Sorry, I don't actually know what race, series or whatever it was. I heard about it through forum sponsor Capaldi Racing that was going to be there. Me and a friend headed up Saturday mid day-ish. Started pouring soon as we hit the road but thankfully stopped and ended up being a very nice after noon despite getting quite sun burnt on my neck and face :b

Pre-production 08 race car, sounded pretty good although they said it wasn't running right.

Was quite surprised to see this there. Read about this awhile back. Full SVT exterior, Baer big brakes and full Cosworth built engine, makes about 200whp.

This made me LOL

Busted control arm courtesy of a wall, also check the two Panoz's in the back ground. The owners were rude as hell though.

Dear jesus if you could hear the sound coming from the green one in the front. Check the guy in the tent behind, this thing was so loud.

This was probably the high pojnt of the day. Was walking around and saw a GT3 sitting there. Snapped a few pictures when the owner casually walks up and says "It's open if you wanna have a sit in it." Hoped in it...oh man, just the feel of that car was amazing. The owner was super cool, chatted for bit and he was cool, I asked if I could go for a ride along on his next run and he said I could but he already had someone going.

Unfortunately in my excitement I didn't even snap a full exterior pic. Oh well.

Custom cut wheels, was surprised to hear they were only about $2500.

Me in the car, the seats were amazing, the steering felt right where it should be, pedals were perfect, shifter felt amazing. What I wouldn't give to take one for a spin.

And some action shots. All I had was one lens and it didn't zoom very far so these aren't the best.

Overall it was a really fun afternoon. It was pleasantly surprising to see how nice so many of the people are there. Always willing to chat about their cars, give pointers etc.

Sounds like you had a great time. Mid-Ohio is a great track, and like you said there always seems to be a few drivers/teams just as excited to show you the car as you are to see it.

Last year at the emco classic, one of the teams with a 997 and 996 let me get in each to "get a feel" for the differences. :bangbang:

Looks like fun! and you're a fellow Canon shooter....rep for you :D Gotta get the 100-400L baby....you'll love it for these shots. Add in a flash and a Better Beemer and you'll add in a nice twinkle in the eyes of the drivers as they go by

Browsing around SCCA's website is a good place for info. I hear there's a PDX (performance driving experience) at mid-ohio pretty soon. No classes, no competition, just learning how to drive.

That's because NASA just happened to be running there this past weekend and they run there more than SCCA. SCCA still has road racing at Mid Ohio as well as other courses.

I was just stating that it was likely a NASA event. The OP had stated he didn't know what series the race was.

looks like a wide angle....my guess....10-22mm. it's a choice lens for the money.

250mm will likely be enough reach, but the lens is notoriously slow. you'll likely be best to shoot no more than 3fps if that. you won't regret saving up and getting a 70-200mm f/2.8. you don't really need IS on it so save the money. it's great with it but it's pricey then too. I'm USM and L-Lens biased though :D

You might also consider the 70-200 f/4L if budget is a concern. It will 5x out focus the 55-250 in terms of speed.

Nice pics, what lens did you have? I'm thinking about taking a 55-250 with me this weekend for indy, just wondering if that will be enough reach.

Sounds like you know your stuff, this is right in line with what most reviews say. However, I guess my question should have said something more along the lines of "I already own a 55-250/4-5.6 and cannot afford anything else, do I attempt to shoot with it or leave it in the car?"

I have a faster 50/1.8, but I would think I will end up better with the slower speed and zoom.

Unless of course you want to lend out some of your L glass :D

I figured you might already own the lens but no slam intended. It's sharp and decent for static shots. I'd still take it with you, but on AIServo mode, it will have some studdering in terms of shots per second. 3fps is max you'll get and it will studder a bit but that's okay. What camera are you taking? You can always look into renting a 100-400L or a 70-200L.

The 50mm is no better. It's not the speed of the glass, but the focus mechanism.

I'd love to head out and shoot with some of you guys. I've mentioned this to Erik, Evan, 360Iroc and others and we're game. PM me or start a post. I don't get out enough just for fun. I shoot company events, some sporting events and family stuff on the side. All done through word of mouth as I have a full time gig already.

This was a NASA event. Thay have a program which I've posted about before on here called "HPDE" which you can read all about on their site that's already been linked to. It's a way to take your street car on tracks like Mid-Ohio. The cars with just numbers on them are usually the HPDE people. "TTx" is the Time Trials group which is somewhere you can stay or is just a test away from having a competition license, then you have your race groups like SM(spec miata) and PTx(Performance Touring category.

I hope that driver recovers well, I saw what was left of that focus and it was trashed.
