  1. Ay cabron - there's only like 800 of 'em in Ohio ! I always include it as part of primary training. Makes it a lot more fun (and useful) to do sim. engine outs, glide to a grass strip and put it on the ground. Seriously, once it dries up, grab your sectional and a 172 (more torque, less pucker factor when two-up), and go hit like ten of 'em. I know more about up by the lake, but I'm guessing Flounder will have good intel on good vs bad down your way. (does your school have some goofy insurance rule against unpaved runways? I've heard some do)
  2. I know a ton of people who both ride and fly, lots of similarities between the two. Definitely make sure you keep your head in the IR game - if you don't have the $$ to take trips, safety pilot time splitting for sammich runs, simulators, shoot a few practice approaches on the way back from a comm. lesson. Also on the other end of the spectrum, go to Waynesville to do some tailwheel and acro training while you're building time for the commercial. I think their Cub is $65/hr or something. Gives you better pilot skillz and tw time could come in handy later if you're looking at getting paid to fly down the road.
  3. Yeah that's the one! I actually just searched for it a couple weeks ago too. Timmy looks like a blast to ride with - I really need to do a TMac someday.
  4. Congrats!! Who was the examiner? 8hrs seems like an awful thorough IR checkride! What/where are you flying?
  5. Dang Gulag security at work! Can't see it. Is that Timmy's vid from last year? Hilarious.
  6. I'd like to try one of these. Trackdays are unfortunately on the back burner for the time being, but it's been awhile since i've done a nice day long ride.
  7. What's more funny is someone went thru the effort of slamming a $2.00 Maitso toy then put pics of it on the interwebz.

    Ride today?

15 degrees here this morning at 615, I opted to cage it... I can see the appeal of the ST/Beemer this time of year to give more rideable days. Overall though I'd rather have the 30 and sun than 45-50 and gray/rainy.
  9. I was going to post something about this too. Drives me nuts on 71. Kind of figured it was some monitoring scheme like that. Like that movie Eagle Eye that was on over the weekend, more data points for Big Brother....
  10. +1 - if the VTR is anything like the VFR, the stock rr is junk. Mine fried the connectors on me about a week after I got it. Replaced it with a Ricks one as well as an upgraded rr wiring harness; no issues in three years. Make sure you clean up the connectors & put some dielectric grease on them. I also got a single LED voltage monitor - changes from red-yellow-green depending on how well it's charging.
  11. Looks like Rollie Free that guy with the Vincent? back in the 40s at Bonneville
  12. Was this one of the protesters from Bob Evans?
  13. Did you just buy a new one? All of a sudden it's gusting to 25 and raining sideways. WTF?
  14. Sorry for your loss! For me 42 is next year; couldn't imagine that right now. My wife's dad died when she was 18 or 19, and she still talks about him all the time. What a great memory, though! I assume that's the same V-Max which you'll be riding til they pry your cold fingers off the grips, no?
  15. Just arrived at work cage-free! There were two other bikes already in the bike parking area when I got in.
  16. That's awesome! There are a few other dads in the local baseball & football leagues who ride, so they factor it into their bizarre kid coolness rating scales. Just don't do anything uber-tard like and drop the bike in the parking lot. I uh, heard that someone did that once...
  17. Yeah yet another good show by $peed as to where their true and only alliegance lies.....they would've cut us off in the middle of the final lap, for a NA$CAR swag sale or rerun of a 1996 race just as easily. Everyone get on their site and send an email thanking them for their choice!! F'tards...
  18. Just locked mine up after looking at that, can't risk drunk impulse buying later tonight... I raced 1/10 & 1/12 scale cars when I was a kid, but I had no idea about the bikes; that looks like a blast. My kid was watching & thought they were full size til he saw a giant leg run across the track .
  19. Sounds like you've got a keeper there!!
  20. No don't think about it that way man! She's going to keep fighting and trying to make you happy as long as she's alive. It's harder on you, but kinder to her, to let her go comfortably with you there. For sure, go over everything with the vet tomorrow to make the best decision, but from experience with this I believe by the time we think they may be ready to go, they've been ready for awhile. Sorry again, I'm sitting here looking at my older grey wondering how long til I have to make that call...
  21. Just like me with picking a first gun! Way too many choices. I'm not very knowledgeable on the cruiser side, but you can probably get a relatively inexpensive Shadow/Magna/Virago 750, ride for awhile & flip it later in the year (or keep it for your wife to ride next year after you get something bigger)
  22. Glad to see you over here crb!
  23. The thing with animals is that they'll fight as hard as possible to survive til the end, and we can't always tell when it's time because we get so attached to them and want to put off the inevitable. Without being there, I'm leaning toward it being time if she's just miserable and can't get comfortable. Very sorry to hear about this, it sucks!!
  24. Gratz for getting one past the goalie! Start practicing sleep deprivation training now so you're used to it down the road...
  25. That really sucks! Hope it works out for you. I'm home clearing out my basement today; sump pump got overwhelmed for awhile yesterday & got 1-2" of water, even that 'minor' amount is a PITA, let alone the real foot+ deep flooding alot of folks are getting.
