  1. You are correct, the guy did some great mods to the bike including flaring out the gas tank, really cool. He has a couple bikes and works at JBA Customs, very creative with bikes.
  2. February and March meat & greets were held in Florida!
  3. Has a date been decided on for the Meat & Greet? I heard TimTheAzn is bringing the strippers.
  4. Welcome to the group! Lot's or people of all ages on the OR who love to ride motorcycles.
  5. If the weather cooperates I'll ride my Kaw Ninja 1000 to the Meat & Greet and you are welcome to test ride the bike. I would also consider the Yam FZ-10, the cross-plane engine is extremely smooth and along with TC and ABS it has cruise control.
  6. I am going to COTA again and know a few on the OR will be there this year. I thought we could get together in Austin one night and maybe at the track, how about meeting Friday night someplace?
  7. Ok, I'll get the ball rolling on a date..... Saturday April 14.

  11. Man, that's some serious technology you have going on!
  12. I have found the majority in the medical community will not support riding a motorcycle (Excluding Ninja Doc) and I get it, they are trying to save lives while riding a bike is a dangerous endeavor. When I went through physical therapy I asked my therapist, "since I am cleared to drive a car, when do you think I can ride a motorcycle?" and she said "NEVER!" After seeing the results of motorcycle accidents medical personnel are reluctant to promote riding. In October I rode the bicycle and motorcycle for the first time since the heart attack. I told the doctor, who I respect immensely, I had been riding and that I have to live life. The doctor told me to limit my bicycle rides, so I keep my heart rate under 140 bpm and less than 25 miles.
  13. I recently purchased a 2017 Yamaha FZ10 and have ridden in it approximately 1400 miles in the last 10 days. I rode in South Florida on interstates and back roads. Since the terrain is relatively flat there are very little twisty roads or sweepers to challenge the handling of bikes. In the last ten years I have owned a 2005 Yamaha FZ1 (Gen 1), 2006 Yamaha FZ1, 2008 Yamaha FZ1, 2014 Kawasaki Ninja 1000 and now the 2017 Yamaha FZ10. Mods: MRA Racing Screen Windscreen, yoshimura fender eliminator, sliders and monkey grips. The ergonomics of the FZ10 are more compact than the FZ1 and very similar to the Kaw Ninja 1000. I like being more compact with these types of bikes. You sit more into the bike. The power of the FZ10 seems to have more torque that the FZ1, probably due to the crossplane engine technology. One very big difference of the FZ10 is the smoothness of the engine and the ride. There is very little vibration of the handlebars and the seat. It is very stark difference compared to the other bikes. It may be the most significant advantages of the FZ10 compared to the other bikes. Handling of the FZ10 seems much better than the FZ1, the balance on corners is very good. But, as I said Florida is not a true test of bike handling. The electronics of the FZ10 include ABS and traction control which is very similar to the Kawi Ninja 1000 that has the same goodies. The FZ10 has cruise control and it is amazing. It is very accurate and is sweet to have on long rides, allowing me to travel farter between stops. The FZ10 is a naked bike compared to the other bikes, so after being beaten up by the wind in my chest I had to install a short windshield which made a considerable difference. The gas tank on the FZ10 is only four gallons versus 4.4 gallons for the FZ1. Bigger is better, I like having the extra fuel capacity of the FZ1. One issue I have with the FZ10 is the colors available in the USA. The color choices are shiny gray or flat gray. If you don’t like gray you are out of luck. The other bikes compared have colors I like, metallic red, candy Kawasaki green, which I really like. They do offer a blue FZ10 in Europe I really like and hope they bring it stateside in the next couple years. In conclusion, comparing the FZ10 and the Ninja 1000 is a true test because both have electronics and I have to take the FZ10 for the smoothness of the bike. As I stated earlier, this puts the FZ10 ahead of the rest of the bikes because it is so significant.
  14. I bought (1) track day, like the rest of you I know this will be better than crack and will have to feed the addiction.
  15. Thankful to be alive to have a great family and friends....... along with the ability to ride again!
  16. I have confession to make. Against doctors orders I rode the motorcycle twice last weekend and again today. My defense is the weather was so nice I had to ride, it is so great to ride again.

    Silly riding.

You forgot # 11 about now being a track day snob!
  18. Derek, you brought out one of the major reasons why I ride..... when you are riding into a curve trying to hit the apex, pushing the edge of speeds you are capable riding or just avoiding people in cars, these factors force you to focus like a laser on riding and all of life problems move aside. This is helpful in reducing the stress we encounter in our normal daily lives.
  19. Interesting you bring this topic up at this time. A little history, I have been riding on the street since I was 17 and I will be 60 this week. Always had street bikes and I also rode dirt for a time. When my kids were little the bike collected dust, I maybe rode 1000 miles a year. Once my last kid said he wasn't going to play college sports (2007) I bought a new bike because I always wanted to ride more miles. New bikes are so much better than 80's bikes, safer with better brakes and handling, ABS along with TC. Here is my dilemma Doc, after having a bad heart attack (37 minutes without a pulse and 8 days in a coma plus artic/sun protocol) I have had a miraculous recovery. According to every medical doctor or nurse I encountered I am a very lucky man. In less than three months I went back to work (flew to Mexico) last week. My cardiologist told me I would not be allowed to ride a motorcycle for 6 months to a year. I have gone through physical, speech and occupational therapies and brought up riding a motorcycle with docs and therapist and not one would even consider allowing me to ride. What I have found is the medical community encounter so many negative results of riding, I do not believe anyone will say "go ride." I am back to lifting weights, elliptical and walking 5 miles almost everyday. I talked to my wife and I will consider riding in December because the medical field wants reduce health risk and this is a very risky hobby. I understand their position, but most doctors, unlike you Ninja Doc, can not understand our love of riding. This sport is in your blood or it isn't.
  20. I have more questions than answers on the NFL knee issue. I know the NFL players have the right to kneel during the national anthem, for that matter they can stand on their heads. The questions I have is if the time when the national anthem is played before the game is that considered "on the clock"? If someone is at work companies have certain types of dress and conduct codes to adhere to during working hours. Standing versus sitting, kneeling or laying down are in the realm of codes a company may require. Before and after work hours they can carry pickets outside the stadium, kneel and pretty much do what they want. The NBA nippid this in the bud a number of years ago, player are required to stand for the national anthem.
  21. Thanks for the update Jerry, you are in my prayers, wishing you good vibes!
