  1. That era bike is also legal for V7 racing with WERA. While their bikes are going to be completely tricked out in some cases, you should be able to get cheap parts and free setup advice from them. There is a guy named lance who has won a bunch of vintage races on his Kawasaki. He seems like a good guy. PM me if you want help finding him on the WERA board.
  2. I know there is a stiffer detent spring kit out there for the 100's, but I have no idea if that's an issue on the 650's. Whatever it is, it's just a big single. Can't be THAT hard to fix once you determine which part is faulty, and you have all winter. Stay calm ????
  3. You shifting like you mean it?
  4. In perfect shape, I saw it for $450. I also found a guy selling one for $250 though. I couldn't sell it. My only real concern now is that the old ammo that went through it may have corroded some things. We'll see. I will ask the firearms expert at our crime lab to inspect and test fire it off the clock some day soon.
  5. Shit! I was way off. It's a model 341, made from 1936-1940. Tube-fed and will fire 22 short, 22 long, or 22lr. If only it could handle 22 magnums. Still, for free, it seems pretty sweet - and this is the closest thing I have to an heirloom.
  6. I suppose it could be older than I'm assuming...
  7. My dad just texted me and said my mom's dad said I can have his old 22 rifle. All he knows is that it's a Remington bolt-action 22. I am guessing 60's or 70's because it belongs to my grandpa. Anyone know what model it's likely to be?
  8. I realize that "MotoBot" is as much a marketing gimmick as an actual experiment, but it will be limited by using human controls. Build a completely contained autonomous 2-wheeled vehicle, and watch it set track records within a couple years... Computers can "learn" enough to react to most on-track situations appropriately after a few attempts. What they lack is judgment for variables that they haven't previously encountered. Alone on a dry track, the robot should do great. Add in weather conditions, other riders, etc., and then the computer has to strategize. That's a lot harder task.
  9. Intent is different than motive. I think "hate crimes" are bullshit too.
  10. you could either remove the front wheel, or put a small car jack under the wheel to hold a portion of the weight - i have never been concerned enough to do either. If i removed the wheel, it would be to keep my tires indoors for the winter.
  11. Then i disagree with the FBI's definition. Isn't the definition inconsequential though? The action remains the only thing you can prevent, react to, or punish.
  12. a purpose-made triple-clamp stand is a great tool to have. Keeps weight off the suspension adn allows for fork removal as well. T-Rex makes a decent one for a good price.
  13. the news is killing me with this story. "we can't confirm yet that this is an act of terror." Really? What hte fuck else would you call it? I don't care if it's a disgruntled employee or an ISIS sleeper cell. I don't care if it's a white christian, or a brown muslim. When did "terrorism" stop being an action, and become a motive? We cannot detect and punish motivations. We can react appropriately to unacceptable actions. The problem is that we can't seem to agree on what an appropriate reaction is. I had to get off Facebook to avoid engaging the people trying to make this into a gun debate. I don't know anyone who thinks that unprovoked violence is acceptable. The need to insert the word "gun" in front of "violence" seems superfluous.
  14. i tried to edit, but missed my window... EVERY tire, even a qualifying slick, has a finite amount of grip. Eventually, you WILL approach and or exceed that limit. The skill you want to acquire is feeling that limit approaching. You can do that on street tires, and that is what's important. Transitioning to better tires on a newer bike will not be nearly as hard as learning to interpret what the bike and tires are telling you.
  15. I was in a similar position a few years ago, except a bit further along in the process: I had a '97 EX500 (17" wheels, but obviously never designed as a sport bike), and even in 17" wheels, there aren't a ton of good tire options in that narrow of a size. But i digress - Take your bike out and burn through at least 1 set of Sport Demons. Just be aware, YOU ARE GOING TO GET FRUSTRATED with the fact that you're down on power, and possibly down on grip compared to other people in your group. Learning to ride well even with those limitations is an awesome skill to have ...if you can swallow your pride long enough to do it. I went through a bike a year ('97 EX500, '93 F2, 03' 600RR) before realizing that I had more room for improvement than the bike.
  16. i out-kicked my coverage on the wife. No complaints.
  17. Uh oh, i'm barely 6' and my wife is pushing 5'10" I don't know if that makes me a "tall guy," but my wife is definitely fertile. We knocked out the whole baby-making thing in less than a month.
  18. i think she's lucky to have avoided jail time. Not surprised they lost on the B&E, but the jury got that wrong. B&E requires intent to commit a felony or theft offense. No doubt she didn't realize that vandalizing a county office was a felony, but she intended to perform the act.
  19. Timing chain through at least 2008 I believe. My next one will be an XRS with the celica GTS engine I hope.
  20. I spent some time on corollaforums.com trying to troubleshoot a thermostat issue. (Not on your generation Corolla) 165k is just getting started on these cars. I really would buy this one if I could justify it.
  21. That is the CE model. crank windows and lack of cruise are really the only things it doesn't have. Mine is the same trim level, and i have power locks... The CE also gets black mirrors and accent trim, whereas the others get body-colored parts. the "S" model loses fold-down rear seats, because there's a frame brace back there (you know, because that makes it Sporty, and is totally worth losing the utility of fold-down rear seats) They're all mechanically identical. In all honesty, the CE could probably be made to be the sportiest of the 3, because i'm guessing it weighs less than the "S" model with a bunch of standard electronics weighing it down...
  22. This is going to be a question answered almost purely opinion and cost.... I'm sure they have different riding characteristics just like an R6 is different than a 600RR when you sit on them, and where they make the most power, etc. - but as far as capability, both are going to be so close that it's completely negligible. We live in a spoiled era. Each manufacturer makes multiple bikes that are better than we are. Choose the brand you like better, or the bike that feels better, and just buy that one. Who cares that the Honda has 150hp instead of 165hp... I would honestly do yourself a favor and try to forget everything you've read about both bikes and make a judgment based on test riding them both. If that's not possible, buy whichever one is cheaper. Definitely test another naked bike before buying one though. prolonged highway wind-speed can do a number on your neck.
  23. damn. I hate when i see things I can afford, and wish I needed, but don't... Which trim level? Mine lacks cruise control and power windows, but otherwise, it's perfect for what I use it for.
  24. I'm biased, but I hate that generation Impala. I dealt with a horrible vehicular assault case where the victim was driving a 2007 Impala. The passenger walked away relatively unharmed, and both occupants of the 2012 Camaro SS were completely fine (passenger wasn't even wearing his seatbelt), but the driver of the Impala had pretty severe injuries. Some may have been caused by the paramedics when (s)he started to die on them, and they got desperate to get him/her out of the car more quickly, but the broken femurs, broken pelvis, etc. were not their doing. Super nice person too.
