  1. Consumer Cellular works good for me. You can get the voice plan separate from the data package and tailor the plan you want without a contract. I bought a good compatible cell phone from amazon, got the SIM card from Target bringing my own phone as they call it. $20 for 1,000 minutes, $30 for 3 GB data or mix and match what you need. Wifi available at work and home so it doesn't cut into my plan. Second line for $10 to share the plan with my wife. Calls between phones on the plan are free. Coverage is good and works where I need it to. Think it runs on the ATT network which has improved quite a bit. Main thing is get the plan and service (whoever) that works good for you and that you can afford. Also, 100% US based tech support which was great when I was setting up service.
  2. Ouch! Bad face plant there and so fast. Surgery? Heal up Craig. How bad is the bike? Hope you got some laps in before that happened.
  3. Welcome to the forum. Same neck of the woods as you. There are many frequent posted rides on this forum so visit often. Lots of Northeasters on the forum too.
  4. I caught more ribbing since I was the only sport bike from my own group, but all in good fun. Didn't care. I could out run them all anyway. So many bikes and more came while we were there. Everywhere we went there were lots of bikes. Everyone seemed really friendly and we met several Harley riders that were friendly. Waved at lots of them but quite honestly, the wave was too often to catch everyone. Had a great time and the roads were what we went out for. So many good roads there to ride.
  5. Just got back from spending all of last week in Sturgis, SD and surrounding area riding the roads and twisties out there. Quite epic roads and for me the trip of a lifetime. Went with a friend from work and some of his friends. Seven of us total. Met up with 2 more guys while there for 2 of the days. Purposely went the week before the Sturgis Rally to beat the traffic and the price increases. Rode 1,000 miles of roads there in 5 days time. Had a blast doing some canyon carving and sight seeing too. Custer State Park and Mount Rushmore Roads were awesome. Went to Devils Tower one day and down through Spearfish Canyon. Deadwood was a neat place as well as Hill City and Custer. Needles Highway and Iron Mountain Road were epic. Traffic started getting heavy the last few days there. Overall, it was a great trip and would do it again in the future sometime. I would highly recommend it but not during the rally week.
  6. SALT FLATS LEGEND SAM WHEELER DIES IN CRASH AT BONNEVILLE Racing community mourns loss of motorcycle land-speed giant. http://www.motoamerica.com/salt-flats-legend-sam-wheeler-dies-in-crash-at-bonneville
  7. Thought they had a half way decent product although it was way over priced. That kind of sucks but the idea was good.
  8. A common sense law? Would be nice.
  9. Sorry to hear this. This happened less than a mile from my house. I have seen Tom before at school functions but didn't know him personally. They have set up a fund me page on FB for the family. RIP. https://www.gofundme.com/2fzewvg
  10. You will have so much fun doing a track day. It is very addictive. Go with the expectation of learning and riding within your comfort zone while learning. Take all the constructive criticism you can. You will be tired when you get done so drink plenty of fluids during the day. Check with your insurance company about your bike policy. Mine let me be covered as long as it was an instructor lead class and I wasn't racing. Had to take off the mirrors and tape off the lights and reflectors and speedometer. Didn't take mine at Mid-Ohio so check with them and others about specifics. If you are trailering there, you can take all the extras you will need like pop up tent, gas, chair and cooler, etc. I would say your current gear would be good. It's preferred that you use a one piece suit anyway. Your helmet should be 5 years or newer. They might check the manufacture date. Go to the riders meeting and they get you started. Lots of good track guys here that can and will give you good advice. Have Fun!!! You will be fast anyway.
  11. I love my cortech magnetic tank bag and recommend it. Easy to move aside while filling up the tank and it's pretty good tank bag overall. I have an Oxford tail bag I use all the time that is expandable. Also have some new pannier side bags I have never used before.
  12. Congrats Derek, sexy looking bike!
  13. Nice meeting you at the Epic Ride. Have a good one!
  14. Does this make you want a different kind of bike with those distances?
  15. Any recommendations on Windows DVD software since Microsoft wants to charge $15 for the Windows DVD Player download? I see lots of free ones but some of them quite frankly suck.
  16. People are stupid...more proof right there.
  17. Right place at the right time...timing is everything. Wow, that is something.
  18. At least their FB page recently posted said they won't allow motorcycles right now due to the safety of the track. Oddly enough, I rode by there tonight and stopped at the fence to take a look and struck up a conversation with a guy that had been there working on the water system. He has been working with the new owner on things. He told me the OEPA stopped all demo work due to the paint and materials being hauled away. They were concerned with lead, etc. Most of the demo work is already completed. I understand the bridge needs to come out yet. Local zoning has rezoned it for Commercial II use now and things are progressing very slowly. The new owner has ambitions to bring the track standards up for Vintage F-1 car racing which means lots of track run off areas have to be created with the correct banking, etc. They have already been to the site and given the new owner the standards required. The old tires are probably going to be ground and used on site in some way but not in the new payment. Had a really nice chat with the man. Wished I could have stayed longer and it was getting late. I understand that a total transfer of the property has not officially happened just yet...didn't really understand that part. Details over the pricing. Hope I didn't gush too many details for the internet. Tried to keep it concise. Everyone seems to want this to happen. This is the most this place has been turned on its head in 40 years. The new owner is a car enthusiast for sure with Ferrari's. The barn silo will stay as it could be used for marketing with painting it as an energy drink of something creative. A car club will race there in about 10 days so they have to get it somewhat ready for that. Thought I'd share...whatever its worth. Come on OEPA!!!
  19. Welcome fellow Ravennan. Lots of rides posted up and good people here. Check back often.
  20. Home safe but had to deal with the wife's car stuck on a tree stump at the local campground when I got home. Nothing a chainsaw and a hydraulic jack couldn't handle. Overall, 400 miles and an Epic Ride for sure. Nice meeting new faces and many thanks to IP for hauling my slow butt down and back and for Shoop for leading our group. Thanks Derek for organizing this and the others that helped with the food and donation. Starting to get a little stiff and tied. That was my longest day ride for sure.
