  1. Ah, so you're the reason that I have to tell people their policy went up when they sold their second vehicle because they lost the multi-car discount :gabe:.
  2. Yes, an agent has to be licensed for insurance sales in the state, so they are able to suggest to you what coverages you should carry based on your assets. The simplest way to look at it is to carry enough liability coverage to protect your assets. If you carry state minimum and cause $100k of bodily injury to someone in an accident, they can and will sue you for the majority of that cost and the first thing they will go after is your home. A good agent can walk through this in more detail with you. Once you know what you need to carry, the rest is just comparing different companies. Find a company with a comparably low rate and what you feel is good customer service (be it through the agent or directly through the company) and go from there. Find one you like because the longer you stay with one company, the more stable your rate will generally be. You also get things like accident forgiveness or violation forgiveness with most companies, but it takes a few years of being with them to see those benefits, so don't jump around every year just because someone else came back $20 lower per year. I'm not licensed yet so I can't go and tell you what to carry, but it is never a bad idea to carry more liability than what you need. A coworker of mine just had a neck surgery that would've ran her over $100,000 w/o health insurance. Just remember that this is something you could do to someone in a bad accident, and you don't want to be sued for $80,000 because you saved a few bucks carrying low liability limits.
  3. A pretty costly ticket, both in price and how it affects your insurance (assuming you got insurance after getting a ticket for not having it, can affect your rate as much as an at fault accident). In some cases you might be required to carry an SR-22 with your car insurance too which can hurt you for up to 3 years.
  4. I've had mine for about a month, and I'd say it's absolutely worth it for the price. Obviously does all the e-reader stuff, but you can also use it for playing games, browsing or watching videos. Only downside is the Amazon software that they use to skin the Android underneath, but I think people have rooted them already. For $200, you can't go wrong. Best Buy also has them out to try and weren't in demo mode when I was there.
  5. This is as dumb as the people who called you back.
  6. You have 30 days to add the vehicle effective the day you got it, but you must already have a policy, that policy must be able to insure a Lamborghini (not all personal policies will), and whatever car he had insured needs to have full coverage in order for him to be covered on damages when he gets around to adding it. If you have a junker at just liability, then add a new car 20 days after you buy it and want full coverage, the full coverage itself is only effective the day you call to add it. If you got in an accident in those 20 days and need to fix your vehicle, you're SOL.
  7. You can't walk in to a store here without seeing some. Guess they got smart this year and kept more of the supply local, compared to last year when they spread it out a little too thin. I'll be drinking Christmas Ales through February at this rate. Check out 12 Dogs of Christmas Ale if you can find some, as good (if not better) than GL but has a higher alcohol content.
  8. Christ, I don't think you guys really have a problem with Facebook. It sounds more like you all just have absolutely shit friends and family members who are terrible people, and that carries over to Facebook.
  9. Didn't even think about people who have handheld GPS systems. I'm sure Garmin and Tom-Tom will have something to say about this.
  10. I got the most use out of it while in college. It can come in handy for group projects, party invites, asking classmates about material, and so on. I can say that now that I've graduated and gotten a job I use it much less, as the people I want to contact are people I see at least a couple times per week. I think it loses a lot of appeal as people age.
  11. My only issue with it is the broadness of the ban. I use my phone to stream music and play through my car. I generally set a station up before I leave the driveway, and won't fiddle with it while I'm driving. While this is no different, and in many ways better than someone flipping through radio stations while driving, this ban seems broad enough that it could affect something like this. Of course, even if the ban passes I'm still going to do the same thing.
  12. Maybe this varies company to company. I'm almost sure that uninsured motorist bodily injury covers most hit and run situations for hospital costs and surgery, but I'll have to double check on UMPD for damage to the car specifically. Like I said, this is how it is where I work but coverage can vary slightly from company to company, and state to state. For example, in many states you can carry both collision coverage and UMPD. In Ohio though, we offer either UMPD or collision coverage, but you can't carry both at the same time here.
  13. Nice purchase, my dad picked one up the same day I bought his MS3 from him. He got a hell of a deal, 28k miles for $14k. Came with some aftermarket goodies already too. You're going to really appreciate that hardtop this winter though, I had one on my 91 and it was a lifesaver. I would highly recommend looking into snow tires though if you are driving it through the winter. Post some updated pics next year when you get the new wheels too.
  14. This is not always the case. Uninsured Motorist Property Damage will take care of the damage to your car if someone without insurance hits it, and usually will carry a very low deductible (between $200 and $300 is what I usually see). In most states it's a very cheap coverage to have. The general rule of thumb is that if you know you would not bother fixing the car if it were totaled out, then there isn't much point in carrying full coverage. If anything, keep comprehensive on at a high deductible but with a $0 glass deductible. UMPD will often cover hit and run incidents as well, but it's something to check with your company.
  15. No, each day they will have a different set of 10 apps.
  16. Meh, watching the video makes it sound like she at least understands why. I'd be annoyed if she were sitting their complaining and bitching up a storm, but she's just kind of like "well... I didn't pay, my trailer burnt down, wish I could've gotten my stuff out." I deal with the general public every day and it is mainly three states: Minnesota, Indiana and Tennessee. Sometimes I wonder how people in Tennessee even complete simple tasks in their daily lives.
  17. I get that, I mean the car is a 2008 and it just hit 60,000 miles. Their main reason was I've only been at my job since February and only had a credit card for about a year now. I've never carried a balance and always pay everything (credit card, loans or otherwise) on time and also had my checking account through them since I was 17. Not angry that Chase wouldn't give me one I guess, I would rather give my business to a locally owned credit union the more I think about it.
  18. Was it stolen in Reynoldsburg?
  19. HEY IT'S BEEN 3 MINUTES WHY YOU NO RESPOND
  20. 1. I don't own a race car. 2. You can win races and still be an idiot. Look at 20 percent of the people on this site. 3. I heard if you even drive through Reynoldsburg you automatically leave with a drug addiction and a cripplingly low level of intelligence.
  21. Is this guy a troll or just an idiot? After reviewing the thread, I'm split 50/50.
  22. My parents are in the same boat. They've got a 99 model that only has about 130k on it, but I can feel that the tranny isn't in the best shape, and things are starting to break more frequently. If you do sell it, I'd be interested to know what you get for it. If you are set on getting a loan though, try local credit unions. I tried Chase for my first ever car loan (23 years old, short but good credit history, and some student loan debt still) and they flat out said no. Went to a local credit union that I've never done business with, and in 3 days they approved me for $10k at 3.9%. Credit unions seem to be more willing to take a little risk than banks.
  23. I can't imagine any possible cirumstance where I would want to eat that up.
