Damn, I would love to have this thing as a project. I should be saving up for a different bike though, so just a free up
-
I actually do. I love seeing how stock hp/tq numbers compare to the numbers claimed by the manufacturer, especially so for a comparison on the exact modded bike's dyno sheets. So bring it!

Giving it more gas when leaned over is not going to give you more traction, in fact you're more likely to spin up the rear. If you blew 2 turns and wrecked I would have to suggest doing some more parking lot drills, taking the turns slower, and taking the MSF course if you haven't already. You were obviously and admittedly riding above your skill level; slow it down some and you will be able to think about what to do when something goes wrong. Soon enough it will be second nature and you will be able to go faster into/through the turns.

I've stripped my fair share of bolts and had to drill them out, but a good 90% of the time I wasn't the one who put them in so I have to agree they have been over tightened. When I work on a bike or car that hasn't been touched in a long time then many are seized and sometimes PB blaster won't cut it. I've even had one crumble in the socket I was using. I didn't even have to drill it out, I just smacked it with a screwdriver and it broke apart. Other bolts, like caliper bolts, you are "supposed" to change every time and can snap regardless. I just snapped a caliper bolt off about 2 weeks ago using a torque wrench.

You can go to Ivan's and get a "smart" tre. There are three(?) main types, but to retain stock gear indicator functionality you will need a microchip and multiple plug in's. The easiest way is to use a couple resistors yourself and make the bike think its in always in 5th (i.e. 5-5-5-5-5-5-5) -edit- I realize what I said might not be clear so here is a more in depth version. The first type is just one resistor and the bike then thinks its always in 5th gear (5-5-5-5-5-5-5 versus 1-n-2-3-4-5-6). The tre's labeled "smart" retain neutral for better idle and cold weather start up (5-n-5-5-5-5-5 versus 1-n-2-3-4-5-6). In both cases you lose gear indicator functionality because the whole point is to make it seem like it is in 5th without the timing retarded. To retain stock gear indicator functionality you need a separate plug in to go inline and fake the signal from the ECU. The new microchip will make the gear indicator act normal even though the ecu is sending 5th gear signals to it all the time. This type still essentially only uses a resistor to trick the ecu into thinking its in 5th all the time (except neutral). How important ($$) is that gear indicator to you? You could spend <$1 and have a working tre without gear indicator (even retaining cold weather starting with a switch like this) or you can spend >$100 to keep it.

What 2talltim linked to is exactly what you want. Curt makes great hitches and wiring stuff. I have had it on 2 cars now and they both seem perfectly solid for the rated load. They test to make sure everything fits right, makes sure you have the correct wiring and ballmount, and they are out of sight mostly (reason for the longer ballmount me thinks). You can pick up a ball from just about anywhere and both the 1 7/8 and 2" work (some smaller trailers only accept the 1 7/8" apparently so that's what I have chosen both times). As far as trailers go, I have no idea; you can see the thread I made on it and see how clueless I really am.

How's $350 for a 2500w continuous, 3250 surge? Or $302 for 3000w continuous and 3500w peak? Due to all the Honda genny commercials I have seen lately I went there first and they were priced in the $2k+ range. I have no idea about generators so maybe your price point is too low?

I'm pretty sure they have been on 600rr.net (browningbuck or something of that nature?) for at least a year or two. I haven't heard anything bad from them. Still debating if I want to spend that much $$ on just the battery, but they don't need charging for a few years apparently.

!! Thanks a lot jbot! I'm not really sure if that is a girl or what in the picture, or what is in your man juice, but I appreciate the extra attention

Nothing beats leather in my mind. I have some hand-me-down leather pants that my dad got from a leather shop up here. They are simply leather pants that the end user can cut to length or hem if necessary. They have saved me once in a crash already and there is only a scuff mark smaller than a can of pop. I would like to get some with some more armor and pucks eventually but for now they are perfect.

Well that's just frustrating. I wish him the best. He wasn't using the event to make a statement. He was making a statement all week, the event just so happened to go on during that week so he attended. See this:

Yup, 360 ==> 360 works no problem. Terrible price, you can get them for ~$100 if you look. Even this one is $180 shipped, half the price (add-ons are similar to bikes where they add nothing).

Speedy, if its a weekend we can both make it than I'm up for carpooling. I'd be up for a shoot as well.

I haven't decided if I am going to watch any races while I am up at Nelson's on the 28th but I might as well head home to make this. How much I will be feeling any sort of spirited run is still up for discussion though. I think the bigger question is why won't you be at Nelson's bad?!

I think I would feel too vulnerable and showy with OWB unless I was already oc'ing. I would certainly get another gun to carry if you'd give me the money for one . I'm just trying to do the best with what I have, which is unfortunately very limited once I throw all my money at motorcycles. With that said, I would ideally like to get a small revolver (like a k-frame) to carry after I get some other guns.

Yup, snow has started accumulating here in University Heights. Casper called this one a while back when it first got warm in January. We got our early play time, now we'll have to wait for the real summer to come again.

*Disclaimer: I don't have a ccw yet so extended use hasn't been tested by me, these are just my thoughts/ramblings on what I have looked into while trying to find something that will fit my eventual edc needs* I don't much like the traditional holsters I have played with. I have heard some (crossbreed etc.) are very comfy, but they also come with a bigger price tag and bulkier overall holster. I think some manufacturers use bigger holsters because it disperses the weight and pressure over a wider area and makes it feel like like less is there. I am a pretty skinny guy though, and almost anything of substance is going to print on me regardless, so I would prefer not to have a holder that wraps around one half of my waist to battle with as well. There is always the smaller cloth type ones, but retention is horrible and they look like the build quality is low. I do like the leather OWB thumb release, however I am with jagr in that I like IWB and would prefer it for edc and pretty much anything that doesn't involve me carrying for a job (how best to carry on a bike is yet to be determined, so I might prefer this style for that specific situation). You demo'd the Raven style to me at the IMS party and I was pretty impressed, enough so that I might try to design one for my sp2022 since there is not enough market there to have a production one. I like the idea of the Vanguard posted earlier (and fills the low production point of the Raven) but it seems like the steel retaining clip would accelerate wear on the slide even more so then traditional holsters mainly due to the steel (unless it was delerin or teflon coated). So at the end of all this, I am pretty much were I started; prefer IWB but haven't found something that meshes with my style of dress, comfort and size.

Not too surprised unfortunately; OSU is not known for its tolerance to the idea of students concealed carrying. I do hope the media doesn't get a hold of this story and put an anti-gun spin on it and that the facts of the event are cleared up

Really? I heard of this a while back, after the dust was settling from Katrina in fact. I believe I saw it on the TV actually and not just a youtube video (think it was the news, which is even weirder for me).

The new dashboard (by new I mean within the last 1.5 years or so) will allow for any USB stick to be used to transfer any data. 360's are cheap now, I'm not sure I even want to sell mine for how little I would get for it

+2 for this

I am speechless and extremely impressed with your generosity jinu. I would like to enter, so here are some of teh funniez, enjoy: By the way, I am already signed up for 2 trackdays (per-registered with Motoseries) and would certainly use it. Also, I hope I win

Now that this thread has reached over 10,000 view I feel the need to post the following:

Thanks guys! the kind words are certainly an encouragement to see it through and possibly do some different things along the way I'm sure you can learn if you are interested enough. Feel free to ask any questions if you're curious. I learned everything through just reading as much as I can (service manuals especially) and simple trial and error. I replaced my first bike's transmission and learned a lot even though it took forever; slow and steady wins the race.

I agree fully on the operation of each (even mentioning it in my original post) however just quoting a post on NASOIC doesn't convince me that it will be destroyed. I am more trying to argue what is contained in post 22 (which is actually agreeing with post 13). Since its a viscous style diff, small lockup will not break it especially without added power from the drive train. I can see how there would be increased wear or energy dissipation through heat but with moderate use in small doses I can't imagine how it would be catastrophic. If you are properly using LFB and the gas there is no need to use it for long periods of time or even through most of a turn (or at all in most cases); even if you watch rally/auto-x drivers with eLSD the engagement time is very short. There have been enough other iterations of awd with VLSD and there has never been more of a discussion about the damage of ebraking on it than on a wrx (especially on NASOIC). I could certainly be wrong but there have been enough people claiming moderate use with no issue that I would need more convincing to switch sides, possibly from a more physics standpoint. Its the same style of thinking that made me put a hitch on my wrx. The US version is not rated for towing but enough people have claimed no catastrophic failures and enough other cars are rated for it (UK version for example).
