zeitgeist57
Personally: I don't like to gamble, but I won't hold people back from doing it themselves. Professionally: State needs the money! Seems to be a strong industry for the local/state/regional economy. http://columbus.bizjournals.com/columbus/stories/2009/09/28/story1.html?b=1254110400^2162021 I think that there will be diminishing returns from casinos in Ohio, only because so many other gambling options exist around our state. BUT, I think we need to go forward with this from an economic standpoint. Any Clevelanders heard that Harrah's put a $90million offer for Thistledown Horse Track in North Randall, contingent on Issue 3 passing? That's a lot of money for an old horse track in a crappy part of town, but shows what sort of money there is in the business...

AWW$HEEET
I would vote for it. Im all about the free market, and letting economic forces take over. Having casinos in surrounding areas in the region, but not Ohio does lead to a $ drain out of the state. Let us cater to our own gambling demand. Spidey2721
i am for it as long as its setup right. long as it will create good jobs. bring and/or keep money to/in ohio. big biss, i dont care what it is, always has loop holes they try to use and thats what we need to keep a eye on with the way the issue is worded. also i wouldnt mind a place to go play cards at thats at least somewhat local. ;-)

gillbot
Against it, look at WV and the bigger shithole it has become now that they have gambling. It helped nothing over there other than turned shitty towns into even shittier towns.
Smokey
the only issue I have with it is that every time it comes up on the bill they say that the workers will not be from Ohio and they'll look for experienced personnel from other states.....now I can understand the dealers, pit bosses, and security people, but can't everyone else be from Ohio? Also, does anyone have clarification as to if they'd pay Ohio taxes on the Casino's profit? I know that was questioned the last time it came on the ballot. Don't believe everything you see on TV. Do some hard research about what has happened to other cities and states that allowed gambling. Than you will see its not as good as it sounds. HAOLE
my .02 Giving people more access to gamble will in the long run make matters worse. I would assume the demographics for gambling is like the lottery. The casinos will market to the hopes of the poor for a big pay off. Therefore the largest segment of their customers will come from the poor to lower middle class. Therefore casino's are kind of a back door tax on the poor. TheHaze
Therefore casino's are kind of a back door tax on the poor. The difference being, however, that those who gamble are doing so by will. I wish that's how all "taxes" worked.
TTQ B4U
No thanks. Never in a million years will anyone convince me that gambling will benefit us as a whole. The State yes....the people...no. They will go broke and in the end cause more harm to the rest of us and the economy than we have today. We have enough ways to piss away money and there are more than enough folks doing it. Ask my wife. She sees tons of folks going belly up. In the end, the folks in charge and benefiting from the gambling really only give a shit about the money and themselves. Don't believe the lies. TTQ B4U
the lottery is legal, why the fuck shouldnt casinos be? Viewed purely from a social perspective, gambling has no positive impact on the society. When people go to a casino, their prime aim is to gamble and win. Nothing else matters. People do not go there to for anything other than the thrill. Even if they go to socialize, they also go there to gamble. Casinos are not like going to the mall or retail shops. Products are manufactured and drive more research, production, distribution, etc. At the end of the day there are very few winners and lots and lots of losers. The losers as a result lose their ability to “invest” in our economy. They get into debt and reduce their ability to actually contribute to consumer spending. Creditors also suffer….see my comment about my wife. She’s a bankruptcy attorney. To me it has nothing to do with being legal or illegal. It’s just plain adding to the irresponsibility in the world. If people don’t have the money to go to Vegas, then honestly, they shouldn’t be gambling.
stealthmonkey
I will quit my day job and gamble professionally. CONS: i think this would become a problem for most people if they bring casinos to OHIO. Even me knowing how good howard is he would do well but most people think they are good but really arent and flush thier lives down the drains. PROS: Money spent here and returned to the state and open employment options for many many people. So it is a double edge sword to look at. TimTaylor751647545500
If old ladies can play BINGO in a Church, I think we should have a casino as well.
Spidey2721
no shit tim. i agree completely. and the people will go broke cause they will gamble is a bs arguement. if people cant manage money they cant manage money plain and simple. also you cant tell me every position filled will all come from out of state. bmw330is
The main problem that I have with it is that its only going up for vote when the state needs money. Whatever happened to being responsible with revenue rather than coming up with a new source? Its a bullshit easy way out and just another case of the goverment touting its disregard for accountability to taxpayers. Then theres the case for the criminal element that seems to flock toward that type of business....

Berto
I would personally say no. In the long run it ends up being crappy deal for society. Plus, here in Indiana we have new monster casinos...went into one. All they had was the virtual poker and stuff like that, no real tables, they aren't allowed. If I want to play virtual poker i'll stay at home and sit on my couch.
