  1. A bit overzealous, but not nearly as bad as the Sylvania Township cop that shot the guy right off his bike at a stop here several years ago.
  2. Only thing I ever use the Sena for is talking to my wife, and I don't even like to do that. My helmet speakers plug right into my sat radio...no f-ing batteries to have to charge or die after 10+ hrs of riding. Plus, my Sena sucks in the rain.
  3. I walked past my salty bike in the garage a half dozen times today. I have an early trip tomorrow and I'd like to take it to work at o-dark thirty, but I'll have to judge the safety of that when I get up at 4. It's going to dip into sub-freezing temps tonight. I'm hoping the strong wind is going to dry out the roads. We'll see.
  4. First night home. She can sleep in any position. Took over my couch.
  5. Airport security, or "security" anywhere for that matter, is mostly an illusion. Even someone like me, with average intelligence and a little inside information, can find a way around it pretty easily, provided you're willing to make sacrifices. I've seen enough to know that I'm the only one I can count on to keep myself and my family safe.
  6. This used to be my spot on the couch.
  7. Rode it in the dark fog for a training event this morning, then in the rain home this afternoon.
  8. I have a Carbtune and like it fine, but I still use my homemade unit more. Mine has much better fidelity.
  9. Yep, happens to me at two different locations on my regular commute, despite reporting the problem.
  10. Wish I could join you guys, but I have to work.
  11. I shot an XDm 9mm 5.25 for a day a couple years ago. Man that was a nice shooting gun. GLWTS.
  12. New CEO this year, so work got kinda crazy and only managed to ride 22k miles. Terrible election year cost me at least one friend and I almost never talk politics, but I don't tolerate douchebaggery either. Otherwise, it was a pretty average year.
  13. My kind of trip, have a great time!
  14. My wife and I went to look at dual sport bikes at Iron Pony the week before Christmas. I sat on three and decided to wait and do a little more research. On the way home, my wife wanted to stop and "look at" a Great Dane puppy. Yea, we went home with it and now I really have to wait for another bike. All of our previous dogs were rescued, I had no idea actually buying a dog would cost so much, good grief. I told her Merry Christmas, happy anniversary and happy birthday for the next few years. I did sit down last night and order some AR parts though.
  15. I'm not feelin it much, but it was a pretty rough year.
  16. If it locked up while he was riding it, I'd definitely be looking for a used replacement motor.
  17. You guys front load this in January and I might make it. Otherwise, I have a Europe and Africa trip later in the month.
  18. The aviation industry has been using "ice pellet" for some time now. The U.S. has been moving more toward a global aviation standard through much of my career, but more quickly the last 10 years. My theory is that ice pellet is better understood internationally than the term sleet. Much like the switch to "line up and wait" from "position and hold" when taking the runway.
  19. I agree, unless they're going to completely grind the cracks out. If there's oil soaked into the fiberglass, it all has to go until you get to clean material, otherwise the resin won't bond to it.
  20. That should make a fine commuter bike.
  21. DT1 is a neat bike and very similar to the CT3 I'm currently building.
  22. I rode 50's 70's and 100cc trail bikes as a kid, but this was my first street legal bike: Actually, this is an '83. My first was an '82, but they're the same. The '82 I got right out of college, back when I had a new wife and son, a mountain of debt and almost no disposable income. I ended up selling it to put a new roof on the house. Years later (more than I care to admit), I started feeling nostalgic and purchased this one on eBay from a guy down in Tennessee. It hadn't been plated in a long time and was missing the turn signals, mirrors and working charging system. I have completely disassembled it, replaced every rubber part and gasket, repaired the electrical system, replaced half of the transmission gears and shafts and generally made it road worthy.
  23. Looks like it's in pretty good shape otherwise. My guess is with a little patience you could find a good used motor on eBay. For an all-in investment of maybe $800, you'd have a pretty good bike. Sure looks worth more than that to me, not that I really know anything. I tend to get too emotionally involved in my project bikes and never seem to make a profit, but I'm a perfectionist.
  24. A few years ago we got snow so frequently that the roads didn't completely clear for 5 weeks in my neighborhood, the longest period of time I've ever gone without riding. Towards the end, I just couldn't take it and pulled my old XL250R out of the shed, put on my snow suit and fired it up. I only rode around the neighborhood for a half hour, slipping and sliding all over the place, but it was a blast so I started looking into studs. I quickly decided that a proper set up (not just running some sheet metal screws in my tires) was more than I wanted to spend. Plus, the salty slush accelerated the rust on my poor 30 year old bike. I am am curious to see what you're using.
