Buck, I feel for you man. I lost both my parents to Parkinsons as well as 2 uncles. I have another uncle with it and possibly now a cousin who is only a few years older than myself. He is having neurological tests to diagnose it now. Don't be too hard on yourself about depression. It's natural in a situation like this. When my mother passed it had been a LONG battle and had been years since she was functional as a human. We had said our goodbyes long ago, but it was still very tough. My sister and I had our father to lean on, but he was fighting parkinsons himself at that point. When dad passed away a few years back it was a surprise. He ended up catching a cold and it got to his lungs and pneumonia was the final cause of death. I held things together for at least a week to get through the funeral and family stuff, but I did slip into some depression afterward. The grieving process is natural, let it happen, people will understand.

Sounds like I need to swing by and take a sit down.

Some good thoughts there. I doubt I'll ever see even close to 200mph. When I do try the mile though I will break 135 and don't want to get booted. I think I would reasonably expect 160 or so as a long term goal. As far as 1/4 mile goal would be in the low 10 second range. Since my car is a 6 speed that's a little tougher without the driver mod. For my frame I'm pretty big right now, 5'7" and 220lbs. A personal goal I have for myself is to get down to 180 and stay there. I can do it, I just have to put my mind to it. Something a little tough to get in and out of doesn't bother me. Once the roll bar goes in the car will be tough to get in and out of anyhow. I also don't mind loosing the seat hinge. The roll bar will pretty much make the back seat inaccessible, so I plan on loosing it in the process. The car will never again be a daily driver. My current plan is to convert to E85, so that will probably cut the range of the car considerably. My thought would be that I would not be driving the car more than 100 miles at a time. I'll make a trip up to Jegs and see what they have on display. I'll look into the Corbeaus as well, thanks Erik.

I think it's time. With the Procharger going into the car we decided the roll bar should go in as well. I'd like to take the car down to Wilmington and try my hand at the mile as well as the drag strip. I don't want to be limited to 135, so the roll bar is a done deal. If I'm going that far it makes sense to me to switch out the seats as well and add harnesses. Car is a 95 Camaro that is primarily street driven. I'm not going to say cost isn't an issue, but I want something that is reasonably comfortable for at least an hour at a time. I know I'm going to have to spend some money on this. I was thinking about the Kirkey aluminum seats with pads, those are definitely in my price range. Anyone know how comfortable those are? What recommendations does anyone have?

Wow that sucks.

LT1 engines have a major habit of shitting out aftermarket Optisparks. I wish you luck with your project, but if you do your research you'll see most people recommend an OEM unit.

Beautiful car. I want to see it when yours is done and you line up with Dan (TurboNova). With 4 daughters are you sure you want to be moving into Columbus City Schools? Might be worth poking your nose around and finding out which school they would be attending and what the record is at the school.

That could be a pretty decent vacuum leak, but I wouldn't think it would be enough to stall a running engine. There should be 2 tubes for the Opti, one that runs to the intake manifold, and one that runs to a port on the intake tube somewhere.

If you can afford it I would replace the whole thing with an OEM unit. If you can't then an OEM cap and rotor would be my second choice. It won't be cheap either way. Easiest and biggest mistake you can make is to forget the little water pump drive shaft when you put everything back together. There is a spline drive shaft coming out of the block for the water pump. There is a matching spline drive shaft coming out the back of the pump. Between them needs to be a short metal sleeve with reverse splines to connect them. If you forget that the water pump will not turn and you'll have to pull it back off to correct the problem. You will need a puller to get the crank pulley off the hub adapter. I think I used a medium sized 3 jaw the last time I had mine off. When you put it back on I think the bolts are long enough to pull it back on. Just get each one started and turn each one a little at a time to get it back on straight. Leave the hub adapter on the crank, that one is a pain in the ass to deal with. 3 bolts out and use the puller to get the pulley off. It's press fit, but not awful. If you're getting frustrated remember you have an F-body. If it was a vette there would be a frame cross brace 2 inches in front of the pulley and you would be hammering on the pulley to get it off instead of using a puller. If you do the cap and rotor you will need a funky little reverse torx head screwdriver to get the 4 tiny little bolts out that hold the cap to the body. With my Impala we broke at least 2 of them off. They have been in there a long time and may seized. In fact I think GM might have lock-tighted them in place. If you do you can drill them out and I used some long screws and nylon locking nuts from the hobby shop. If you have headers or are thinking about it for the future, this would be a good time to switch to over the valve cover plug wires. The stock routing location behind the exhaust manifolds sucks to replace the wires. Make sure to secure them tightly otherwise you'll have to replace wires again when they make contact with the manifold and burn through. Message me if anything comes up, I'll see what I can dig out to help. Make sure to read the writeup on shbox.com He has nothing but great information on that site. The job sucks, but is very doable.

We don't order from anywhere else any more. Don Gino's rocks.

GM changed from the unvented to the vented style optispark I think in 95. So the 97 would absolutely need a vented style replacement. MSD does make a billet optispark that seems like it would be the best think on earth, but a lot of us LT1 owners think they are junk. I have one on the Camaro, but if it dies I'm going to replace it with an OEM unit. The first MSD only lasted about a year, then crapped out on me 2 days before a track rental. The second seems to be holding up. The ICM mounting bracket I think is just that, a mounting bracket. I don't remember any metal showing around the mounting holes where the bolts might make metal to metal contact for a ground. I do remember some ground wires on the harness right there running to the ICM bracket for a ground though. One simple upgrade is to put a couple washers behind the ICM bracket so that it stands out from the head just a little and keeps some of the heat from the head from cooking the ICM. Just a slight bit of airflow behind the ICM should make a big difference in heat transfer. A REALLY good source of information is Shoe box's website. http://shbox.com/1/4th_gen_tech1.html

Swapping the Opti is not the easiest thing to do, but it really isn't that bad with the right tools. There are hundreds of write ups on the internet on how to replace it. The big thing is to get a quality part since replacing it again would really suck. I don't have any ideas for you on troubleshooting it. If you see bad grounds though, I would fix those. Like you said, the CPS and the Opti are the only parts still there. I would try a crank position sensor first though. The problem you are describing was exactly the same problem I had with a different car and turned out to be the CPS. It threw a code 1 time out of 100 attempts to restart. While you are tearing stuff apart though a tuneup and swap the water pump might be in order if they are original parts. They will fail eventually.

My girlfriend is in the process of going back to college. She started back in the 90s, but kids and life got in the way and she never finished. Her situation is not that different than yours. Apply online to Columbus State. That will be your most economical option. It's also a flexible option because their credits will transfer. If you start off at ITT or Devry those credits will not transfer anywhere typically. Once you have applied you will be accepted conditionally. As stated before you will need to have transcripts sent from you high school. Do not bother hand carrying the transcripts, they will not be accepted if you have come into contact with them. You will most likely have to take the COMPASS test, which is the placement test used at many community colleges in this area. You might do yourself a favor and see if you can get a sample test. When you go to your old highschool for the transcripts, if you ask nicely they counselors might have an extra lying around. If you want to get in for Spring semester you may still have time, but you need to get things moving as quickly as possible. I recommend hitting this hard and getting things started now. You have gotten yourself in the mind set to do this, if you put it off till summer or even next fall you may not follow through with it.

+1 for crutchfield. Picked up a head unit for the Civic. Got a great deal and once I picked out the unit their website automatically added the wiring harness and dash adapter to my cart. All with free shipping, less than $100 total. I couldn't get it any cheaper on Amazon.

They weren't ray guns. They were simple revolvers that fire slugs. Most of the weapons are traditional style. You're missing out if you don't watch the series. Easily one of my all time favorites. In fact I had both the series and movie on DVD and recently rebought them on Blu-ray. The movie only gets better when you know the back story.

I also just sent a paypal donation. -
Performance has never taken more than a week to get work back to me. I had my intake and valve covers done there. I liked the job so much I took my strut tower brace and my front calipers there too. Oh, and I misread his initial post too. He did say "the right way" and not "right away". I really don't think you can go wrong with Performance.

I would use Performance Powdercoating on James Rd.

Even a cashiers check can be forged these days. Cash, or wait till the check clears to transfer title and hand over the keys. You can give them a receipt if they are worried about being scammed themselves.

Shit, I'd buy in right now, pay cash, whatever. I live in an area of Franklin county that was developed in the 60s. We only had Adelphia cable available, so most of us went DirecTV. TW has since rolled out digital cable to us, but no available bandwidth for RoadRunner. So I pay roughly $60 a month for a 4G hotspot that I run my home internet on.

What brand is it? I know someone looking for an Anheiser Busch keg for a project.

+1 for Pickups Plus. I paid a little extra for a 2-way remote system.

My apple pie recipe is a little different 2 gallons apple cider 1 gallon apple juice 1/2 cup brown sugar Boil that for an hour to cook off some of the water and concentrate the flavors Cool, and add 3 quarts of 150ish proof alcohol Bottle it in 1 quart mason jars with a cinnamon stick in each Let the jars sit for 3 or 4 days before drinking, the longer the better.
