  1. i'd have to agree. still, i'll be looking at condo's in sarasota this january when i go there. we've got -25 windchill and a foot of snow on the ground here in wisconsin bitches. won't see the grass again until march. i lived in tampa 3 years ago for a year. the summer is absolutely intolerable---hot, humid, rains every single day. you cannot stop sweating. you need an automatic starter to get the a/c running before you get into the car. no basement to store things means people store everything in their garage and park in the driveway. i had some stuff stored in the attic and random plastic items had actually melted. people are rude as shit, plain and simple. the neighborhood where we rented (gated community, nice houses) had well over 100 houses in foreclosure when we left. thank GOD i didn't buy a house for the year i was there. i won't mention anything about the mexican-americans who outnumber english speaking americans. but you had better be able to either speak/understand spanish, or not get annoyed with everyone around you speaking it. sure, plenty of hot women there. great place to vacation, but not a good place to live if you ask me, and i lived in one of the better cities in fla.
  2. darwin must have had the day off on that one. crazy always loved this jump---totally nuts. can't imagine if the car lost it.

    mpg

My gto averaged 27.4 recently on a trip to Chicago. Couldn't believe it.
  4. As stated above, there's a huge difference. None of those guys wore #23 and called themselves the king. Lebron wants to be known as the best player in the game, he wants to be mj. When you think of all those bulls championships you think of Jordan, not pippen.
  5. fuck lebron. the heat will NOT win a championship this year or next---count on it. and even if he does win a championship with the heat it will be wade's team that lebron 'tagged along' with. he had every opportunity in cleveland to win and make it his team, and his championship, his legacy---but he quit, failed, jumped ship, etc. his decision will live with him for the rest of his career, and will definitely hurt him in the long run. i'm not even a cavs fan
  6. again, you're throwing out stupid ideas when you have absolutely no clue about health care in the united states, patterns of utilization, etc. you assume that there will only be a slight increase in health care visits but you really have no idea how people utilize medicine in the US. you assume that all these uninsured patients will only see a doctor every 3-4 years like you??? no, these are the people who (as sad as it is to say this) don't take care of themselves, eat too much, drink too much, don't have proper hygiene, do insanely dumb things to injure themselves (shooting, DUI's, etc), and basically would be 'killed off' aka darwinism, if it wasn't for the fact that emergency rooms cannot turn patients away----you need a reality check. i suggest you walk your fairy ass into the emergency department at mt. carmel west, or grant hospital in the middle of a weekday and see for yourself. these people would see their new, obama-supplied family doctor at least once a week, asking for pain medication. you can't even begin to talk about health care reform in the US without first tackling tort reform. rising malpractice insurance, and frivolous lawsuits have literally shut down practices all across the US because people cannot afford to practice medicine. the new health care bill says nothing about that. in fact, everything in medicine these days is aimed at raising patient expectations to unrealistic levels---medicare refusing to reimburse hospitals for readmissions after patients have an "accepted" complication from a procedure. you can't even begin to imagine how many tests are ordered in medicine that are simply ordered to 'cover your ass' and protect against lawsuits. i don't have a plan to tackle health care reform, but i can recognize the current plan is shit. i just know that when the shit hits the fan, and people are fed up with gov't insurance telling them they cannot have their knee replacement until they wear a brace for a year, do 6 months physical therapy, and lose 50lbs----i will be more than willing to put my expertise to work for them in my privately run, cash-only clinic. people go into medicine because it IS gratifying to help people, mainly when they are grateful for your help. it is not gratifying to baby sit people with bullshit-fake problems who are only looking for a way to sue you. that is why the average career for an ER physician is not nearly as long as it is for other fields of medicine. it is also a career where traditionally, you can make a very good living---that is expected, and deserved for the stress that comes with knowing peoples' lives are constantly in your hands, taking call every 4th night for 30 years being called to the hospital at 3am for an emergency, and spending 10 years after college learning how to treat every disease known to man. you cannot incentivize people to go into the field by telling them you will forgive $100k of their student loans. you CAN incentivize them by assuring them you will not cut $50k of their salary every year over a 30 year career. or that all malpractice suits must be tried in front of a commitee of neutral health care experts to determine if they're even valid lawsuits, while limiting the maximum payoff from these lawsuits. or assuring them you will let them practice medicine their way---not allowing insurance companies to reimburse them as they see fit for certain things, but not others.
  7. you're basically a clueless fucking idiot. all the freeloading non-workers out there with nothing better to do but constantly go to the doctor's office with every minor complaint will clog up the system for hardworking people who are not constantly looking for obama's handout. i've seen this in my private practice, as i work for a hospital that offers care to patients without insurance. what that will lead to is an extremely long wait to get into a physician's office. so everyone gets healthcare---hooray!! you just might have to wait a couple years, and jump through ridiculous hoops if you need a surgery done. not to mention, any doctor with a brain will likely move to a cash-only practice that does not accept the government plan. so enjoy getting cared for by the 'b' team. feel free to exit the health care discussion. asshole.
  8. shit, its probably not worth $50. i'm just saying you can probably buy a comparable laptop brand new with better features than what mine originally came with for less than $400.
  9. i've got to get some good 15" wheels and tires, and skinnies up front. don't know what the car will dyno with the auto, but it will likely be around 550-560rwhp. the front suspension is completely stock at this point. i'm just shooting for 10's first. the torque converter is apparently custom built by tci for the car, and has a 3000 stall. the auto is their street fighter version, good for 750hp. the biggest issue with getting the car to run fast will be the driver experience--just saying.

    New to CR

just leave it the way it is. welcome to the site
  11. physician reimbursement through medicare has steadily declined since the '80s---and with obama's new plan, they've already slated an 5% decrease in reimbursement by 2010.
  12. one of the shift keys has been gone for over a year, and the screen does not stay completely up---3 kids who like to stand on it and jump on it. it cost $1500 brand new when i bought it---i'm sure a comparable new one today likely cost $400 or so, probably less than that.
  13. Box choice depends on if you're a pro mechanic or not. For the occasional mechanic, I'll swear by my 36" wide 7 drawer craftsman professional. Great quality, I've had it for 4 years and it's still completely new. Holds plenty of tools, and is plenty solid. Cost around $1000 new. If you want a cheaper one, menards boxes are fine, ive had a 36" wide one for two years in my smaller garage. I also have a walmart one that is fairly large but clearly poorer construction. Don't waste money on anything more than that unless you're a mechanic for a living, or take your tools to show off at car shows
  14. awesome write up. let me know if you make it to road america this summer---i live about 30 minutes away, and wouldn't mind watching if i can get away.
  15. we have a sony cybershot that cost around that much---great camera, very simple to use, and we use it for the exact same purpose you do. we also have a 'flip video' recorder that i would highly, highly recommend. makes taking quick videos of the kids very easy, and you can email them to your family/friends with incredible ease, as it has a built-in jump drive and is insanely easy to use
  16. whipple's still in the car---can't decide if i want a bigger blower, or what. i will likely maximize the suspension mods, weight management, and shoot for 10's this summer, which should be easily attainable. i've been thoroughly happy with the whipple though--its been at 590 rwhp at 17psi for over 3 years and 9k miles. i'd recommend the 2.3 whipple, or 2.6 kb for anyone looking for a fun street car around 600rwhp with mild/moderate boost. these blowers max out aroun 650rwhp, but you'll need over 20psi, and better gas to get there. i'd love to turn my '85GT into a modular fox with a cobra motor. i already have the IRS and t56.
  17. oddly, the t56 in my cobra shifts easier than the 6speed in my vette, which shifts much easier than the t56 in my GTO. i have an MGW shifter in the cobra, with a firewall adjustable cable/quadrant. the vette has an MGW shifter. GTO has a GMM ripshifter with a 'lou's short stick' handle. none shift perfect, but for some reason the cobra shifts best. car is being dropped off to go auto this week, and the t56 is going in my '85.
  18. lol for my shitty dell laptop that 's 6 years old. i've had the 'my security shield' virus on it for about 6 months and am too lazy to get it fixed---will just trash it and buy another.
  19. +1 college, like most things, is what you make of it. you can have endless opportunities at a school like OSU, for example. sure, its not a harvard, but i went to OSU with plenty of people who went to harvard/brown/unniv. of penn/etc for their undergrad degrees and i wasn't overly impressed. hard work is 90% of college---showing up to class, studying, and taking the time to talk with professors to make connections. helped me get scholarships in undergrad, got me into medical school, and the specialty of my choice at the hospital that i wanted to go to. its not being lucky, or gifted, etc.--just hard work. while the public school system might be a joke---colleges in america are not.
  20. there is no prevention of hip and knee arthritis--no way to reverse the damage or prevent it--other than to lose weight--which is not a problem with medicine, its a problem of human nature that will not be corrected with medicine. obama's plan is very much against creating more specialists in medicine--its a well-known fact. they are offering loan forgiveness for medical school if you go into primary care. what i am arguing is not very hard to follow: 1--there is a projected massive increase in hip/knee arthritis over the next 10-20 years (we're already seeing it). not only an increase in the number of first time procedures, but revision procedures (which you need extra training, which i have, to do) 2--obama wants to limit the number of people who go into these specialties (and many others). how can he do this?--the government has direct control over how much money they give to hospitals to train physicians in different specialties. thus, they just say, "we're not giving hospitals money to train specialty X anymore" 3--you will see a shortage of physicians trained to do these procedures, AS WELL AS specific criteria that have to be met before the physician will be reimbursed for the surgery itself. these criteria will likely be ridiculous---such as 16 weeks of physical therapy (which does not help severe arthritis), or not allowing people above a certain weight to get the surgery, or documented attempts at physician-guided weight loss--some private insurance companies already do shit like this. basically, people will be so fed up that they will gladly pay out of pocket for health care, and physicians will get so fed up that they will not participate in these health care plans
  21. tim has handled much of the argument on the health care reform bill, which will directly decrease medicare reimbursement effective immediately--so yes, i will immediately be paid less money. obama wants to limit specialization in medicine, which means less people like me (who do hip and knee replacements). all this, when the projected number of knee replacements needed in the next 20 years is slated to increase 7 fold. do the math---that means that the gov't will withhold surgery to many of these patients---there will be huge, huge waits for this surgery (just one example). what that means to your parents with arthritis, is that they will have to wait 2-3 years---or pay me cash when i stop participating in insurance plans--many have already started doing this. there are so many other flaws to critique, i've only chosen one tiny aspect that directly affects me. and i'd say i pay at least 35% taxes.
  22. i have 3 year old twins who will routinely take something out of their mouth that they don't like, and put it back into whatever container it came out of--- one also starting wiping boogers on the wall, and her 18month old brother.
  23. can't see the pics, but my '85GT has explorer heads, and ecam, and laid down 274rwhp-- considering the stock ones with crappy '85 heads probably laid down 170-ish rwhp, 105rwhp above stock isn't too bad.
  24. how about this---- obama (gov't) takes half of my hard earned money, and redistributes it to people who don't deserve it. obama pushed a bill through that directly affects what i do for a living---pushing me to work harder for less money i'd say that's just cause to have a strong dislike for someone, wouldn't you??
