld GPS systems and it just ends up being too much of a pain to map out anything complicated. The phone is really the way to go, you just don't use the stock GPS app. You need to have pre-loaded maps and then there is no need for a data plan or cell service.

A cover is the worst thing you can do to it. The wind will whip it back and forth and eventually scratch the paint. You are planning to ride it more than 600 miles, it would be no different in the bed of a truck (actually a little better since the cab will deflect a lot of debris). I have seen people use this type of wheel chock that is not anchored to anything, but I don't know how much I would personally trust it. Like IP said, renting a trailer isn't that bad. You can arrange a pickup with a uhaul close to the bike and bring it one way back to Ohio for $14.95 (at least that's what it has always cost me). Like redkow said, tie downs are meant to keep the bike from going side to side, so keep the points wide and a little forward. I also like redkow's idea of a quick and dirty wheel chock. I have never hauled a bike in a pickup bed so I can't speak for the effectiveness of it, but I sure like the security of a wheel chock

Anyone else read this dude's post history? On 9/24 he says he will be taking the MSF course before riding. On 10/6 he says he has ridden 1700 miles since June on his 250. Ok, the first post implies he hasn't ridden but now he has been riding for over 2 months before then. Whatever, a little off with times. Here is where it gets interesting: By 10/15 he is giving advice of a blown head gasket or a hole in a piston. He was busy on 11/1. Giving tire recommendations because he has 2800 miles on new Pilot Powers on his Aprilia (2nd bike, so 2800 miles in a maximum of 25 days). Then asks how do you know if a tire is worn AFTER giving his recommendation on a tire, based on knowing his front tire is half worn. If you have ridden as many miles as you say you have (4500 mi) and taken the MSF course like you said you would, this question would never have entered your mind. I don't know if this is a troll account, troll post, or what but you should probably stop giving advice to others if you don't know it yourself. To answer your question; yes, you should lean and you won't fall if you are gripping the tank properly with your legs. Bitani posted some good information, probably over your head, but good information nevertheless.

Too many times have I tried to do the civil thing and go to police about a problem I have had (being run off the road, personal property damaged/destroyed and the like) and every time all I get is "well it would just be a he said, she said situation and nothing will come from it". IP is right, cops are usually useless
