Make your own trails, go to trails that are for power sports made by power sports riders. Those trails look so nice because mountain bikes are low impact, relatively speaking. Those trails were probably made by mountain bikers by hand (well the second one looks like an old service road, but the first one looks like it turns to single track pretty quickly). No, I grew up having dirt bikes and always trekked on foot up thru the mtn bike trails.... it just made me only dream. Riping through there on a mx bike would be nasty. Except for a gunked-up chain issue and some overdue maintenance (considering 2.5+ miles a day in shitty weather) it's been a trooper. Not a care in the world, go out on my California Freestyle (yeah i know, even had mags on it!) and ride all damn day, from street to trails for bikes, dirtbikes, quad's everything but the sand basically. Trouble Maker Posted February 23, 2010 Report Share Posted February 23, 2010 Selfish Multi use trails and equal access is a big deal in places where there are more people who do stuff outside (out west). IMHO multi-use trails don't work. Believe it or not, the horse people have a lot of the power, money and say in the situation. There should be equal access to the land for all, but a bike shouldn't be on a hiking trial and a horse shouldn't be a on a biking trail and a bike shouldn't be power sport trail, ad nauseum. The only one that kind of works is hikers and bikers. I have no problem with the hikers/runners being on the MTB trails, but I whole heartedly believe that bikes shouldn't be on hiking only trails. I never said you shouldn't be allowed in that forest, that is a whole different discussion. If you want to have a trail in that forest, do the leg work, get the permits and build it. Don't go onto the MTB, hiking or horse trials and destroy all of the hard work that people put into those for those specific purposes. It's only selfish of you to want to do whatever you want (ride your power sport on a non-power sport trail). My rides is currently a GF Big Sur, spec'd in XT shit, Manitou Fork, yadda yadda. Aluminum frame, carbon chain stays. Previous ride was a new 2007 Trek Fuel Ex 8 with a few upgrades, as well as a custom wheel build, blue Chris King Hubs laced to Salsa Delgado wheels, DT Swiss spokes and a blue spoke nipples. Broke the frame in half, got it waranteed and sold it. Previous to this, I owned a Cannondale F500 with XT, pretty much was one of my favorite bikes.
