jd724
LOL You probably could get my old Kat to wheelie Crazy but I'm sure I'm not as good a rider as most of you guys.
Gixxus Christ!
You can wheelie pretty much anything if you wind it up hard enough and dump the clutch. Not that I'm a big wheelie rider.
tall_tracy
WelcomeMSF course is the way to go. And when I was looking at bikes, I sat on a 250 and it seemed small (I'm 6'1"). I ended up getting a Ninja 650r as my first bike and couldn't be happier with it (at least for now). But hey what do I know, I'm not a dude... snot
Welcome, if you want a starter bike the 250 or 300 is great. The 500 is a little taller (CBR) and the 300 ninja is taller than the 250. Edited March 5, 2014 by snot

TimTheAzn
Welcome +1 for the MSF course/ Hondas give you instant street cred. :haha: As long as you ride within your abilities it wont matter if you are riding a 50 or a 1000. Ride within your limits. I started on a 1000rr but I always rode/ ride well within my limits. For the record I downsized to a 600rr. Save the pushing of those limits/ learning these limits for ze track. Ride safe! Sent from my iPhone.
max power
I would recommend a POS beater bike that has already been dropped and or crashed. That way, when you drop it, and you will, you won't feel as bad about it.Iron Pony is a good place to buy helmets and what not.

JackFlash
Since 1973, the Motorcycle Safety Foundation has set internationally recognizedstandards that promote the safety of motorcyclists with rider education courses, operator licensing tests, and public information programs. Here is the Handbook for the MSF Basic Rider Course that you aregoing to take. Handbook: http://www.publicsafety.ohio.gov/links/mo_basic_rider_handbook.pdf Basic Riders Course: http://www.motorcycle.ohio.gov/basic_rider.stm You will be riding a motorcycle during this course; therefore, during the ridingportions of the course, you must wear protective clothing consisting of the following:Over-the-ankle sturdy footwearFull-finger glovesLong-sleeved shirt or jacketLong pants without holes -- preferably jeansDOT-approved helmet if you have one -- limited number of helmets available to borrowEye protection if using an open-faced helmet or a full-face helmet with the face shield downIn order to take the Basic Rider Course, you are also required to have a valid MotorcycleTemporary Instructional Permit Identification Card (TIPIC) or a Motorcycle Endorsement onyour driver's license. Here's how to get your TIPIC. Step 1:To help you study for theknowledge test, be sure to pick up aMotorcycle Operator Manual and aDigest of Ohio Motor Vehicle Laws. Step 2:Proceed to any exam stationto complete the knowledge test.Upon successfully passing theknowledge test proceed to anyDeputy Registrar to obtain theTemporary Instruction PermitIdentification card (T.I.P.I.C.). Step 3:Call to schedule an appointmentfor your motorcycle skills test orcontact Motorcycle Ohio. Step 4:Upon successfully passingthe knowledge and skills test youmay be issued a receipt to be takento any Deputy Registrar alongwith your motorcycle TemporaryInstruction Permit IdentificationCard (T.I.P.I.C.) Here is the Motorcycle Operator Manual:http://www.publicsafety.ohio.gov/links/mop0001.pdf Here is the Digest of Ohio Motor Vehicle Laws:http://publicsafety.ohio.gov/links/hsy7607.pdf You are going to drop your first bike on the asphalt. You will not forget the sound of it hitting the ground.Start with something that you don't mind scratching up. The less plastic, the better. Plastic is expensiveto replace. Go sit on lots of used bikes below 600 cc. I started with a Suzuki GS 500. I cracked theplastic and scuffed up the paint. It will happen. A small Ninja is a perfect learner bike. So is the one I have. Welcome to OhioRiders. .
