So I just re-booked this trip. We're now going to Cozumel over Thanksgiving. Prices were really good, way better than Xmas or New Years. I had to upgrade the flights a bunch to get good times, but my goal was to use up my voucher and pay little else. And I succeeded, as it only cost me $131 extra, after my voucher was applied. I was looking at Aruba, which is far enough south to be seaweed free, but apparently the west side of Cozumel (where most of the resorts are) is mostly seaweed free as well. I went to Cozumel for my brother's 40th birthday back in 2016 and we had a really good time, so I know some about the island...

Yup. All of this factored into my decision to scrap going there and do something else. I've also read that most of the seaweed issues seem to be happening in the Summer, so if I move our vacation to Fall or Winter, that should help. I just can't describe how pissed I would have been if we get down there and the water is pretty much off limits...

So for anyone who's considering going to the Caribbean this summer, I just cancelled our trip to the Riviera Maya. I had been reading reviews of our resort all Summer and I kept seeing things about seaweed on the beach, and you couldn't get in the water. Google news brought back more results of "sargassum" seaweed, all over the Caribbean. Hell, it's even washing up in South Florida. Then I found a beach webcam just south of where we were going to stay. This is a pic from today: http://wease.net/pics/Seaweed.png It was going to be my kid's first time snorkeling, and they would have been crushed if we couldn't do it. At that point it's almost been reduced to a pool vacation and hell, I can do that in the U.S. Fortunately for me, I bought the trip insurance, but not the full blown "You get your money back" one. The one I bought gives you a voucher that you have to use within a year. So I called them Monday and cancelled our trip. I'm thinking of going to Aruba over Thanksgiving instead. From what I've read, they've been unaffected by the seaweed and we were there 10 years ago and had a great time.

I offered this up to my son, but he just wanted to walk around and look at everything up close. Thanks though! We ended up getting there at around 6:00, stayed until about 8:30. Burnouts were cool. Lots of good stuff up there. I think I saw Aaron's Mustang drive through the side lot of QSL and then drive off. My boy had a good time, he saw lots of things he liked. Didn't see any other Terminator Mustangs, just mine. My favorite part was a white G8 doing a huge burnout and the look on my son's face, as I have that same car. He didn't realize the G8 could pull that off...

This is literally what I'll hopefully be doing. My 7 year old son has really been into cars lately, since I got my Cobra back on the road. I hope to be out at QSL with him in the Cobra and then cruise around to see what else is going on...

Yeah, I got the same feeling when I called. I didn't call their bluff, I just gave up. Now I can get Frontier, but it's MUCH slower. I think like 18mbs is what it says on their site?! Yeah, I can't switch to that. I don't need a ton of speed, but that's a serious hit.

I'll have to test it later when I'm home. I'm betting with that new speed, there's little chance I'm gonna get any price break. I don't need the extra speed, but whatever.

I think I was paying for 50mbs? I guess I should also look to see what I'm getting from Spectrum now.

So back before Spectrum was Time Warner, every year I was able to negotiate a cheaper rate for my internet. They'd knock like $15 off their standard rate and I'd get my monthly rate down to $35. Once Spectrum took over, it went up to $60. I spent a hot second on the phone with them once, to try and lower the rate, but they weren't budging. I haven't tried again, but I was wondering if anyone else had any luck with Spectrum and getting a better deal?

Oh wow, I'm old enough that I remember GTS Mustangs for sale new on the lot. I wanted one, just for the "stripper" factor. I haven't thought of or seen one in years! Good luck selling it, love it!

Agreed. I've lived in the country way longer than any of you Old School members and just keep adding cars to my list...
