  1. I had ACL surgery December 18, 2014. I was back on the bike probably in March. Definitely was not able to bend my knee quite to the point where I had my toes on the peg but I had the arch of my foot resting on the peg on a 600rr. I probably took a 10 hour ride sometime in May and I also rode the epic that year for the first time. I did not get my toes on the peg until mid to late July when I went to the tale of the Dragon that year. I also got back on the quad riding motocross sometime in June. I had some setbacks so you may even recover faster than I did. I was kicked by a steer in my knee shortly after I started walking again. I also over did it a time or 2 at PT and my knee swelled up like a balloon. My advice is to try to keep the swelling out of your knee as much as you can and do your physical therapy and listen to your body if you feel like you're overdoing it stop. One of the best exercises I found that helped me recover the fastest was riding a bicycle whether that be a stationary bike or a bike on the road or what have you. I still cannot bend my knee that had surgery on it as far as I can my other knee but I can get my toes on the peg, sometimes a little discomfort. I'm doing pretty much everything that I want to outside of playing basketball not sure that I'll ever be able to do that again.
  2. I was in your shoes a year ago in the spring. I to chose to ride the medium pace with hellmutt's group. I think that was the right call for me. I was always riding solo, so it was good to get my feet wet riding with a group before I started riding faster in a group. What I would tell you is that hellmutt pretty much sticks to what is posted as far as speed and such on the first page of this post. I would also tell you that @Hellmutt is a great guy. You will not be disappointed you chose to ride with him. As he mentioned in an earlier post if you like to ride a little bit faster stay close to the front with his group. I did ride with the medium fast group this spring and it definitely was a faster pace.
  3. You are a brave man taking on a CBR 1000 as your first four stroke motor to work on. The first four stroke I ever worked on was just a single cylinder. I am no expert but what happens with the valves to my understanding is they wear into the head and that is why you they need re-shimmed. I know with quads what happens is the quad sucks dirt in there at times through the air filter and it grinds away on the head. Also just wear and tear from the valves beating on the head. The motor comes stock with shims in it. As far as it being a temporary fix I believe it depends on how far they are off. If you're just talking a couple thousandths probably not a big deal, reshim it. If it's to the point where the shim you are using is down to next to nothing compared to what the original shim was more than likely that valve has beat the snot out of the head and needs redone. There are definitely better mechanics than me on this forum so listen to them over me for sure. This is just my elementary understanding of it all.
  4. Lead the way. I have no problem following you. You just need to get your priorities straight. Riding for sure should trump work.
  5. I guess it could be. I just have not found a good route to get there yet.
  6. Just signed up for the med-fast group. Hope the route is worth my 4 hour journey to the meet spot.
  7. So last night my wife and I were watching a show and they were talking about 0-60 times. So I got curious and wanted to know the time for my 06 1000rr. I Looked it up, and on the website I found my info on they said it was 2.9 sec. Here's the kicker though. The 01 F4i was the same time. So maybe @TimTheAzn was right my F4i was probably faster than my 600rr. 600rr was 3.4 sec.
  8. The F4i definitely had more on the lower end compared to 600rr. Never drag raced any of the bikes or tracked them. All just my own feeling. Who knows maybe I was fastest on the F4i.
  9. I had a 01 F4i that I sold around 30,000 miles because I got a 05 600rr. I just sold the 600rr this summer with 34,000 and picked up a 1000rr. Biggest difference between F4i and 600rr was the knee crunch. Not sure there is much difference in seat height. I did feel the 600rr was quicker and handled better. To me it's more of the same with the 1000rr. Handles better and even faster.
  10. That makes sense in the what did you do to your bike today. ?
  11. I appreciate the offer but I'm gonna hold off at this point. Thanks though.
  12. Trying to learn from my mistake. It was hard to follow the speed limit the whole way to work today.
  13. Me and eBay cheapie plastic can do wonders. Thanks.

  17. I would like to but I need to get gloves for the track and that's not gonna happen at this point. I just got rid of the 600rr and picked up a 1000rr. I've spent spent some money with that transition and my wife has already told me she feels like there are new things arriving daily to our house. Then I got a ticket last week. She was not impressed. So I'm gonna hold off and do the track thing next year.
  18. I'm planning to be there in the morning until lunch. I'll be your biggest fan.
  19. It's back to reality on Monday for me doc. I have to be at the school from 8-3 for teacher day. I'm afraid I will be unable to make these rides now. I do get some off the wall days off. I'll check in with you when they come about and see if we can't make something work out.
  20. My bike could out run the charger that pulled me over but I'm not so sure about the radio ahead he put out. I never knew he was there until I decided I should slow down once I saw oncoming traffic. If those cars coming at me would not have slowed and pulled over to curb I would have never saw the lights behind me. I thought about rolling back into it but I had no clue how long he had been following me nor how close he had gotten to me. I was not sure if he had captured my plate number. So I thought it was best to pull over and hope for the best. I had not gotten a ticket in 3 yrs so I figured it may help my cause. In the end probably was the best move for me cuz I was on 9 south just past 151 split and I don't know that there are any side streets to turn off until 22.
  21. I love the 1000. I'm not sure why it has gears 4,5,&6. I think it handles better than my 600. I find myself going faster because it seems as though the engine is never working. Where the 600 was always screaming to do what I wanted it to do. I did pick up a ticket unfortunately yesterday with it. Not that same thing could not have happened with the 600. When I got it I figured if I did not like it I could easily find somebody to trade me a 600 for it. I don't see that ever happening. I do enjoy shifting less. Although I do find myself downshifting at times to get some engine brake for tighter corners (30mph and below) because it seems as though it rolls effortlessly through them. The 600 seemed to always have engine brake because I was high in the rpms constantly. My guess is that bike has a better life now that I'm not ringing its neck.
  22. I got pulled over yesterday and I had earphones in playing music. I think it cost me more than what I could have ended up with. I never heard the sirens or saw his lights and kept blasting away down the road giving the officer more to see. He had radioed ahead to the next town because he thought I was running. Thankfully I finally spotted him in my mirror before I made it to the next town. I'm also grateful the cop was cool. He only wrote me up for 54 in a 35. It could have been much much worse. I also never pulled my helmet to show the earphones until after he handed me the ticket. I'm sure he saw them but he did not say anything to me. They do resemble earplugs but I would have guessed he could tell. I just thanked him for being nice to me.
  23. I've thought about it but I have to be back home by 3 or so and I don't want everything to be rushed. I still have a cbr but it now says 1000 instead of 600 on the side of it. I'm thinking track next year. I still should probably get some better gear for a track day. I have a suit that has the 3/4, 7/8 zipper that I'm fine with. I recently purchased some gauntlet gloves that I thought would be track appropriate but once I received them I question if they are or not. Don't know that my touring boots essentially will cut it either. With what I have spent lately on the new to me bike and my quad my wife will kill me if I go buying more gear for a track day even if I can ride for free. These will be your first track days correct? Be sure to let me know what you think after each of them? Sorry to hear things have been so crazy for. Enjoy your track days.
  24. You're just going to become a regular track guy there @jacobhawkins. At mid Ohio during the week. Then PIRC on the weekend. I'm jealous. I was going to try and come watch you guys at PIRC, if I do it will probably have to be Saturday.
