TimTaylor751647545500
If you had $3k to buy a decently reliable used car for a DD, what would you choose and why? I'm trying to make suggestions to a friend of mine as to what she should look at.
2 Sweet
'97-'03 Grand Prix GTP. Back in 2007 I bought a '97, 100% stock, 119k miles, GREAT condition, for 3k. Best daily I've ever had. Somewhat quick and easy to mod if you're into that, reliable 3800, good looking car, and FWD automatic so any moron can drive it in the snow Edit: just saw that you're talking about a girl, but it still applies. If she doesn't care about going fast, a regular GT would do fine, they are nearly identical in every aspect other than the Eaton and whatnot

Leather interior, heads up displays, not too bad on gas, large trunk space and roomy back seats too

2 Sweet
No mention of miles, but this seems pretty ideal... http://columbus.craigslist.org/cto/2245165665.html Lately all the other GTPs on craigslist have been way overpriced, or beat up shitboxes

greg1647545532
Ford Focus. Best bang for your buck in the $3k range, bar none. http://columbus.craigslist.org/cto/2216278634.html
Skinner
Jeep Cherokee agreed. can be had for Cheap will last forever and is easy on the wallet when it comes to maintenance and repairs. Only downside is it like to drink the gas, 20 gallon tank will get you around 300 miles from full to bone dry.
Draco-REX
Civic. Simple, easy to work on, cheap parts, reliable, great mileage. $3K is a little low for a Subaru that won't need a head gasket in the near future. But if that's not a big issue, then a Subaru is a great choice too. Reliable, safe, great year-round, easy to work on (except for head gaskets. )
zeitgeist57
Early to mid '00s Ford Taurus is a good option as well... I would default of course to Civic and Accord, but the midsize GM/Ford offerings are suitable and cheaper alternatives. American cars have come a long way in the last 10 years. Best bang for your buck in the $3k range, bar none. http://columbus.craigslist.org/cto/2216278634.html +1 Focus all day long! The Civic's are typically riced out or beat to hell by the kids driving them...
accel_is_my_drug
For a reliable daily driver find a late 90's Honda. Add gas,, maybe oil if over 200k miles. drive for ever.. Assuming you don't ind being terribly bored every time you go somewhere....

copperhead
I've been trying to figure out what the ultimate $3,000 car is for several weeks now, and my conclusion is to use that as a down payment on a $6,000 late 90's BMW
nurkvinny
GTP X 3 Yep, except for her, probably a Grand Prix or GT. People with light right feet will see 30+ mpg and you can get a gazillion options on them for cheap.
