  1. Instead of modding the cable, maybe use an adapter? This one claims to block data AND set the phone to fast charge mode. https://www.amazon.com/PortaPow-Charge-Block-Adaptor-SmartCharge/dp/B00QRRZ2QM/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_product_sims?ie=UTF8
  2. I tried this as an experiment and the "slow charge" warning went away, but I haven't confirmed higher charging current. That probably still requires the data lines to be shorted on the phone side. The tape simply insulates the data lines.
  3. I actually checked to see if it charged better with the engine running. heh
  4. So, does that cable tell the phone to enable fast charging? Or should I try opening up a cable and shorting the data lines?
  5. I just installed that 3.1 amp charger. The wires or insulation is thinner than it is on the cable from the Battery Tender. My phone indicates slow charging. Tried a couple different cables. It charges fast on the AC adapter. It's probably the cable itself. The data pins might need to be shorted or connected together with a resistor.
  6. What speeds did you reach? No problem without a windscreen?
  7. They don't seem to help the area behind the neck. I do have a Windjammer that I could try again. I don't want to hijack the thread though. Wow, 1300 miles is a lot. I just looked at riding to Charlotte, NC and it's only 440 miles. Only 1/3 of the trip!
  8. I was wondering about that; the riding position my helmet was designed for. Plus, the internal shape is probably not ideal. I always use foam earplugs. The problem for me is turbulence at the base of the helmet behind my neck, unless I tip my chin up a little.
  9. One thing I want to know is how did you deal with wind noise for 1300 miles? It would kill me by 130 miles. Might be time for a new helmet.
  10. I'd buy it! I'd also check the date codes on the tires to see if they are over 5-6 years old. The rear tire has an odd abrasion? https://images.craigslist.org/00g0g_9pyRNcjxuGx_1200x900.jpg
  11. I would only consider clean-title bikes, unless I wanted a project and maybe had another bike to ride. RacersEdge had some clean-titled bikes last time I looked. If you can find a new bike left over from 2016, 2015, or 2014, you could save money on that. It should also qualify for special finance deals, like low or 0% interest or customer cash depending on the manufacturer. (Oh, the amount financed must be a certain minimum amount. So check for that.) For example. 2015 Ninja 300, $3700 2015 YZF-R3, $3700 2013 CBR500R, $4000 2013 SFV650, $4500 2015 Ninja 650, $5000 2015 V-strom 650 ABS, $5500
  12. Uh... I can't believe the things I read here! haha (If I weren't so far away, I'd want that stand, too.)
  13. That's it. I need to make that move to NC. I'd be as little as 166 miles away from Highlands. Would a noob get run over on that route?
  14. Seems they have a mandatory helmet law. Doesn't affect me, but I imagine some people on a hot humid day in NC would rather have an option.
  15. @JustinNck1, what I was thinking, based on those stats, was that riding is NOT as dangerous as it sounded at first. Just be in control and stay in control. That reduces the chance of dying to 17.3%. Acceptable. ^_^
  16. Which company is that? I'm going to need a new company if I leave the state.
  17. How does the XSR 900 compare to the Gixxer 1000 and the F4i? I like how the Yamaha looks like a big engine with some extras like wheels attached to it. ^_^
  18. Eh, I guess the fatality map for The Dragon is more interesting. heh
  19. BTW, in NC you have to pay property tax on vehicles. And pay for annual inspection.
  20. I don't know if these statistics are completely valid, but what do you think? To me it's a good thing if 82.7% of staying alive depends on the rider. (I was looking up DMV info for a potential move and this was in the mc section.) Motorcycles represent about 2% of all registered vehicles in NC, but account for about 10% of all fatalities on our roads. • As of Sept 1st of 2007, 63 % of all crashes involving motorcycles were single vehicle crashes (motorcycle only). • Of those crashes involving other vehicles, over half (53%) were the fault of the motorcyclist. • Of those motorcyclist at fault crashes 81% occurred when the rider crossed the centerline either while passing another vehicle or while negotiating a curve. • Of those other vehicle at fault crashes 57% were failure to yield right of way at an intersection and 43% were turning left across the motorcycles path. • The majority (82.7%) of motorcycle fatal crashes occurred because of the fault of the motorcyclist.
  21. My insurance company raises rates starting at 501cc, so a 500 is that much more practical on a budget. I think a CBR 500 is only 471cc.
  22. hehe Definitely true now! I wonder how many people even know the manufacturer.
  23. I will probably have nightmares and see that connector any time I close my eyes! And I don't even have a VFR.
  24. That's some good work! Now you're that much better at electrical problems. A few times my car's dash would go mad, the radio would cut out, and ultimately the engine would not start. Traced it to a corroded ground and battery terminals. One time I sunk an old car in a puddle. It was completely dead after that. I should've thought to check the ground and starter motor for corrosion or shorting. That was an old AMC Gremlin. heh
