Does this mean we are friends again ? :confused:

 

I've had a ton of people ask me why my car doesn't have a BOV if it's turbo.......:rolleyes:

 

As far as cheap power goes, look at your car, it's a series of cardboard, shoestrings, and bubble gum but it's quick as shit! :p

Call me a ricer if you like, but last time i checked a car making over 400whp is not ricey. BOV's sound awesome. If you don't think so, you are a strange man.

 

My parents pay for me to go to school, so all the money i make is for me to choose what i want to do with it. I make 6000 a summer. So 2 summers and selling the stang is a nice load of cash. Realistically, i'll spend some of what i make. But still. 2-3 summers from now i'll be getting just what i want. Quit hatin on me.

+1 for all the Subarus, especially the 02-07 imprezas. Those are the mustangs of the import world. You can find aftermarket parts everywhere for them.

 

Exhaust and Tune will get a WRX near an STI in a straight line, and an STI into the mid 12s. (Though I don't recommend Subarus for drag racing as there are better options. But there are plenty of AutoX and RallyX events!) The downside, is that if you want to get much over 300hp at the wheels, you'll need to crack open the engine.

 

But if you want a fun car that makes good power, is reliable, comfortable enough to DD, and somewhat practical, a Stage 2 turbo Subaru is very hard to beat.

This is where it gets funny to me in subby land. When did Stage 2 become good power ?

 

"Stage 2 wrx" = 220-230awhp. Roughly what I make on the same or pretty close mods. (in my case off the shelf flash and ebay testpipe). I really can't give the nod to Subby for reliability, nor in any other category. Plus our tq curve is a ton more "daily driver friendly". Oh, and your gas mileage sucks a goats balls.

let me give you just another piece of advice. concentrate on school, get as much education as you can, make as many job connections as you can, and concentrate on a fast, reliable, and no-doubt expensive car when you can EASILY afford it--like when you're out of college and have a permanent job

 

when you're young and not working full time with a very stable job----owning an expensive car can be like riding a bull

 

at first, it seems like a good idea--very fun. at the begining, you absolutely love it, you're hanging on (making payments, modding, insurance, fixing broken stuff, while spending tons of your hard-earned money), and enjoying the ride. soon, the ride becomes a bit rough (unexpected unrelated life costs come up, the job is unstable, you realize you just can't afford the payment every month for "X" years, or a major issue comes up with the car).

 

after that, the ride becomes downright miserable (you're trying with everything you have to hang onto the car, or sell it without losing your ass because cars depreciate like the sunk titanic, and you don't get shit for the mods you put into it).

 

finally, the bull tosses you off like a frail little child and you're left upside down and broken----driving a beater, with ruined credit, and nothing to show for it.

 

not trying to be a downer for you, but i was in your exact shoes when i was in college. i chose to hold off on an expensive car--i bought a beater 5.0 with cash and modded it conservatively. i busted my ass in school and it paid off. now, i could easily buy any one of the cars mentioned and not think twice about it.

YES, listen to every word he just said.

 

You don't have to drive a POS Geo, but don't pour a ton of money into something until you can easily afford it.

I say that because they are newer and not yet as fully proven in the world of the Speeds as they are in the other worlds.

There are some vary capable motors out there.

 

 

a 4.6 2v ford will do 425whp with a good tune.

 

a cobra motor can be good for double that, if you know what your doing with one

My 3.8 only has 75,000 miles on it, and i've taken AMAZING care of it since i got it at 55,000. I am going to milk this car until i can milk it no more, most likely. My goal is to save until i have enough to just pay everything down. Or take out a loan on 25% which i'd already have enough money to pay off. I'm at the end of my freshman year now and doing well in school. 3 years from now i'll graduate with a degree in Finance (already accepted into the major) and start looking for a job. Once i get that job, Car time!:cool:...that is with the money i already saved, not money i anticipate making.

 

I think your advice is great, and intend to follow it. I just said that to make SRT quit hatin on me. I WILL have one of these cars, maybe even one like his.

 

@Gearhead, i love Mustangs. But i really love cars with turbos. Small, fast, and good on gas.

E85. Although,I admit this a strong block from the factory,you paid dearly for it when it was new.

 

I think you are forgetting about BSHP per liter. For comparison sake... If a Subaru,Mitsu or Honda had 4.6+liters...Well! It'd be alot faster than any average domestic. I'm not hating here. I have owned my fair share of domestics. But I also realize that the imports have a leg up when it comes to making the most per liter in stock or mildly modded trim.

I also completely agree with Jones and Kirks5oh. Being reasonable with what you do now... Be it school,finances,cars,women,etc will pay off in the end. Always keep in mind your goals. But don't let the moment take you blindsided.

 

If you are really looking for a good turbocharged daily driver that can still be fun,look into a Jap car. I know that some folks will disagree. I have worked on and tuned both Japs,Euros and domestics. I will also be the first to admit that like euro turbo cars. But they are not the cheapest to mod CORRECTLY. Nor are they the least expensive to maintain. Unless you can turn your own wrenches. As far as domestic turbo's go... You don't have many choices. Newer Cobalts and SRT4's are all that is available. And quite fun to drive I might add.

I stand corrected on the Cobra. It's an 03 with the 4.6. I personally would like to have a Cobra R. Guess that's the road racer in me. Lol.

 

We will take boost out of the equation then.

 

I really like the NSX personally. They are very well balanced cars. But they were under powered and over geared in the US market.

 

Are you talking about Cosworth F1,CART or Escort engines? I am a fan of all. And know what they are capable of. All of which were available boosted depending on the era.

 

In the BSHP game,as far as I know,the F20C S2000 engine still holds the record for n/a at 120hp per liter.

 

I have worked on and driven a Super Snake. Nice car! Makes great power out of the box. Still kinda heavy for my liking though. I'm more of a GM fan when it comes to domestics.

 

I will even take a jab on this one...A civic will get you to work and back. A Snake will get you tickets along the way. Lol.

Looks like a lot of people are confused about the meaning of hp per litre.

 

getting monster power from the Veyron, it's specific power output is only 125bhp per litre.

 

When you say "road legal" do you mean as it comes out of factory, or tuned cars that are road legal?

 

If you're talking factory cars, then most people think it's the Mitsubishi Evolution VII FQ-400, producing 402bhp out of it's 2 litre engine (201bhp/litre)

 

Mazda's Efini spec RX7's were producing 276bhp out of 1.3 litres, giving 212.3 bhp/litre.

 

However, it's a ropey old ford that takes the honours. The RS200 when available had factory option kits that allowed you to take the road cars 1.8BDA engine up to 450bhp. Rally models went higher, not to mention the infamous 1400bhp pikes peak car. Only a handful of the cars left the factory at 450bhp (most opted for the "modest" 350bhp kit) giving 250bhp/litre.

 

If you're talking about the highest power/litre road car, then there are several supra's and skylines knocking about with in excess of 450bhp/litre. Whether they're road legal is a grey area though, as they can't get through emissions testing with that kind of power.

 

Highest specific output of a piston engine goes to Renault's 1.5 litre Turbo used in the 1986 F1 season. In qualifying trim, power could be boosted all the way to 1,500bhp, giving amagical 1,000bhp/litre, although in the races, they ran at around 800bhp (a "mere" 533bhp/litre).
