  1. As part of the "nuclear fuel cycle"... Do you actually manufacture anything? What experience do you have in a manufacturing environment? Why don't you understand the simple impact of direct labor being a much larger factor in competition than taxes and regulation in mass manufacturing?
  2. Oh i could never do Kia/Hyundai... Too much garbage, too fresh in my mind.
  3. I agree with you to a large extent. GM is just how we roll.
  4. I couldn't buy a toyota in good conscience... 1. I've been all american in automobile choices so far. 2. If i were going to switch to a foreign, it would have to be a honda since I am directly involved with their manufacture, and my beloved ember is a honda.
  5. On occasion, I get this sudden urge to be inordinately verbose. You have my apologies.
  6. Oh, absolutely, the effectiveness of this application to accurately predict an election is definitely not well documented. Speculation all around... But honest speculation based on averages of poll numbers.
  7. the electoral college almost always votes exactly as their states do.(though on occasion one will refrain from voting) it's not very scientific, but I do believe it is an honest endeavor of trying to figure out the pulse of the country, and make some predictions.
  8. I'm not delusional... I know that the car is going to have some issues down the road. The 97 eldorado had it's fair share of problems. The pressurized plastic overflow tank for the coolant grenaded, the plastic coolant tanks on either side of the radiator cracked, the water pump started leaking through the bearing, the alternator went once, as did the air shocks. but all of these were relatively minor issues and pretty quick and cheap to fix once I got the parts. I feel like I know what to expect with this car, which is half the reason I bought it. I'm already planning on stocking up on those pieces I've previously mentioned, so when they do decide to fail on this one, I'll already have the parts to fix them.
  9. his website www.A-1roofingnow.com says he does basement waterproofing... http://www.a-1roofingnow.com/basement-waterproofing.html
  10. The map populates based on recent polls (basically if the election were today, this is what the outcome would be) if a candidate gets a lead greater than 2 points, the map shows it as "leaning" Very light red or very light blue. If their lead is more stable, they get a darker shade for "favors" and finally if the state is solid, they get the boldest blue or red, (ny, tx, and ca for example) as I was typing that, wisconsin jumped back in the fray
  11. prez is back up over 270, and leading slightly in all of the tossups...including florida... wow
  12. Viffer (800 or 1200) XX Thundercat Vstrom/weestrom ST11/13 oddly enough, busa or zx14 connie or fjr SV 1000/650 all of these are pretty comfy for longer trips(especially with the right seat), and have tons of luggage options
  13. Eldo averages 25-30 mpg depending on how much i get on the freeway. STS was lucky to break 20, and spent most of it's time at 18 avg. of course mileage doesn't mean a lot to me now, I'm only 6 miles from work when i move to my new house.
  14. yep, let's hope it's a good one... (that seems to be the way it goes with these) my 97 had zero issues to 173,000 miles when i totalled it into a GTI. The STS was a 108,000, when it started with the loud ticking.
  15. 2001 Eldorado, crimson pearl. yes, I traded and old "beat up" sedan caddy with a lifter/valve/rod knock for a year newer and 1/2 the mileage pampered caddy that I will be able to keep nice in my new garage. I couldn't afford the one I really wanted just yet (since I did just spend most of my money on a house.)
  16. When my niece was 2, my sister didn't think the weather was appropriate for trick or treating that year, so she had my BIL buy a bunch of assorted candy, had my niece dress up in her costume, then she and jimmy ran all around her place that night so her daughter could knock on the doors and say trick or treat.
  17. you clearly weren't paying attention. Blow molding = very low density (most of the volume of your final product is air) If we could cut out he cost of labor, then our products would be MUCH cheaper, and much more competetive. Unfortunately moving to china or india or mexico would severely blow up our shipping costs. it takes 14 of our largest parts to fill a crate, the parts weigh a little over a pound each... you can only fit 52 crates on a truck. Now you have a truck that can handle 80,000 lbs of cargo carrying only 1000 lbs of cargo, but still charging you for a full load... Now if we were manufacturing heavy dense rectagular widgets, (such as Iphones) it would make way more sense to go overseas, just based on labor. The only regulation that really impacts our bottom line is minimum wage. Taxes and regulatory costs are all under that big heading of "overhead and energy" which is about 10% (and where my paycheck is drawn from) 70% of that 10% is electricity. We run part grinders and hydraulic press motors 24/7 they draw a great deal of juice. if you want to improve the bottom line... Biggest contributor is resin cost, if you cut resin cost by any noticeable amount, we become more competitive (but then all of our competitors would get the same advantage) Second biggest contributor, Labor.. which is part of the reason we have an initiative to increase automation. lowest contributor, overhead, and energy.
  18. Here ya go Bad, Post a large sign in your yard, "trick-or-treating will only take place on Halloween at this house. Should you show up on Saturday, you will recieve no candy, and instead will be met at the door with a paintball gun"
  19. Bhut Jolokia got beaten out by Naga Viper a few years ago.
  20. the map's been changing since i first posted it.... at that time, both ohio and michigan were blue (2% or greater).
  21. What does your company manufacture? In small and medium volume Blow Molding, direct labor is 15% to 20% of the COST of the product. you have a mold opening and parts ejecting from the press every minute on average, there needs to be at least one person tending to the press, and depending upon how fast the press is running and how many secondary operations there are, maybe 2 or 3 or 4 people. most of the cost is fixed, it's the price of the material... The cost of labor directly affects the cost of the final product in a major way... Where my dad works, same story. Their presses run a little slower on average, but fiberglass reinforced composite compression molding has around 70-75% material, 15-20% labor... What manufacturing operation do you have that labor is only .02% of your cost? If it's manufacturing it is either EXTREMELY low volume, with extremely high cost of material, or it's so high volume, and almost completely automated that your business wouldn't employ many people anyway.
