  1. News.

The two motorcycles, a 2004 Yamaha YZF-R6, driven by Matthew A. Eckerman, 29, of Pickerington, and a 2015 Kawasaki Vulcan, driven by Benjamin P. Maclam, 35, of Pickerington, were in the left lane traveling westbound, while the Nissan driven by Don L. Eddleblute, 73, of Lancaster, was in the right lane of the highway.

Eckerman was traveling behind Maclam when he failed to maintain an assured clear distance ahead and struck the rear of Maclam’s Kawasaki.

Both motorcycle operators were ejected and slid off the left side of the roadway. However, the Kawasaki continued traveling westbound without its operator and hit the left side of Eddleblute’s Nissan.

The Kawasaki came to rest on the right side of the roadway while the Yamaha came to rest in the median of the highway.

Eckerman received incapacitating injuries and was transported by Hocking County EMS to Hocking Valley Community Hospital. He was later transported by Life Ambulance to Grant Medical Center in Columbus.

Maclam also received incapacitating injuries in the crash and was flown by Air Evac to OSU Medical Center in Columbus.

  2. +1 for the set up at the camping and it was nice meeting you two gents, Shawn and Tim. Dan is a go anywhere rider and has the skill set to do it. Great time. Just as I got home the wife was pulling out on her Spyder and we road to Lancaster for chow. I thing I passed Shawn on 33N , truck with quad in bed.

  3. Had two days of great riding with Dan and the CSC machine down in the hock. Day one, 5 Bikes and 180 miles of dirt, gravel and twisted township tarmac. Day two escorted Dan back north to New Concord on gravel and sent him home on his way 170miles.

Day One: Wayne NF Campground Dan getting ready for a long day.

  4. Great Day for a ride. Route: 664S-374S-56E-685N-13N-329S-550N-377N-78W-216N-93S

Winter Pace, No Deer!  A few spots of gravel spills in corners and farm mud at intersections.

78 is nice with the new asphalt. Spooned on a fresh Michelin PR 4 GT on the rear the other night along with a set of EBC HH rear brake pads. All is well.

  5. I decided to abort my adventure early due to rapidly changing weather condition on my planned route. I had a 4 day window initially when I started but cold mornings (27deg) and short day light caused a drag on my trip. I broke off at Lewisburg/Marlington, WV. at the 219/39E intersection. I road 219N (One of the great routes in WV.) Will try again when the window opens again. B.

  6. Leaving in the morning for Winchester, VA. I will start Sunday south bound on the Trans Eastern Trail and Blue Ridge Trail with the V-Strom. Not sure how far south I will go before I go west and then back to Ohio. May have to hold up or re-route around weather mid week. Will try to report and photo. See Ya. B.

  7. I was leading this exercise and I can say that we had just slowed our pace down to 60 and below about 8 miles before. I was nursing the Z to the gas station with a flickering warning light. The problem was that the gravel was sooooo fine and the sun was behind us. This condition visually washed out any color contrast between gravel and asphalt. I was in 6th gear just off idle slight lean angle and I hit it. My back started to slide and I throttled out "a-lay" dirt bike power slide. Keep in mind 6th gear 3K rpm not too much torque with the inline 4. but enough to keep from hi-siding. I braked and watched in my mirror as Jacob slid out. We had been conservative all day with corner speeds, Adjusting lines early, mid and late corner for leaves, road kill, gravel. Typical autumn riding conditions. Can't react to what you can't see. Shit happens. If I had more fuel on board we would both be in a bad place right now. Clean corner, engine wound-up, and power on thru the corner.  "Bad things man..."   Jacob can now get a Hypermotard for 2016. See thing happen for a reason. Besides he is to young for a FJR.

  8. No problem, it was just bug juice. Garmin said we traveled 180 miles and somewhere hit 107 ts. Dont know how that could have happened. Good luck on your project. I went back to our last stop and got my bag this am. All is well.

  10. If you want a wing man tomorrow I would be happy to meet you at 374 or the sunoco gas station just north at 33 and clear creek rd./116.

There are some fun skinny, high center, off camber, twisted shit township roads that you can catch air on before and around 374 that are fun. but in most cases they are not the wide sweeper stuff that most O.R. enjoy. let me know and we can make a plan. B.

  11. Going tomorrow and or Tuesday. Cbus through Hocking and back. Leaving around 4:15 as soon as I get out of work, med fast.

    J. FYI

Avoid 33S. it's a parking lot at this time, Construction/Commuters

Deer and school buses are on the move.

    Gets Dark at 5:30pm.

Suggestion: Call in sick, Have the wife work a double shift and come down around 9:30 ride till 2pm go home and make dinner.

You should have my numbers if you need any help/recovery down here riding in the hock. B.

  12. Any interest in riding this coming sunday? temp in the 66 range. Possible can get in a short ride about 300 miles. Pace will be Touring sport ? We will be leaving canfield around 10 heading west

If you are ready to start riding hard packed gravel and Township roads. I can meet you in New Concord gas station and take you on a  Adventure type Loop route: 176.5 miles, Moving time: 4:03 Avg. 46.1mph. It's the only route I know that is up that way.

  13. This was a great event. Everyone was open and friendly. The roads, as everyone knows are fast and flowing. Even off-road had some challenging areas with water crossing and dropout's. I blew by this group of backmarkers on Squirrel gap road I think but they did post a video of the event so that's a good thing. Great Time.
