For you guys into photography

Nice find! I have plenty of Canon Gear but the only Fixed Telephoto lens I have is the 135mm f/2 L. It's by far the best indoor sporting lens out there.

The 100-400L IS is the most versitile and my favorite. I can't see a $4-5k difference value in my owning a larger 500mm or 600mm fixed super telephoto lens....but then I don't often shoot at wide open apertures either and that's where the differences are usually seen.

Thats all I shoot with is canon. Im hooked and their glass is amazing. If you do any protraits a prime lens I would recommend is the 50mm 1.8 , F Stop from 1.8-22 talk about blurring the background this is it. I really like shooting with it.

I have the lens you refer to also. It is a great lens for indoor. The 100-400 is an expensive lense. The 500 to 600mm lens are known as "bird lens" because thats what people take in the wild and a lot of zoo photographers use them for up close shots. Hard core bird photographers have 10,000 in just a lens and body.

A website I frequent is http://photography-on-the.net/forum/ its a canon sponsored website. They guys that shoot for FHM, Playboy, Style, and all those other magazines are on there. If you want to learn some stuff thats where to go. I will say I am a very good photographer and do a lot of it. But I have learned many new techniques and interesting facts from that site.

I'm registered on photography-on-the.net too. Cool. PM me if you head out at any point to some cool areas for photo shoots. I don't get out as much now with kids, and what not.....I usually make do with where I'm at vs. actually being able to set up some shots. I do have a nice studio area I set up in our basement, but I tear it down often as it's fully finished and is also my home theater area, workout area, office area and of course kids play area :D

Here's are a couple from some family time outside this weekend.

100-400L

I like the 50mm too.....it's my low light lens but still isn't as sharp as the 35mm f/2....that's a nice one. The 35mm is also a great little walk around lens on the 1.6x cropped body cams.

50mm shot:

Here's one even with a Sony 717 from years back and simple gold reflector....end of day so he's a bit shaggy looking :D
