  1. Will post back in more complete fashion tonight including examples. However, initially: Shutter Priority (Tv Mode on Canon) Get low Shoot Wide open to perhaps 1 stop down from max (Good glass makes a difference) f/2.8-f/3.2 range You can go higher if you have a good zoom. Zoom (70-200mm) min. Bigger is better. Panning shots shutter of 1/160th to 1/200th. Off the line/burnout shots upwards of 1/640th. A Polarizer filter. Should have one in your bag at all times anyway. Read up on how to compensate for exposure when using one. Bring a monopod. Especially if shooting with a large lense. Makes panning easier an holding a camera all day easier too. Key is to Isolate vehicle. You want a nice bokeh, not a pics with hillbillies visibile in the background. Shooting wide and zooming accomplishes this. There are times you want great DOF so no absolutes. Only hot chicks and cool drivers are acceptable people in these shots. You don't want stop action photos, you want to convey motion and wheel spin. Of course proper exposure and framing are key. Night races will require multiple strobes to be considered money shots. Safety wise, it's always good to have a spotter too. I've been to events where there have been wrecks or debris tossed and you don't want to be focused through a lens when a car hits you or a tire bounces off your head. Capture more than just cars. Remember people pay to see eyes too. That holds true at all venues. More later.....
  2. My guess is Jones is whacking off right now. Looks like a fun trip.
  3. Can't wait to see them! I couldn't control shutter on the water as all but the one was taken with my brother in law's point and shoot Olympus. :dumb:
  4. So for the 11th year in a row we packed up the family to head up to our property in Oregon kicked around there a little bit and then headed up to into Washington. This year was spectacular weather wise with highs in the low 80's and lows in the 50's. We had a blast. We held off on our trip to Seattle and across the boarder into Victoria because we just plain wanted to have fun taking it slow. 10 days of fun including trips to Mt. Hood, Mt St. Helens, The Columbia River Gorge, Various places of fun in the Cascades, and Sun River for some horseback riding and white water rafting. The Caldera Springs Resort inside Sun River is a five star place and lives up to it. The home we stayed in was great. It was 6 bedrooms and plenty of room for our family, my brother in law and his and relatives from Japan too. Good times were had. http://i541.photobucket.com/albums/gg378/pdqgp/99.jpg ^^ Rental House inside Sun River Resort http://i541.photobucket.com/albums/gg378/pdqgp/Inbox/2.jpg Crater Lake is the most beautiful crisp clean place in Oregon. This year we took a boat ride out to Wizard Island too. First time we've done that. Well worth it. One of the Panorama's I took was 8 shots wide at 16mm. HUGE! http://i541.photobucket.com/albums/gg378/pdqgp/Inbox/3.jpg I've been going to Mt. St. Helen's since I was in college. I was ten years old when it blew and love the history behind this place. http://i541.photobucket.com/albums/gg378/pdqgp/crater5-1.jpg ^^ View from our helicopter ride into the crater and all around the site. http://i541.photobucket.com/albums/gg378/pdqgp/Inbox/10.jpg http://i541.photobucket.com/albums/gg378/pdqgp/11.jpg
  5. SO MUCH WIN in this thread I'm amazed that the word Mustang is still coming up. That's the perfect car for him. Quick, but not too fast, AWD, manual, reliable, good looking, clean, damn! Buy the kid some condoms and demand he get laid in it Nice find!
  6. If you break it up, I am interested in the Microwave. PM Me with pricing / details if so.
  7. Then you're not playing hard enough.
  8. Same Car, another pic. http://www.pbase.com/timothylauro/image/136052157/medium.jpg Click Above for larger image
  9. I had Oscars and a good size Pike when I had tanks. A hobby I would love to get back into but time owns me. In fact we're about to tear down the measly little 29gal we've had to replace it with a book case.
  10. Good Eats. Just hosted a few meetings for our doctors there. I didn't realize it was a chain until I went down to Atlanta and saw one
  11. That's the stuff we use.
  12. Tom is cool as hell. The wheels are definitely not something I would pick even if they were $1. However, if you spend just a bit of time with Tom, you'll get that humor behind them. The reactions here are what it's about. Hell, the guy has a great set of rides and if he can afford to do that to a great car, then I think that alone trumps our opinion. Again, that's Tom. It's a kit lens where the f-stop varies depending on the focal length. You did nothing wrong. That explains things. Thanks. Thank you. Yep, just keep things straight and I'll show you a couple things on fill flash. Andy fired his here in this shot while out with his new camera. http://www.columbusracing.com/forums/showpost.php?p=1422364&postcount=6 I edited it a bit (original is in his post there). However, all he has to do is use a little - FEV and with bright sun like he was facing at 2:30pm, dial down the EV too.
  13. Here's one where the subject trumps all others in the thread. Nice job using the stock flash. Most folks with a new camera wouldn't expect to need a flash on a sunny day, but that's when they are needed most. Try it next time with the Flash Exposure Value (FEV) at about -2 or -3 if it will go that far. That way you won't over expose the skin tones. You may even have to dial down the Exposure Value (EV) too. If that's Greek to you, I'll be happy to explain it. http://www.pbase.com/timothylauro/image/137419497/original.jpg
  14. Looks like fun was had. If the camera's clock is right, which it appears to be, mid afternoon is a harsh time to get photos. Try the same in either early morning or after dinner during the golden hour. Fall is a great time for late day photos since the sun is low in the sky.
  15. He's such the contributing member to society :dumb:
  16. Add wine and chocolate cake for a great end to an evening. http://i541.photobucket.com/albums/gg378/pdqgp/Inbox/Dinner-2.jpg
  17. Gotta love playing around.....again, nice shot Max. http://www.pbase.com/timothylauro/image/137407974/medium.jpg Click image above for larger size http://www.pbase.com/timothylauro/image/137408572/medium.jpg Click image above for larger size
  18. Sorry to here man. Thinking of you though... http://www.columbusracing.com/forums/showthread.php?t=95483
  19. I'm bringing Staten's Chariot to C&C next week. You-Me, we' lining up on 315 for $20 :gabe: Welcome to the club. I'm with you that dollar for dollar, there's isn't a better value out there in terms of ride quality, utility, creature comforts. If I were handy like some of the guys here and could do it myself, yeah, I could see getting silly and putting some boost on it. :lolguy: Now just talk the Mrs. into getting kinky inside it. The memories of such make driving it rather fun. http://www.pbase.com/timothylauro/image/135150928/medium.jpg Click the Above for a higher resolution shot
  20. Never had them, never want them. I attribute this to keeping the dogs on flea treatments. The kind that render fleas sterile. This way if our dogs have them and I'm sure by fate they've had one on them, the flea bites and either dies from the treatment and or is left sterile so they can't breed should they make a home off the dog say in my carpet or what not. I also have the yard treated twice per year. Hell, this year we have done it twice already and another treatment is coming in the next month or so. Our dogs are inside dogs too.
  21. Nonesense! Your shots are fine! http://www.pbase.com/timothylauro/image/137401668/original.jpg ^^^ Great pic. Better than mine as you captured the best expressions and faces. With kids that's tough as they are fast! I took 4 in a row and still didn't get a money shot like you did. Just apply a few edits and you're good. If you're interested in one tip to practice on for next time, it's to keep horizon's straight. In this case the other tip would be to have popped up your built in flash, dial down it's Flash Exposure Value to -1 to -2 and use it as fill flash since the subjects are back lit. It will eliminate shadows, even out exposure and put a nice catch light in their eyes. I know you have a kit lens, but opening it up will help blur the background. The bokeh in this edit would be better given a different lens used, but I combined it with a bit of a glow to match the edge treatment. Again, great shot.
  22. ^^ I love the edit Best pick in this thread :lolguy:
  23. My bad. I was confusing the ST with the economy version. I'm thinking RS. IMO, if Ford doesn't bring the 300+HP RS Over here then they are losing out. They need to skip the 250hp version all together.
  24. HaHa! Yeah, I saw the SRT but didn't connect it with you in my brain. Next time!
  25. Totally different cars. Do you want to spend money on performance or economy? I'm not one for the look of the new MS3's. Besides, you can pick up a lightly used one for a good deal. If you buy new you'll need winter tires. Check the used ones too as the stock MS3 tires are summer only. I can help you as I'm selling my set, just need to get around to posting them.
