  1. Subscribed. My Dad was quite the blacksmith, knifesmith, leathersmith, gunsmith, and scrimshaw artist back when he was alive. I watched him many a time when I was a kid/teen and do remember him using stainless tool steel ( not sure of the grade, but that would vary with blade thickness anyway - along with your heat treating and tempering ) in an old handcrank wood forge in his workshop. He'd make handles from antler hilt, or hardwood, and would tool/stitch/stain the leather sheathes, everything. Wish I'd have paid more attention to his hobbies when I was young, he had talent
  2. I have plenty of extra bed cleats that I could mod into some sort of universal anchors. I'll keep shopping, and thanks for the link
  3. We have a couple cramp busters. One solid plastic CrampBuster brand, and the other straps onto the grip. The one that straps around the grip pinched my throttle tube and wouldn't let it spring back closed, so I wont let her use that one anyway
  4. Awesome guys, thanks for the help with link sharing. I'm not on Twitter or FB, so I appreciate it.
  5. He's all setup folks -- contribute what you can PLEASE https://www.gofundme.com/9xrvf6t9
  6. Damnit Jim, I just placed an order with Etrailer last week for a bunch of Cargobuckle straps -- didn't even consider they may carry the bike axle locks. Was hoping someone had personal experience with a few options that could give me some good insight, but I'll probably just nab something and give it the good old trial and error
  7. I've never owned a rack/chock/lock type device before, but I have an old '99 Diamondback X6 that I plan to beat on some more this year and would need to haul the bike now and then to the good dirt trails. I want a SECURE method to lock the bike into the bed. I drive a 2nd gen Tacoma with the bedrail system ( similar to what several other mfg's offer on their trucks ), and my first choice would be to use something that utilizes that rail instead of drilling the bed. I considered just laying the bike on it's side and running a stout cable lock through the bike's frame and bed D-rings, but I'd much rather something more secure so the bike isn't free to move around. For simplicities sake, a locking wheel chock version would be nice.....but I think the front axle chock locks would be more secure since the axles are quick release, making the bike less available to thieves by just releasing the front wheel. It's not that I like/work in a high crime area, just prefer to be as theft deterrent as possible. What do you guys use?
  8. If it's just width that's keeping you out of these boots, seek out an asian foot binder - she'll have you down to a size 6 in no time
  9. Wife just corrected me. We regeared her ninja 250, so the 300 is still stock geared. Maybe I had it in my head that we could drop the final drive ratio a bit on her 300? Either way, it's a better/more capable bike than the 2nd gen 250 was for her.
  10. Those 600 shadows are damn near flatout at interstate speeds. Poor bike LOL. She loves her little 300, and Brock found her some more HP to play with. It runs tiptop, but not much of a hypermiler. She'll eventually find a bigger upgrade someday that fits her
  11. We dropped a few teeth out of the rear sprocket and it helped pull the revs down a bit, but it can pop 100+ on MidO's backstraight. Think she's around 8-9k at 80, but to do that for hundreds of miles isn't the nicest way to treat that little I-2
  12. I'd ride there and back on my GT, but I wont make the wife suffer through that long of a trip on her 300. Maybe once she gets some touring friendly equip for it
  13. I'm doing the same thing. Gives me plenty of time to ready the bikes, truck, and trailer
  14. Those are sweet, and at an amazing price. Too bad they're not 12's. I'd have wear those open toe style. GLWS

I dont have to buy an old fart while you're hanging around here for free all day. If you're going to plagiarize me, at least check for grammar.

Nooooo, not at all. Threatening a mod would get me banned Not to mention hurting an elder wouldn't make me look like much of a man
  18. Hell yeah, the more the merrier. LYT was getting old

You're broad enough to back it up. But Jim looks like he'd bust a femur if he fell down on a pillow
  20. I've cranked my preload down on the GTs shock pretty good, still have some in reserve in case it's not enough once the saddles are loaded. Seems good though, doesn't feel oversprung or pogo'ee at all right now
  21. Yeah, that's the smart way to ride. Dig in there until you find the edge of your comfort zone, then back it off some. I drag hardparts because I'm fat and squish her to the ground, not because I'm a talented rider
  22. I do like to try new crafty brews though, so that's high on my list along with decent food offerings at exceptionally affordable rates
