NRP will give us a few options. They probably have a normal Friday night program. I'm not sure what time that starts but they may let us shift the window from 11-5 instead of 10-4 if it quits raining and they're still drying the track. They may also give us the option of prorating the rental and returning some of the money back if the rental can only be from like 12-4 for example. It does look like the rain should be pretty cleared out by 7-8am. However, the track won't be ready to go at 10:00 if its still raining at 7-8am.

If the weather does end up looking shakey, what is the plan in regards to cancellation? Is it going to be called off the night prior, very early Friday morning, or not until the last second? I'm sure many people, myself included, are taking a day off work for this. I'd love to know if the plug is getting pulled by say 5:00-6:00am the day of so that we still have the opportunity to get to work instead of blowing a vacation day on a rainout. Lastly, any chance of a rain out date or is the this the only shot?

Weather.com still doesn't look promising. Why couldn't the rental be right now while it's been beautiful out?!

"They"=CR. There is no NRP tech. You can have any degree of tech (or none) you want at a private track rental. All NRP demands is that everyone present signs the waiver.
-
It wouldn't normally be open for a rental unless you pay to have their workers there. And then, I believe you have to guarantee a minimum number of concessions to them.
-
You can program the duration of the pull (the amount of load that it applies) to whatever you want. My car spools a tad quicker at the track than it does on that Dynapack. I've found the loading variation to swing the AFRs way more than the boost response compared to the track. Independent of how the operator programs the sweep. you can make the dyno spit out any number you want. As long as its never screwed with in the long term then it really doesn't matter. For example, there's an AWD Mustang dyno up north that spit out notoriously low dyno numbers compared to the dynojets. He probably was losing business because of it because most people don't treat a dyno as a tuning tool and use it more for trophy numbers. Now, as of about a year ago, this same dyno is magically spitting out "Dynojet like" numbers.

Dan, Bring your driving helmet. Thanks.

Not true in my experience.

You're probably right as I never paid super close attention. I wouldn't trust that junk in my truck let alone real car

The last rental we did a few months back, they did ask us if anyone needed race gas from the pumps. They are Sunoco 112 and 116 pumps (I think).
-
Did you install a new hydraulic tensioner or reuse the old one? Same question on the tensioner and idler pulleys.
-
Set the base timing to 5* BTDC by moving the CAS (the rotating sensor on the end of the intake cam). Use a timing light to reference the crank pulley against the 5* located on the timing belt cover.

It won't be a track day for me unless I sling off a pumpkin (or at least some rear axles).
-
No you aren't wrong. That was my point as it seems crazy for him to be on a 3rd box already. That is why I would question the aptitude of the guy/dealer that rebuilt the original boxes. They just shouldn't be failing like that.
-
EVO trannys are fairly stout and cars in that power range (compared to DSMs) and racers have gone multiple seasons on them. Front diffs are a problem and rear axles eventually become one. It sounded to me in talking with Jeff that you guys have had some bad luck with the dealer rebuilder. Mike needs to get Shepherd on his next rebuild once the dealer isn't covering it I would predict that the car will ET somewhere between 10.80-11.20 if the 60' is in the mid to low 1.7 range. He'll have traction issues on drag radials with the 2.3l
-
OK, I'll take the bait So what is the targeted ET to go along with said 140mph trap speed?
-
I'm not trying to stir the pot any further. My point was: the list is a strong point by the poster. I realize that most of you guys do not know the names of the people/shops on that list. Most of those poeple have been doing DSMs/EVOs for over a decade with VERY PROVEN results. It would be very shortsighted, and discrediting to these people's hard work, for someone else to just put a car together and make claims based on hopes and dreams. With all that said, I have been trying to stay very open minded about this car and I think it has the potential to do nice things. However, cars don't just roll out and run 140mph unless the planets align. There's much more to making a dyno number or feeling like it is fast on the street and going out and proving it. My car has made over 650whp and weighs less than 3000lbs. Why has it only gone 128mph? I've spent two years troubleshooting issues with why my car has underachieved with the limited finances I've had to work with. I also have the best resources available to me that my little DSM worls has to offer in terms of help and advice. Something happens each time, a part fails, the planets aren't aligned , ETC... It just is easier said than done is all my point is. The people on that list have been doing it a long time. I guarantee if you ask Dave Buschur, he will tell you that they have 10 letdowns compared to 1 feel good day when it comes to drag racing.
-
Actually, if you knew anything about these cars, you would realize that your reference to a 140mph trap would put the car in question amoungst "one of the fastest EVO's in the country". I think the posted list clearly proves that
-
I am in no way trying to flame on Mike's car or its capabilities. I was actually trying to promote a semi-technical conversation on what the car should or should not do based on the parts on it. It does seems like technical conversations are far and few here though so I can see how this would be misinterpreted.
-
I asked qualifying questions here and on ColDSM because I think I that I confidently know what these cars are capable of better than most. If the car weighs what I think it weighs, and isn't being sprayed then it isn't going 140mph. It can be driven by Curt Brown, fed VP Import, ran at x PSI, liquid intercooled, or whatever else you want to happen, but there have been 3-4 EVOs in the country that have ever hit 140MPH with that turbo. All cars mentioned were lightened a decent amount (sometimes alot) and driven by very experienced drag racers.

I promise the second $35 is on the way
