1988 Camaro (1LE equipped) - Showroom Stock Race Car
craig71188 replied to craig71188's topic in LBTS GLWS
Bump... Did have a vehicle history report run (thanks again Joe!)- tub spent most of its life in the SW US and California before being last titled in Wisconsin. Probably became the donor tub for a wrecked original 1LE's parts (hence the removed VIN plate - they could use the original logbooks, though these are still MIA) sometime post 1995. I have not yet forked over cash to the Wisconsin BMV for a title search as the last owner (the one who raced it) likely did not bother transferring the title to their name. That said, nothing historical to worry about with the chassis - just a GREAT pile of parts preassembled - modify at will with a clear conscience. Make me an offer.... -
Lock it up - done - thanks again Joe!

PM sent - thank you!

Anyone? Before I go spend my nickel....

The '88 Camaro race car has no VIN plate. We have found the paper VIN tags on the rear bodywork. It has never been titled in Ohio and the Federal National database does not show it stolen or salvaged. I really don't want to pay for a "vehicle history" report when all I really need to know is what state it was last registered in (to help us track down its race history, old logbooks, body in white?). Please PM me if you can run a VIN and access this information for me. Thank you!

I will give you one piece of advice. Check to see if the compressor has a large orange wire(bundle) going into it/check your owners manual/check with multiple sources. I know the later Prius has a true electric hybrid compressor - not 100% sure on the 2000. If it has the electric compressor DO NOT use any retail store "recharge with oil added" cans, nor take it to anyone who does not do a lot of hybrid a/c work. Contamination with non-hybrid oil COULD mean replacing EVERYTHING in the system. While these use conventional refrigerant, the oil used is a "non-conductive" oil and as little as 2%-3% can trigger an electrical fault and shut down the system. This amount of contamination is POSSIBLE to get from simply reusing a gauge set that has been on another car with conventional compressor oil. Shops that do hybrids will typically have a dedicated set of tools for them to avoid cross contamination.

Sorry I can't help on the ovarian cancer, but I would tell her everyone is different. A little over ten years ago my best friend while in his 40's contracted (what should have been) very treatable colon cancer - it spread despite treatment and we lost him. Fast forward to a little over a year ago and my 82 year old mother-in-law was also diagnosed with colon cancer and a major tumor on her liver (listed as "class 4" liver cancer). After her treatment she has been in remission for over 6 months and counting. Science, doctors, whatever - each person is different and I personally believe in a positive attitude and faith. The truth is it might take her life - then again, she may respond to treatment and be in remission for years to come.

Looking for a good used regulator for a nitrogen bottle to run air tools/fill tires trackside. 3K-4K bottle side / 100-250 capacity output side. Let me know brand/model/price if you've got a spare. Thanks.

BTW Bump! ("new" race car located - could use the space) If someone is interested in the car with less "stuff" - I would consider keeping some tires/wheels and some of the uninstalled performance parts to help on the price a bit. -
These are old steel gutters. They have been repainted numerous times and look like crap - and now they are actually starting to rust through pinholes in various places..... it's just time.
-
OK, after 50+ years the steel gutters original to the house have had it. Time for new seamless gutters and some sort of gutter guard system. Whose had it done / recommend a good installer, etc. etc. etc. Thanks!

I purchased this car last year for Solo II use and the occasional track day. Due to a lack of competitiveness in Solo with the 305 I have decided to go another way. Great car for Chump or track days.... The details: 1988 305 5 speed car w/1LE brakes, driveshaft, AC delete, etc. Full cage, fire system, race seat, older Motorola radio set up and LOADS of spares from the previous endurance team. Car is till in Showroom Stock trim except for a set of Ground Control adjustable spring perches and springs. No title, no VIN plate, original white body car. We did find paper VIN tags on the car showing '88 IROC Z. Spares: 3.5 sets of 16x8 GTA style wheels (16 lbs ea.) - 2 sets of mounted Hancook tires (1 event on 1 set, 1 set of stickers), 1 set of mounted Firestone full tread depth tires - old, 2 front wheels w/worn Hoosiers Spare 305 TPI motor, 5 speed transmission, piles of sway bars, misc spare springs, spare doors, 2 deck lids 6-8 totes of misc suspension, alternators, misc 4-6 tool boxes w/spare calipers, studs, RACE brake pads, misc consumable Misc. performance stuff not yet installed: shorty headers (it still has the stock exhaust manifolds & air pump on it!), Spohn track bar kit, ball ported TPI runners and ported plenum and lower intake. 20 x 8.5 Royal enclosed trailer is available with the car - or after the car sells, Rear ramp door, 4' side door, 5000# torsion axles (not the standard cheap 3500# sets typical on low price trailers) Sorry, no logbooks from the Firehawk series, does have an SCCA logbook as an ITE car. Also, no, I do not want to split out any parts at this time. First preference will be given to someone who wants to keep it all together to race. If the car is sold without some of the spares, they will be offered up at that time. $10,000 for everything or $6,000 for the car and all the spares (over $1K in new tires!)

Sold - Lock it up. CL buyer who liked bronze.

I don't know too much about Dorman's regulators, but their window lift MOTORS are iffy at best. You may want to see if you can find a regulator/motor from ACi. A division of my parent company, good stuff - in fact we like to think the pressure we put on Dorman made their product better.

WTB: 4th Gen F-Body Posi Center Section - Torsen Type

Got one - lock it up - Thanks Scott! -
The facility will accommodate autocross events. 1) The parking lots surrounding the facility will be an option 2) The entire infield will be paved and could also be used Road Course race - probably not enough space for that.
-
The car was run in F-Production. It is listed as eligible for C-Street Prepared or STR as well. All Porsche's are excluded from SM classes. I am assuming due to the lightened flywheel and rear bumper they went FP, but I would think it could easily slip into CSP or STR locally without any problems.

PM to you for details... -
Anybody got one of these they took out to run a spool/locker? Spare just lying in the garage? Yes, I am too busy (some might say lazy) to go junking for on. Let me know what you got / price. Thanks.
-
It is not my favorite color either - they chose it because it was a solid tub for the right price....
-
Nope. They did the work (other than machine work) themselves. I know them well enough that I didn't ask. Just looking at the motor in this car you can tell it's not been in there for 120K. I know everyone's motor was "just rebuilt" - but I think this car speaks for itself upon inspection.
-
The previous owner/builder is a friend, he cut me a good deal, just looking to recoup what I have in it. To buy a decent 944 and replicate this car would cost you close to twice the asking price. The previous owner that built the car crews for a Grand Am team and had help from a national championship winning crew chief on sports racers in SCCA. It's not perfect, but all the goodies are there. Throw on a set of bigger wheels/tires and a bolt in cage and go racing....

1983 Porsche 944 NA 5 spd, 120K miles. Car is set up for autocross / Solo II / Porsche Club / track days / etc. Front camber plates, Koni yellows all around, QA1 springs on threaded collars up front, Sway bars, Fidanza lightened flywheel, remote oil filter, cold air intake, BMW projector beams replace factory fog lights. Motor, clutch, gearbox and differential all rebuilt or replaced 2 years ago. Good summer street tires. Car runs and drives strong, some rattles as you might expect with the upgraded suspension. I purchased this just to commute to the airport and just for fun. Too many other projects leave me no time to use this car as it should be. Would be a great base for a 944 Cup car. Vintage Laydown Enduro or Superkart, Yamaha TZ250 2cyl, 2 stroke motor, 5 or 6 speed gear box, I have not researched / checked. Kart has a plate on the front floorpan marked: Paul Sobko Racing Products 0501 London Ontario Motor is sound and runs, all fuel lines and coolant lines just replaced. Carbs have cracks in the fuel bowls and leak - will need replaced. Brakes are inoperative at this time. I have not added fluid and attempted to bleed them yet, but most likely will need rebuilt. Tires are junk. Kart is pretty complete (no head rest pad), but will need restored to be made race ready. I took this in on trade and just have not had any time to spend on it. Other projects are more pressing so I am selling for basically the value of the very desirable TZ250 motor.
