B-Mac, Monday might be a wash-out for Wayne if the forecast is correct, but we'll see. My TR8/T63 pair came in this week, so I'm hoping to get Jeff's help shoeing them on by then in any case. I could also be free Sunday for another location if you're itching to get some dirt then.

I am out for Sunday. Swing is doing a upper TOT on Sunday, that might help you scrub in the new tires. As Monday draws near the weather might change for the better. We can always do another trail ride some time. I will check back here on Sunday. Ride Safe. B.

  2. If you are camping at Begley's or Willams Campgrounds You should not have any problems. As for the Trail Head Parking areas. They are very nice parking sites but I can't comment on security or any problem with vandals. To me they look like great opportunities for smash and grab punk ass shit heads that roam this area daily. Check with the Dirty Talk Gentlemen. They are very helpful and knowledgeable about the Wayne area.

B-Mac I (Scott/Rudderfeet) had the pleasure to ride with you a couple weeks back but it wasn't until I watch a few of your videos did I realize you're a frigging beast with that Strom!

Except now I've got s complaint to register. Your videos have given me such a hard on for Wayne's trails - I've never been - that I can't wait to take my DR out there with a fresh set of knobbies coming Wednesday. Maybe I could beg you into schooling me in the ways of Wayne someday, perhaps even joined by Craig, Jeff and Steve?

I am good for Monday gents. Derek and Joe may join in if that's OK. They may be first timers also we can take it easy and have a safe fun ride. Let me know what's good for you and Scott.

  4. Joe and Derek, I think  Scott (SMccrory) and Jeff both on DR650 want to ride Wayne on Monday. We have not set a time or Start place yet but keep an Eye out for an update. We can start at Bagley campground and do camp ohio first to get warmed up and comfortable and jump on the Maine and head to dorr run. Brian. Early Monday or after 1pm..

Saturday it is!  I'll see ya at Otsego in that little gravel lot at the intersection of 83 and 93 about 10:15-10:30.

Jacob, Is your route going to continue south on 83 to 78. I may try to join in on the fun at New Concord fuel mart 83/22 if your group is not full. Too much dirt and gravel the last two weeks. I need a dose of carbon monoxide and asphalt fumes. No wait.

I took a ride this morning but mostly pavement though I did find one very large farm field with nothing planted and all dirt so I cruised through it.

    Brian,

I did get out on the trail solo this Sunday morning.  The trails weren't too crowded and I found them technical enough to be challenging and not overwhelming until...

Got off on some small side-trail and it had some mudholes.  Got through the first one but dropped the KLR on the second.  After getting it restarted I made the mistake of continuing on that path and it was terrifying--a very technical trail with many mudholes and extremely steep terrain.  Definitely not meant for a big bike.  Eventually found my way out but not before tweaking my back.  Headed home.

Regardless, would like to get out with you guys sometime.  Definitely not in the mood to go back solo and uninformed about the trails.  That was my mistake to not study the maps carefully before setting out.

Bike took a little beating but seems to have come out OK minus one rear view mirror.

Derek, I am glad you were able to make it out. As you can see once you turn off the published trail you never know what to except and can find yourself in a difficult situation. Nice bike by the way. I hope we can get you down to the Wayne again with a small group. Keep an eye out for a up coming ride. Also on ADV Rider.

  8. Scott, I would be happy to help in any way I can. Are you getting new Tires this Wednesday and want to plan a ride soon or will you have them mounted and ready to ride this Wednesday? Looks like Wednesday will be sunny and 78deg. I have a Golf date planned with my wife that day but let me know what works for you. I may be able to get a rain check.  Also I would be happy to help host a Swingset Halloween Wayne Ride here at the house like we did when I first moved here in 2011.

Thanks for posting the nice video!  I'm new-ish with a KLR-650 and have been looking for some trails to ride that aren't too narrow.

Would love to ride with you sometime.

Going to head down and try out the trails Sunday morning, 6/26.

I recommend weekday's for motorcycling on the trail system because of the danger with two way traffic and the amount of atv's on the trail. With that being said, If you must ride on the weekend. Early morning or after 5pm on Sunday is your safest time (IMHO). We just finished a ride on Wednesday the 22nd. A KLR650 and a XL650R chasing a DL1000 V-Strom on the Wayne trail and a few Forrest service roads.

  11. If my planned  7hr. Adventure ride cancels.  I will shoot out on the Zeeee  to New Concord and grab a  cup of excellent coffee at  Crumb and Cup Alley Cafe " 68 W Main St, New Concord, OH 43762" and try to meet up with you at 10:30.

  12. Most are all big bike friendly 650-1200 if it's dry condition and with above average off road skill set. I normally only ride on dry weekdays due to the ATV traffic and remember it's a two way trail. This last Sunday was after 2pm so it was not to busy. A good way to start out (IMHO) Example: Start at Begley's campground on the main corridor and ride to the first intersection or hard surface road. turn around and ride back to the start. turn around ride again to the second intersection or road and ride back the last section and continue. This way you wont get to far into the system and stress about going back. Stay on the Main Corridor and then if you want to explore more difficult routes look for the heliports on the trail and ride to them. just in case you need help. It takes about 3-4 dry day's after rain to dry out. Have fun. Stay off long ridge "single track"

  13. On my 2014 DL1000 I am on my 3rd rear and 2nd front Mitas E07 Dakar 50/50 Tires. They have become my standard tire I will be running with the amount of off road, gravel and minimum asphalt that I am running. I use to run Metzlar Tourance 85/15 on my 04 DL1000 but my off road was gravel or the occasional two track to get to a site. The Mitas E07's are very stable and predictable on the different gravel depth's that we have here in southern Ohio. They slide and recover when you explore your limits, Very forgiving. I pushed them very hard on asphalt down at the gap last month, Again very predictable. They "drop in" and require little force to maintain corner lines and are friendly when mid corner changes are required.I road the dragon in the early morning wet rain and was enjoying every mile of it. To me that is the best way to start your day ride down at the gap.The tires are a little noisy compared to a full street tire. I don't track tire mileage or motorcycle fuel mileage so I cant help you with that. Also the Darker model have a very stiff sidewall that I like for off road riding with cast wheels and low tire pressures. You need to come down here the the Hocking Hills and I will take you on a "Tour-De-Hock" Adv ride.

V Stroms do everything well. Brian

  14. Had a fun ride with two moto brothers from the great Canadian north down here riding the WNF area on GS1200. They camped overnight at Begley's Campground and we all three met up with a Ohio group and started a Adventure Ride. When the Ohio group broke off for lunch we continued on and before we went two miles the GS'ers wanted to "hit some trails" So we jumped on WNF Purdum trail to Dorr run loop and finished on the main over to camp Ohio trail then went on gravel, dirt, asphalt stuff till 3:30 pm back at the camp. We were finished, exhausted. They were great people to ride with. Another crap Video, No Music, 131.5Mi. 32.6 avg.speed 4:01moving time. 5:19 TT

  16. Jim, Sorry the weather is not going to be dry for your ride but I will be out on the back roads power sliding the wet gravel with no dust lofting the front wheel over the water puddles and catching air on the chip & seal back roads thinking about you. :) I hope someday  you get an adv bike to expand the enjoyment of our sport. We are not getting younger. Stay dry my friend. Hope to ride the  zzzzz's with you soon.
