Ha! Your car is in better shape than mine. I have a pile of stuff I need to fix this Spring / Summer: Throw out bearing is making a lot of noise Might as well change the leaking rear main seal while I'm in there Passenger seat is broke, I need someone to weld a plate on it Dash lights don't work again, hopefully just the light switch Tires are dry rotted and shot Brakes are really bad I haven't driven it much in the last two years and the list above is me paying for that. But again, as you said, it's a 30+ year old car. It still starts right up and moves around when I need it to...

I'm jealous! One of these days I'll do something similar with my '86. Like when my kids are older and I just have more time...

I left my house at 7:10, and head down Riverside all the way to 161 and either go Sawmill to Henderson / Bethel and then to 315, or head to the outer belt and take 70 in. My Waze was going crazy with these commute times. I chose Sawmill to Bethel / Henderson. As soon as I got to the southern part of Sawmill, traffic was backed way up and there was ice all over the road. At that point I turned around and went home. This whole ordeal took me about 50 minutes.

It was surely not a driver issue this morning. For whatever reason our city failed to treat the roads last night. I got a few miles into my commute this morning, turned around and came back home. Roads were shit and traffic was a nightmare. One of the worst commutes I've seen in the 18 years I've lived here. Thankfully I can work from home in situations like this. I just didn't realize it was that bad until I got into Dublin.

That was really one of the driving parts of this trip. I could save a couple hundred dollars with the gift card thing, plus any similar trip (unless I went to the D.R., and I haven't heard as many good things about the D.R., compared to the Riviera Maya) was going to cost me a lot more money. Last year we went to Sanibel Island, FL and it cost me about $3400 for the week. I might be closer to $4K by the time it's all said and done, but this should be far more fun than Sanibel was...

I ended up buying the trip yesterday. It was actually through Groupon, so I bought $1980 in Giant Eagle gift cards (for the adult vouchers, the kids had to be purchased separately). So now I've got a crap ton of free gas coming. Plus I used my Amex Blue Cash Preferred to buy them, which gets me 6% back at grocery stores. Going through the gift card / Amex route ends up saving me around another $240 on the trip. However I put part of that back into the trip, because I had to pay for luggage, my seat selections, and travel insurance. I just felt better buying the insurance with it being hurricane season. If I have to cancel for any reason, I can do it within 24 hours of the trip. And the week I wanted was sold out, so I had to move it to July 29th. Thanks to all for their replies, I'll have to start a new thread after my vacation and let everyone know how it was!

I totally get this response. When we were in Roatan in 2014, the staff at our resort seemed really off all the time. We had some conversations with the security staff there and it was really eye opening on how long they work and how little they are paid. I want to say the security guy had to be down near the beach for 12-14 hours a day, making like $20 for the whole day, or something crazy like that. Great responses in here everyone, thanks! I'm probably going to pull the trigger today.

Where do you go? I'm looking at staying at the Grand Sirenis.

Is it worth it to take a trip up to Playa for the day? Have you done the Whale Shark swim?

I'm looking at booking an all inclusive vacation for my family (me, the wife, and my kids who are 7 and 8) at one of the resorts in the Riviera Maya area of the Mexican Caribbean. I'm looking at places way south of Playa del Carmen, near Akumal Beach. Has anyone been to this area before? I went to Cozumel back in 2016, but it was just my wife and I. Never done the family thing before for a vacation like this. It's a pretty good deal, you get a week all inclusive, with the flights for the four of us, for about $3200. Reviews on the place are pretty good, about 4 stars. I just wondered if anyone had anything to add, if they've been there and can suggest anything to do or not do, etc.

Oh man, this one is just as funny:

You can post it for free on Cars.com if you hunt around for a code. That's what I did with my SVT Contour. I'd also post on CraigsList, but enjoy the replies...

Same here...

Winter / Rainy beater + Something fun for the nice weather. That's the only option I'd ever consider. Hence I daily a Ford Fiesta in the winter and the other "fleet" in the nice weather...

If anyone can still give recommendations, I'd appreciate it. I am looking to blacktop my huge gravel driveway in the Spring...

Well done. A few of my friends who have small businesses have said similar things...

Yeah, because I spent 22 years in Rochester, I just didn't get how bad the snow and cold was. I never knew any difference. Columbus is so much better. However I'd love an even better climate of say a Nashville or Charlotte. But I love our city for a lot of other things. It's got a great mix of things that makes me just deal with it in the Winter. Yeah, I think the northern part of the state fucks this up. Not that Columbus is the shit for sunshine...
-
This and the near constant grey weather is what depresses the shit out of me in winter here. However, it could be worse. We could have to deal with a lot of snow as well. I grew up in upstate New York and don't miss that at all. People can't drive here and it just fucks up my commute and day when we get any decent amount of snow. And yes, I hate winter too and look forward to this day. Actually right after Xmas I just really start thinking about Spring. I also get colder faster due to far less body fat than I used to have...

I still own it, my 1986 Mustang GT. I've now had it for almost 14 years, which is by far the longest I've owned anything. I'll never part with it, it's in my will to my brother. The four eyed 5.0 has always been my favorite car of all time. I just love the headlights and blacked out hood. You almost never see them on the road as well. People are always asking if it's for sale. #2 for me is my 2003 Cobra, which I still also own. Tons of streetable power for very little money. Here's an older pic of them with my brother's silver Cobra and my old 1998 Contour SVT: http://wease.net/Fords/Fords1.JPG

Yeah, that's the fuck stick who got me in the Cobra years ago. I got a good chuckle when he was busted for the Kid Toucher Porn. Since then, no font plates on the following cars: G8, Cobra, Fiesta. And no tickets. Ever. The way I see it, is that the front plate thing only really becomes an issue if you get pulled over for something else. Then they may or may not notice, and decide to also get you for that. Of my cars that don't have front plates, it's because they weren't originally Ohio cars and the bumper is not drilled out for them. Nor will I drill them out.

Still downtown, but that's 25 miles from my house. So 25 miles both ways, plus a trip to the gym on the way home and maybe lunch, etc. That's pushing 60 miles a day.
-
I wanted something newer and more reliable than the now 19 year old Contour. And it wasn't in my "long term plans", I only bought it to drive for a bit and make some money on. Plus the Fiesta is paid off as well, I didn't get a loan for it. All cash, baby. The Market and Trump have been good to me...

Because it didn't meet my two main criteria: 1. Under $8K 2. Get close to 40 MPG

I had one a long time ago, like 30 years ago back in New York. Ferrets were very new at the time, not many people had one. There wasn't actual ferret food, so we fed him cat food. He was a really nice pet, never bit, but not the smartest one. I've always thought that you could tell how the ferrets at the pet store are treated based on their biting habits. If you pick one up and he's biting a lot, he's probably been mishandled by 973 little kids. Everyone hit on the main points: Don't let them roam the house, they do smell, they love to steal shit. Mine was NOT litter box trained, he would just randomly back up into a corner and shit if he had to go. That drove my Dad crazy. Mine lived about 6 years, I did enjoy him while I had him, but I'd never get another one. They just require too much of my attention and I'm too busy for a pet like that now.
