  1. http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-lhpU2Z0uNcM/Uz7K7QN4LeI/AAAAAAABwh0/WtcdxdeFLYc/s1600/usa_car_51.jpg AH the change in cars and so much else.... He/She wouldn't even get a second glance today....
  2. I was at an SCCA Socializer many years ago at Red Roof Inn HQ (we used to have a February "Bench Racing" socializer). In attendance was "the" Bob Johnson that used to drive Cobra's for Shelby. Bob lived in Columbus and owned Johnson's catering. Bob told the story that after the 1965(?) season, Shelby took the Daytona Coupes to Bonneville to set some land speed records. Afterwards he was offered two of the cars with trailers and spares for $5000 (or some such sum - still significant money in the '60's) but passed on the opportunity because no one wanted a couple of used of aluminum race cars covered with salt! And I wish I had kept some of my cars I have when I was younger - ha! Great pics!
  3. Any success? Would a 20' be of any interest.... Don't have one for sale yet, but may have a deal....
  4. The white one is not a turbo (YET!) :zoom:
  5. How long before the "red tub" leaves? Just in case someone needs a really nice rear clip (sawzall is waiting to be exercised!!)
  6. No cell service over the ocean - hours of flight time to search/confiscate devices - probably not much cell service in the desert. Still lots of holes in the scenario, not the least of which is having talented enough pilots to "take over" the plane intact, navigate and land...
  7. Hell, I'll weigh in here just like everyone else. While more likely than not something catastrophic happened and it's in the ocean somewhere (it's a big place!). I will say I doubt we are getting all the facts, period. Too many stories have popped up and been squashed adding to the confusion. My concern is the "it's on the ground somewhere and likely to be used for no good". Consider the "facts" that have come out. Two stolen passports used by what we were told (at least in one story) by Iranian men not on any terror list. Have they checked to see if they had flight training somewhere? Under yet a different name? If you were going to attempt this would you use someone already on a watch list? Did they learn from 9/11 to get BETTER training? Iran is within the planes range, could be flown to over water (oh, and Malaysia said the military tracked the plane turning back over Malaysia heading east - wait no, they then said they never said that, unless they did????). Iran also vast areas of nothing - and LOTS of airports in desolate places. I would hop we have people looking there and other sympathetic terrorist states for a large jet on the ground (though wouldn't you just put it in a hangar?) If they're terrorists, kill everyone on board (or save as hostages for later), load plane with nuke / dirty nuke / explosives, depart over water, fly low to target and detonate. They now have learned the plane can't be detected well. Far fetched - sure is, but so was 9/11 - till it happened. I will gladly be wrong on either count for a good outcome, but I just don't see it...
  8. As I understand it - and the zoning folks explained it, you can only have one garage not to exceed 720 sq ft in the city of Columbus without a variance - and they don't give variances for garages anymore. In my case, I have an oversized 2 car attached garage. I am considering building a 24 deep x 30 wide "3 car" - though it would likely have one double wide overhead door and the third "bay" would be off to the side for storage. My old attached garage would have to be closed off from the driveway so as not to be used as a garage. This would have to be done to get all the permits/inspections closed out. My attached garage has an outside door (man door) that opens onto a patio. I would likely remove it, open up the wall and install a steel double door that would allow larger items to be rolled inside to be worked on. Technically, no garage door=no garage, no driveway access=no garage. I would retain the space as "shop space" - it is already drywalled. I have not had this discussion with any zoning folks - depending on their mood, it could be an issue - or not. If I move forward, that is my "plan" - some other options have possibly come to light and I am seeing how they play our before doing anything else.
  9. Yea, watch the "new trailer" specs carefully (used ones as well). 2 x #3500 axles = #7000 capacity. If the trailer weighs #3500-#4000 it doesn't leave much carrying capacity once you get the car in it! Also on a few "cheapies" you may find leaf springs instead of torsion axles. That can be OK, but is not near as nice as the torsion design - and it still may have the lighter axles. After a lot of shopping around, I bought my used 20' - it had #5200 torsion axles and ample weight capacity to safely haul the car, tools & spares
  10. Bumpity... Now on CL here: http://columbus.craigslist.org/cto/4355485953.html with some better pics and a couple of shots of the spare parts piles... Make an offer, CR price of $750 OBO still stands - delivery MAY be possible as well.
  11. Must be a defective gene somewhere.... I've had three over the years - still think they are cool... Now if only we got the Cosworth AWD Sierra that Europe got....
  12. Let me see, 911 with weird handling with large alloy flat six hanging out behind the rear axle.... Remove large alloy flat six and add cast iron V8 behind rear axle.... Sounds like a recipe for going ass backwards into something real fast. Also noted it WAS $26K in the video - now bids starting at $18.9K
  13. If this... The worksheet at the bottom is just that, a worksheet. As a single person he will probably either want to file "Single, no exemptions" - more tax withheld, bigger refund (hopefully) at year end, or "Single, 1 exemption" (himself) - less tax withheld, smaller refund (hopefully) at year end. The top part is all that needs to be filled out and returned. The worksheet is just for his use to figure out what he CAN do.
  14. Gun is gone, but I found a 50 round box of 7.62x25 Tokarev ammo. 85 gr FMJ by Lellier & Bellot, brass case, non-corrosive. Asking $30.00 or trade for 50 rounds of .357 Magnum
  15. Our sales guys have had Equinox's since the current platform came out in 2010. The 2.4L 4 cyl had issues the first year prompting a "secret" memo about free inspection/replacement for "excessive oil use". One year issue only. Or guys regularly drove these things 120K-150K in three years with little more than oil changes and a set of tires. Good gas mileage (26+ mpg - granted mostly highway), but they were comfortable and quiet enough.
  16. Always cool when Columbus RACING actually gets a new member that RACES! Welcome aboard.
  17. Update: Car "runs on spray" - we were able to run the car for a bit on starting fluid. Motor seems sound as far as no knocking or huge plumes of smoke. Oil pressure is decent on old oil and filter (not changed yet). Injectors are either plugged of bad - not enough time to pull them and clean/check them this past weekend. Make an offer... Photos now here:
  18. Yes it is! http://www.imsa.com/fox-network-leads-live-coverage-rolex-24-daytona-across-multiple-platforms
  19. My first thought was this is BS. After reading the article, I still don't think he should have to pay, but I see the state's point. 1) If you can't support them, don't breed them - shame on the "couple" for having a child they can't support and want/take state money to have their family. 2) Without the law if the state goes after a "baby's daddy" to get them to pay for the child they helped bring into the world - what's to keep them and a sympathetic "baby momma" from saying "it was artificial insemination and I have some papers to prove it"? 3) As a taxpayer, I'm all for getting folks to be responsible for their actions. My take after thinking about it. Governments are hard up for cash (according to them - largely due to stupid spending, not because they don't collect enough taxes) and are making an example of this guy.
  20. Yep - the Lemons thing less all the "sideshow shit" could have been that way. I still prefer endurance racing over sprints - having been involved in IMSA GTU, Escort/Playboy series and far too many (or not near enough?) of "The Longest Day" events - for me, nothing else really compares. I don't know if I have it in me to organize another effort, but I would be willing to serve in an advisory/driver role for a team if they were interested....
  21. Sounds like some '60's/'70's hippies trying a new "semi-capitalism" based commune model. Those over 50 will remember, those over 65 who "experienced the '60's may not....
  22. I helped run a Lemons effort a few years back - but want to try Chump. Seems to be more about the racing - less about a "show". I also have a Fire Arrow that would be a prime time Chump...if only I had more time and space....
