About time!

BULLETIN: North Carolina has done what Tennessee won't do ...... ban trucks heading to the DRAGON. It is now illegal for trucks longer than 30 feet to operate on US 129 anywhere from US 19/74 all the way to the NC/TN State Line. They are also banned on NC 28 from NC 143 all the way to US 129. Also on the ban list is the entire Cherohala Skyway in North Carolina.

New signage will be erected to advise of the Restrictive Routes.

Want to hear what Tennessee says about banning trucks?

The commissioner (John C. Schroer) added that TDOT provides enhanced safety advisories in regards to potentially dangerous roadways and that it is the responsibility of motorists to exercise a greater amount of caution when traveling winding mountain roads.

So in Tennessee the signs warning trucks are actually aimed at other motorists telling them to DODGE THE TRUCKS THAT WILL BE IN YOUR LANE !!! Leave it to Tennessee to even make such ridiculous statements. The commissioner ought to be FIRED !!!

How about just banning the TRUCKS like North Carolina !!!! Now it is technically illegal for trucks to cross the Dragon and enter North Carolina. But they can legally turn around at the state line and return northward back across the Dragon as long as they stay in Tennessee. Great thinking Tennessee.

Too bad it's just the NC side. If I read this right trucks can still enter from the TN side without issue. It is also slightly meaningless because TN has control over the majority of the dragon. I think the state line is about 500 ft or so past the Deal Gap resort. So basically NC has about 1000 ft of road in which to catch trucks entering the dragon before they are safe from violating the size restriction. :(

From what I understand they can still use it on TN side, however once they get to the NC line they must turn around. I don't think it will stop them all, however I think it could be a major deterrent to them wanting to take that route as that would be a lot of time lost on their part

That will be rather pointless since as I pointed out the NC line is only the last 500-1000 ft of the dragon before reaching the Deals Gap resort. In fact looking at the map it appears the route into town is not restricted either.

I applaud the NC attempt and hopefully it does stop most truckers from using those roads but it has long been known the NC is the state reaping the benefits of the Deals Gap area and TN gets stuck with the expenses of clean up, road repair and cost to patrol it. So TN would shut it down if the could while NC would expand it another 100 miles so that more tourists would come.

It is restricted from the dam at the bottom of the hill on 129 to the NC line just past Deals Gap. A truck coming from TN going that way will get a ticket from the NC troopers. If they hang a left on 28 at Deals Gap they will be in violation on that road also. They do not get a free pass just because they came from a state that allows it. Will the troopers cut them some slack at the begining, I would think so, and hope so

However, I do worry about the source of this info. TailofTheDragon is the only place I can find this info, everyone else quotes them as a source. They have not exactly been a reliable source of info in the past. imnsho

That all could be the result of hacking and photoshop by TailofTheDragon. :D Seriously though thank you for confirmation from a reliable source.

Can we ban bald guys with goatees on cruisers that weigh over 700lbs? Why stop with trucks when other hazards are cluttering up a good road?

I rather enjoyed staying on their ass as they won't move inside at all and the fatty riding bitch is trying to turn and give me dirty looks but can't due to sweaty meat lock of her FUPA and her 80 gallon udders.

I rather enjoyed slinging a corner a there's a big rig in both lanes all in my biz.

No Mo Gubment interferenceizingments!!!

Bad and I both almost got killed by a truck... we'd passed plenty of trucks driving like maniacs but it was the first time we came around a blind corner to one driving towards us in the other lane for a turn.

Fucking scary

Stupid steering wheel holders. I refuse to take roads like that legal or not in the semi! To many newer drivers don't use their brain or can't read a map. Too many blindly follow their qualcom/GPS.

well TN is going to get a lot of truckers in trouble. once you get to the actual "dragon" part of the dragon, there is no turning around. you have to keep going into NC. then they'll all be wanting to turn around at the crossroads where everyone is hanging out. so everyone will have to move their bikes n shit. all 60+ of them.

TN will just lower the speed limit again from 30 to 25 and post signs warning trucks of switchbacks ahead. for some reason a lot of trucks miss that big ass orange sign that tells them the road is not made for a semi to safely pass.
