evan9381 Posted March 20, 2010 Report Share Posted March 20, 2010 i found a similar thread from a while back but it was locked up anyone here? spent the last couple weeks getting stuff done to my bike for this summer. got my brake cables switched around (were backwards from previous owner), new handle bar tape, new tubes/tires, etc. got out today and did 22 miles. started at my place by easton, took the alum creek trail to shrock, over to the bike shop at state/schrock, back down to trail, up cooper, down cleveland to sharon woods, did the long trail in sharon woods, back up cleveland to main st, over to alum creek and back down the trail was a nice day out, shit load of bugs stuck to me off the trail. all in all took 1h 33m. me and the guy i work out with are talking about going out to mt vernon and doing the kokosing trail later this summer after we get some more seat time. 14 miles each way...supposed to be a nice trail out there in the country, and sounds like its fairly easy since its built on RR tracks, its doubtful theres many big inclines. evan9381 Posted March 20, 2010 Author Report Share Posted March 20, 2010 i just wore some ohio state basketball type shorts, a long sleeve white myrtle beach t-shirt, and some tennis shoes. im no where near hardcore enough of a cyclist to wear lycra. a guy on another forum im on though is, and he said if you're not down for lycra, you can get mountain biking shorts which is that stuff underneath, but has a loose outer shell, so you dont have the spandex look. nothing fancy though. hit craigslist for a bike. you can find good deals there Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I prefer wearing lycra anytime I ride but it is all personal preference. I dont have any pics of my Klein. Heres a picture of a bike basically identical to his... infact i wonder if it is lol. Yeah my dads were not that high, the bikes they ride are almost identical to the ones that Trek sells stock. The main differences are the wheels which can easily run 2-3k a set and the bike frame is made exactly for their height weight ect. I have the Giro Atmos helmet that lance wears, (he now wears the Ionos) Its a cool helmet it has crazy cooling over my head and it the lightest helmet you can buy. It has carbon fiber molded inserts. When I got my first car a 1981 Toyota Cressida in 99' from them it had 78k original miles on it, since he never drove the thing. or approx 4k miles a year, and this was their primary car. Me, Berto, Phil and a friend of berto's. It's a nice trail. Google maps has bike trials now! And you can do directions with them too. On Google maps in the top right go to More>Bike Trails and it will overlay them. Then in directions you can drag down the menu below the "To/From" entry fields and select "By Bike" to use those trails and 'bike friendly' roads for directions. This could show you some trails you don't know about or give you some ideas for routes. It will not use sidewalks or parking lots. So it may take you on an inefficient route sometimes. It whooped my butt too, since it was the first ride I ever took on my bike and you guys took me ~28 miles (?)! It's been a while and I need to dust off my road bike. Nothing fancy, ~1994-ish cannondale R400, i think. It's the only bike I've ever seen them make that is all polished Al. Thanks for the tip on Google maps. Work's not very far, only 4 miles each way. this was my first winter bike-commuting, it wasn't too bad. Now that the weather is nice I do some more recreational ridding. I did 36 miles on sunday. Berto Posted March 22, 2010 Report Share Posted March 22, 2010 (edited) I had a cannondale R500 but I really hated the 'race stance' I sold it and got this Giant FCR2 hybrid, haven't looked back since, I love it. Carbon Fiber forks are FTW. Also has the SRAM shifters where the up shift and downshift are both on the underside of the handlebar for maximum control. These are MTB shifters but Giant put them on the FCR2, it took some time to get used to but I really like them. http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c192/BertoBizkit/DSC03401.jpg I ride with lycra, if I am doing a 30 + mile ride i'll ride with just the lycra. If its a shorter ride i'll throw some shorts over. Say what you want but the seams in the shorts will eventually rub you raw. The lycra is designed to be seamless where it counts.
