    Windows 7

I asked the boss the same question. I'd rather run windows 10. I don't even need it cracked, once its running on my hyper-v server I apply it to my licensing, I just can't download it from the above link without a key which I don't even need lol.

Yeah that's the link, but needs keys which I don't have and don't need for 8, 10, and various server ISOs.

    Windows 7

Just thought I'd ask if anyone knows where to get a good ISO of Windows 7. I'm not doing anything illegal with it and normally would download it from the MS Developer Network but they removed it from their supported OS versions as far as I can tell. The only way they have to download it currently requires entering the product key to download. The other OS products don't require this step in the Devnet. I'm setting up a lab for my boss and need to make two virtual machines running win7. I didn't want to have to hack the keys, but looks like that might be the only way now.
  4. Usually a huge harring rookery out near buckeye lake. Gets lots of attention from bird watchers.
  5. I'd use drive cloning if the only thing changing is the DRIVE. Trying to put all new hardware onto an existing windows installation will most likely cause problems even if you can get it to work. It likely wouldn't even boot into windows and the built in system repair might not be enough. I've done it, but each time with windows 8-10 it took a lot of work.
  6. I've been seriously researching for awhile now and even considered building something in various ways. In the end they are expensive and especially in Ohio they are gonna suck energy and they do have monthly costs for supplies and typically major parts last 3-5 yrs so they eat money in several ways. Beyond that I still am getting one eventually, however it will be a cheap or free used one that I rebuild for a few thousand.
  7. The HF $40 one has lasted many years under heavy use for me. I've literally taken apart several vehicles with it and I'm lazy so I use it for any bolt I can get the tool on. The only thing its failed to do is the lug nuts on my Deuce and a Half, but those give even 1" drive professional brands a workout.

  9. Here in Fort Mill, SC is the same thing. Median housing price is 365K and they go into contract within 4-8hrs of hitting the market unless theres something wrong. Then they end up selling for 10-15K more than asking due to bidding. I'm expecting real estate to correct if not crash again in a few years. People haven't learned to live within their means yet. The wife and I are going the opposite direction and looking at a house as a place to live, not a McMansion and are using money for much more interesting ways.

    Windows 10

yeah windows 10 has been great here too besides the mentioned start menu being kinda laggy. The default windows 10 interface is much better than windows 8. I love being able to right click the start button and to get to most of my settings and a DOS prompt.
  11. BitLocker works with or without TPM. Much simpler without it. TPM is designed to prevent someone from walking out the door with the computer and hacking into it later by breaking the windows user accounts which are relatively easy to break. In a correctly set up office TPM is something you would put on the servers. No data should be stored on the workstations, thats always asking for trouble.
  12. If she's not a windows PC tech then bitlocker could be pretty hard to use due to some things that need to be configured. If you wanted to encrypt each PC then you'd need a second hard disk in each one or at least a second "data" partition on the single disks. You encrypt the data disk or partition, not the system partition. The simple cheap and dirty solution is pick a PC with a second disk in it and turn bitlocker ON on that disk and share it out to the user names within the LAN's workgroup. Also make sure all the authorized names have read/write access as needed. This way everyone with a username has access to the files otherwise only the author can use the files. As I mentioned the best method is an AD domain with a corp hierarchy with rights being managed by a secure server.
  13. Thats one of the biggest things I miss about Columbus, the downtown photo opportunities are endless. Charlotte has its spots, but nothing like Columbus. According to the locals it was nicer before Sherman burned it to the ground, hehe. Very nice set!! I got a tip for you though, get some of those printed on metallic. You'll love the results.
  14. Windows comes with EFS (encrypting file system) and Bitlocker drive encryption. Either would work to protect files from anyone stealing and trying to read them. Individual files up to whole drives can be encrypted. Personally if security was a necessary part of my businesses IT needs I'd consider getting a dedicated system to act as server and run at least MS small business server or 2012 server essentials and get the company running under an active directory domain, file server, cloud backed up through something like azure, AWS, etc and do it right from the start. There's a little bit of costs involved but in the long run things will run smoother. I see every day, small companies running a mix of XP through windows 10 machines on unsecure LAN's and even wireless LAN's with no security or backup solution in mind. Let me know if you got any questions on using Windows to do this, I'd enjoy to helping out.
  15. I was just joking to the guys at work that the last two days have been real "ohio weather" in charlotte. started off cold 30 degrees, had some clouds, rain, back up to 70's then a tornado, and now back to normal for NC.
  16. My wife lost her mother unexpectedly and her father dealt with bad health for decades. Its hard either way.
  17. Reminds me of the railroad bridge in Belpre, OH. Happens all the time.
  18. The wife and I will be in the Fort Lauderdale area this weekend and next week for the yacht show. I've never been to the area and an looking for some sight seeing (I saw the ft Lauderdale water front looks interesting) and maybe a couple nice restaurants to try. I'll be doing my googling this week and I know some of you go there or have lived there any suggestions are appreciated.
  19. That is a fact you can Google, the pizza sucks here. If there was a pizza place that made something taste like any random joint in Ohio, example Christies in Newark. And put that location near the Yankees here you'd be busy and rich. Another thing , nyc style delis suck here too. One finally opened in tega cay and it's so busy it's expanding hours, caused at least one competitor to close and is expanding its size.
  20. I've been in the SC/NC Charlotte area now for over two years and I've not seen any bugs. Except for several Hercules Beetles and those are awesome. The last mosquito I saw was back in Ohio. The weather is so amazing it must be experienced. No one from Ohio would believe that you literally go weeks/months between overcast days and in between is blue skies and puffy white clouds. Oh the locals, bitch about the weather constantly, if its not exactly 72 degrees they cry. If the humidity is above 40% they cry, if it rains for more than 2 days in a row they cry. I love every fucking day here because no matter what its not as bad as Ohio's weather and just changing that part of my life which I could do something about by simply moving was totally worth it. Having said that, it would be nice to able to get an excellent pizza, about the best you can do here is the national chains. I personally would like to move to the coast and start boating and thats in the plans, but not yet.
  21. There's several local places to get Steamer Pots. Very good if you like fresh seafood, you take it home and boil it yourself. Also wife and I found a nice little coffee shop http://www.frontporchcafeonline.com/ Cool distillery http://outerbanksdistilling.com/
  22. The big issue we ran into around Columbus and now again here in SC south of Charlotte is the restrictions. There's land everywhere, but only if your building a stick built home around 2500 sq ft. Some areas are allowing modulars and I'm not even talking about sub divisions. Wife and I are talking about our next home here in NC and if we build anything again we will be contracting the project ourselves to save more money. That wouldn't be the best route for everyone, but between myself and my Dad we can get the work done right and have built several houses from the ground up ourselves.
