  1. Just back to Ohio where I’ll begin prep for YT and AK departure on the 12th. I attended the Horizons Unlimited travelers meeting near Appomattox and had a great time hanging out with like minded people that don’t think you’re crazy for cashing in and leaving “normalcy” behind to create your own normal. On the way home I was hosted by Lauren and Paul Brenner at Rainbow Farm near the New River Gorge in WV. Aside from running an organic chicken farm and riding the world in their spare time (check out their YT channel “the other end of the Rainbow) they run the Appalachian Motorcycle Adventure tour company. Lauren took me for an awesome 250 mile loop through some crazy WV dirt roads. They cater to all skill levels up to hard enduro (they have one day ride with over 100 water crossings!). If you’re interested in using their services (highly recommended), their web page is here: https://www.appalachianmotoadvtours.com/ Some pictures from my last week Mystery hole! friend and we’ll-known motorcycle travel author Sam Manicom publisher Michael Fitterling

  2. Valve inspection, wheels installed, plates renewed. Quick little shakedown run up to triple digits and all is good. Once again no balancing. I just left the weights that were on the wheels prior to my tire change 🤷‍♂️.

  3. Bought this one a few weeks ago because my standards are low and why not... Actually, I let the wife pick it out with the only criteria being rear seat comfort...it came with a $700 Mustang Touring Seat. I also considered the weird 2014 Valkyrie F6C even though stock tire sizes are basically out of production. It was cheap, like new with low miles, so why not...

  4. I removed more paneling and the arm rest brackets Amanda said she would never use. Reinstalled the giant wind deflectors, which are hideous but very effective. Changed the oil and filter. Rode it to work yesterday. Turned 27k on the ride home. Also rides like a dream at 85mph.

  5. at 1200 miles I made the change today to synthetic oil on Sunny2.0. Motul 7100 20W-50. And she is purring like a happy cat. So I wandered around a bit to feel her out and man, does the DR like the 20W. Shifts like butter. Ready now for leaving next Monday for a week in Appomattox VA and the Horizons Unlimited event there. After that? The Yukon and Alaska! I sold what’s left of the old bike along with the unused parts from the new bike to a fellow DR650 enthusiast who has the tools and capabilities to rebuild motors. He sent me pictures of the old lump. As suspected, the cage on the main bearing failed. Somehow bizzarrely, no apparent damage anywhere in the motor other than some scoring on the crank. He’s replacing the bearing a confident she will run again!

  6. Woke mine up from its winter nap yesterday. Needs a new front tire before I leave for Texas on may 5th. Just turned 100,000 on the clock when I put it away last fall

  8. I ordered a new side by side so the two I have currently need to go...I currently have for sale a 2016 Yamaha YXZ1000R special edition with 1,000 miles on it and a 2014 RZR 900XC. The Yamaha is showroom condition with only modifications being a speaker unit. The Polaris has a lot of accessories (windshield, cooler, spare tire and rim, back travel cover, and tons of spare parts). My new unit will not be in for a couple of weeks so while I wait I thought I would see if anyone wanted a good deal. Prices below are what they are wanting to give me in trade. If anyone would like them before I trade please contact me. Trade in is definitely below market value, I understand they need to make money too but I would rather see someone get a deal instead. Yamaha $11,000 Polaris $6,000

  12. It has enough electronic controls to rock you in the cradle of nanny safety. I over paid for this bike just to have a bike right now to the extent that I wouldn't have bought the Competition version without these unique circumstances. I wasn't completely satisfied with my '16 SXR because of the over intrusive electronics so as soon as they announced this MXR I got on the list because it has two generations of updated electronics which shouldn't neuter the bike in specific scenarios. A few weeks after that I cleaned my bike up ready to sell and put it up for consignment at the dealership which was in July. I didn't ride last summer at all past mid July. There is a white MXR with the same motor, same electronics and forged wheels without all the carbon fiber, which would have been perfect but no one knows when they will be available. That bike would have saved $5,500 in M.S.R.P. over the one I bought just because I wanted a bike now to overcompensate for the lack of riding last year. I'm coming up on a return to work date in June from a five month leave of absence so I'm trying to get as much riding in as I can by then.

  13. @Tpoppa I was just telling some people yesterday that I rode past the Big Muskie Bucket for ten years before I knew it was there. The curves in front of it demanded concentration so I didn't have time for sight seeing. We were on a ride one time and you were having some hand issues that wouldn't let you ride for as long as we usually did so we stopped there. Now it's always the first solo ride of every season for me to shake the cobwebs out. I'm thankful for that experience.

  14. Correct. Finished up the breakin miles today and dropped it off to have the revlimiter removed and first service done.

  18. Began the process of spooning on some new shoes for the Wing last night. Just removed the tires lasts night. I spooned the new ones on today. Pain in the butt to spoon off as well as on, but new tires are on.

  19. I got Bonnie a new trinket. A new tank bag. My current bag is getting a bit long in the tooth. I went to Iron Pony more than 20 years ago and got a tank bag for my Bonneville. I customized the bag with some Triumph decals. I have to tell you darlings. My tank bag looks marvelous.

  23. Wow! Just WOW!!! I'm really glad I'm old enough to know that I don't need anything like this beast in my garage...or in my life...which would be very short from time of acquisition to ugly, terrifying death.

  25. When I got my '16 BMW SXR all I wanted was the quick shifter/auto blipper because of my hand injury. The bike had cruise control and heated grips which I really didn't want or need at the time. Now I need them on every bike and a heated seat is on my list of next wants. I don't care if a bike has character or is too refined. I want it to be competent, I'll provide the character.

  31. Ok, 2 organs removed in 5 months. I am 4 months post Op. 295x2 dead lift 145x3 bench press Started linking toes to bar again this week and rope climbs are almost back. I do not recommend losing organs to lose weight. It works, but not worth it.

  33. If you two would get a newer wing you could use them to deflect warm air from the radiators on you in the cold, or block it in the heat. Durks radiator air flows ass backwards. Paulys may too.

  37. Spent some time pulling more cabinet facing off the Tupperware. Almost there and thought about going all the way, but my fingers started to protest. Two fat blisters on my thumb and index fingers quelled my enthusiasm. Very pleased with the way its looking so far.

  38. Well, if your luck holds out on the job front stay with the Tuono idea. The insurance really is not that bad and plus it's really just a 998.
