As most of you know I was trying to sell the sprint. Well I ended up striking a good deal on an 2002 fz1. Heres the specs...

ohlins OES kit in front forks, Penske double rear shock (currently set up for 175 lb rider), Factory huger option (painted to match), Factory titanium option handlebar (lowers hands 1 3/4") (also have stock), Factory option larger wind screen, Braided break lines, Magura Master Cylinder, LSL rear sets (with optional folding pegs), Top of the line Case Savers (forget the name Mo Mo or CSC), RAM Radar Detector mount (currently direct wired for an Escort 8500), Greg's custom front turn signals, Devil fender eliminator with integrated turn signals (painted to match), Ivan's jet kit, Ivan's AIS removal kit, Dyno tuned to the LeoVinci Titanium Hi-Swept exhaust slip on, 136 hp at the rear wheel (with stock gearing)

ive only put about 20 miles on it since ive taken possession, and the rest of the time has been cleaning, and changing oil, and basically going through the bike. Tomorrow I have to swap the bars,(the lsl's are pretty aggressive) and detail it out. I also have to put the new chain on, and it will be ready to ride!

It's a nice looking bike:)

Of course I have to know what you like about it better than the Sprint. No, I'm not one of the Triumph people who thinks they are the only bikes on the planet, lol! I really am curious, especially since I have no idea what bike I'd like next.

well roxy, first off, id like to ask if your the same roxynoodle as over on triumphrat.net?

As of now, here is what I like about the fz1 over the sprint.

the maintenance schedule has alot longer intervals.

It has a more upright "standard" riding position, and my sprint had heli bars on it, maxed out as high as I could go without compromising my turning radius. After a full tank of fuel, i was ready to go see the chiropractor. I don't see how some guys tour on 600rr's and other supersports.

The suspension is amazing on the fz. Granted none of its stock. The brakes are equally as amazing, once again, aftermarket.

I actually like the carbs better than the triumph fuel injection. Its alot smoother on the roll on. on/off feel I felt i had with the sprint is non existent on the yamaha.

I also like the seat high being lower, and the center of gravity being lower. I am short, and stubborn. I refuse to lower a bike, unless its of the cruising nature. I can handle the fz much better in stop and go, and in parking lots, and anything that requires slow speed maneuverability.

It also has considerably more power than the sprint, but for my style of riding, i find it much more usable. I am mellow 90% of the time. 10% of the time the 16 year old kid comes out in me. I always found myself speeding on the sprint, where as with the fz, it doesn't wake up untill 7-7500. You have to make it go fast if you want too.

This really isn't a big deal here, but i like the fact that there are yamaha dealers everywhere. If im on a road trip, and need a part, chances are I am going to be able to locate it, reasonably. Chances are with the triumph is that i could end up being 5-600 miles from the nearest dealer.

I could go on some more, but thats what I can tell you thus far. I can do a full review on the fz1 after I rack up some miles on it. Thus far I have only put about 200 miles on it, and those are my initial thoughts.

If you are the same noodle from triumphrat, i haven't informed those guys yet. I plan on doing an indepth comparison of the two bikes to post there. I figure having some logic behind my decision will help ease there pain.

Glad you pulled the trigger on the swap - you definitely came out ahead on the deal - when you'd mentioned the owner had done some trackdays on it along with all the mods, I knew it would be a better machine.....suspension alone is a vast improvement over the Sprint's OEM setup, more versatility. Ti-LeoV exhaust have good tone? Never heard them in action, but have heard its great equipment and quality. You liking the bars better now than when you first installed 'em?

All in all, good trade and sweet bike! I have overtime coming on strong but Tuesday 10/25 looks promising to meet up after work bro - hit me back if that works for ya

Tuesday doesn't work man, we have to do stuff for my sisters birthday. hopefully later in the week. Well, hell, what are you doing tomorrow? I plan on riding a bit tomorrow, and will be heading toward piqua anyways so i can hit Landman mill and demming and the old river road

How many roxynoodles can there be with Sprints, lol! Yes, I'm the same noodle:) Don't worry, I don't really care what anyone on the RAT forum has to say about what bike you are riding or what they think of it. I like a lot of different bikes that they don't. And unlike many on there, I don't have any hatred of Japanese bikes. I have 2 Kawasakis myself, and my first bike was also a Kawi.

There is something to be said for lower seat heights and centers of gravity though. And dealer availability. I can't comment on suspensions because I'm too small for them to really ever be problematic for me. I might be the only Sprint owner who had to actually soften it instead of upgrade it, lol!

When I first got the Sprint I definitely had the speeding problem. It seemed every time I looked at the speedo I was doing 80 or more. I've since gotten used to it and it's not such a problem now. But, yeah, I don't ever see any need to own a bike more powerful than this one.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts on your new bike though. I've only been riding a few years and many of the bikes not made anymore I know nothing about, but would like to.

So far all I know about the next bike is that I would like something that is max 500lbs. I'm small, have a bum elbow and I'm getting older.
