600cc or 1000cc for starter bikes?(The never ending bike search thread!!)durk replied to yoshiii's topic in Tech and Tips Let me get this straight. If I post a CL link in here you lock the thread? Tempting

Must be an awful small bike.

	Thanks for the info

I started off cautious the next day, but after a stop or 2 it was still there and then I rode it normal. My thoughts when I did lose my engineered clip were, it held this far. So, that made it safe to ride it like I stole it again once I replaced it right. It never seemed to separate at all. You call it balls others probably call it stupid. Thankfully I had no issues and replaced the master as soon as I got home and threw an extra under the seat. I would agree that rivets are better. That was all I could find when I purchased a new chain for the 1000. I definitely feel it is more secure. We won't talk about the fact that I pushed my luck once again taking the OEM chain to 27,000 miles before replacing it.

What Tonik said. I pulled a clip type link before my first trip to the Tail and midway through the clip was missing. I pulled it for the same reason, to soak it in kerosene to clean it. I did some hillbilly engineering once I noticed it missing at a hotel and finished the trip. I would not recommend it. I probably made that same Twist link 4-5 times on that trip. I kept losing it.

So when is the aftermarket exhaust for your triple arriving Doc?
-
@blue72beetle did your sprocket cover have any type of metal case saver incorporated with it? Sorry to see all the damage your chain caused. I know I have pushed my luck with chains in the past, based on your experience here I don't plan to do that anymore.

Sounds like you had a good time B-Mac. Glad you were able to find a suitable rental.

After riding a super sport 2 up for close to 1000 miles when you ride it solo it feels roomy.

I finally caved and purchased this helmet. I ordered it over the weekend, it shipped out Monday and arrived today. Went for a short ride with it and it seems great. What I noticed most compared to my cheaper Fly helmet was the amount of air that flowed in from the top vents. I could actually feel wind blowing through my hair. Never had that with any of my other helmets. Can't wait to test it out on a longer trip. Thanks for a great deal @RidersDiscount

Ouch. Noted. Maybe not as great as I thought. I just started to use a Canyon dancer this year.
-
I used a dancer to haul my bike to and from the gap. Never had an issue with bars or bike moving around. I don't even have a wheel stand or anything and it survived Cincinnati so I'd say a Canyon Dancer is a great product.

It is the cycle. Just not how serious the seller is about letting it go.

600cc or 1000cc for starter bikes?(The never ending bike search thread!!)durk replied to yoshiii's topic in Tech and Tips It says the transmission is automatic. That should make a good 1st bike right?
-
Sounds like a great trip Jacob. Glad you made it home safe. A 1000 miles in 1 day on a Daytona is impressive. You should get a medal for that iron butt.

600cc or 1000cc for starter bikes?(The never ending bike search thread!!)durk replied to yoshiii's topic in Tech and Tips This guy is really trying to help you. Find a bike you like and can afford. Go buy it and ride it. It does not matter if it's carb or fuel injection if it runs well. Chances are you will be looking to sell it and upgrade at some point anyway. This is your 1st bike and more than likely not your last bike you'll ever buy. I understand you are looking to spend almost all the money you have and that's scary. For $1500 realize you probably are not going to find a perfect bike. I would say the 1988 500 ninja that was mentioned at some point has been your best option. Go buy that thing and ride the crap out of it. https://cincinnati.craigslist.org/mcy/6117058030.html This thing was posted a month ago. Give him $1000 and you have money left over for gear. There are over 280 posts here, if you don't have enough information by now you probably never will.

That's awesome Jerry. Have a safe trip home.

Day 3 Foothills Moonshiner 28 Last trip through the Dragon Loaded up and ready to make our way home By the way we ate lunch at the Dragon Pitt before heading home. I had the BBQ pork sandwich. I feel it was the best meal I ate the whole time I was in the area. My daughter also enjoyed the burger she had. I would recommend eating there based on our experience.
-
Thanks Jerry. Are you still on the road or are you home now as well?

Day 2 early on the Dragon Bridal Veil Falls Bald River Falls Cherohala Skyway

Got home this morning at 1:30am. My daughter and I rode 740 miles while in the Deals Gap area. We had a blast. Day 1 was 100 miles at Tail and down to Fontana Dam. Day 2 was beautiful weather 350 miles on Tonik's route. We were gone for 11hrs. Day 3 we got a little damp on our way to the Gambler, but it turned out great. The ride on the Gambler was pretty dry and by the time we got to BRP roads were completely dry. We really got into a rhythm as we blasted up 28 on our way back to the Tail and made our way back to the truck to head home. We rode 290 miles in 6.5 hours. My daughter is a champ. She rode more miles in 2.5 days than a lot guys would even think about. She was sad we had to come home.

We made it to Maryville yesterday in time to ride 100 miles. Trip down and up the Dragon. Ran over to Fontana Dam as well. We are 20 miles from Highlands now. Pics later. Service is rare. AT&T ? Traffic has been pretty light everywhere so far. Had 3 pretty clean runs on the Dragon
