  7. Home! About 2,600 miles in 6 days. Most of that was outstanding back roads. On day 5, I was dealing with some pretty severe dehydration. It was from the previous 4 days of riding hard, the heat on Saturday, and all that alcohol by the fire Friday night. It was a great trip and just what I needed. Sorry for scaring the new girl

  8. The first leg of that trip was excellent. Some of those sections were damn tight and made for much fun I was smiling like a fuckin clown behind my visor. Didn't want the fun to end so 119 was almost steady felony speed and I made up enough time to 2-lane back through SE Ohio. Right at 600 miles when I pulled in this evening. Absolutely great day! Thanks for letting me tag along this morning.

  9. Great weekend! It was good seeing friends, old and new. I write this as I sit at Tuskeegee Motel, planning a 300 mile route for tomorrow. Got the requisite 'Dragon pictures' ride completed this morning, followed by a little pool time. I love having my wife down here, but I'm beginning to think I'm missing out by trailering....especially when I have a rolling couch capable of pulling 1 G of acceleration and 1 lateral G cornering. Maybe I'll find a way to make the trip on the bike next year. Anyway, good seeing everyone. Hope you all make/ made it home safely.

  10. Came home last night, or early morning 5 am. Rode all night so jr can just sleep in car and not be fuzzy during day time. I hope he remembers this when he grows up, that his dad despite living right in the middle of motorcycle paradise for a week / just rode one day with friends for namesake, and instead chose to the Ride with him on little go around piggies bees and ducks in Dollywood instead.

  14. In Kentucky now, heading for Columbus. Probably stop somewhere on the way. Don't need to be in town until Tuesday. To everyone on the ride, you were awesome. @Tonik, @Killer_kaw, @Casper, @OsuMj, @snot, @Hellmutt, @2talltim and @Danimal you were all especially awesome to hang with. Andy was too, but I can't remember his handle!

  15. Absolutely nothing but put gas in it and ride it. First day in a week I haven't tweaked, adjusted or filed something. While at Fontana had to fix brake linkage issues, pull the ignition cover and reseal it and make a dozen little adjustments. Not bad for leaving the day after I thought I was finished with the build and riding through a half dozen states. Seems pretty solid now after a 2,000 mile trip.

  18. Great trip overall! Issues first: I made the mistake of thinking my stock Pirelli Diablo would last. It shit out at 4300 on a Saturday at 2:30 so I had to wait until Monday morning to get a tire put in on Watertown, New York. That was my screw up, never had a "sport tire" before but my PR4s got 12k+ on the FJR so I figured at least half on the Pirelli??? That kinda screwed up our timing around the Lake Placid area so we just rode on through after a short stop there. Route 6 across Pennsylvania was great. The area around Watkins Glen and the Finger Lakes was beautiful, I'd definitely stop there again. It rained like hell at the end of the day in New Hampshire when we were coming down the White Mountain National Forest. That was the skechiest riding I'd ever done. Beat up road, terribile visibility, hands were cold. Ugg, not fun. Up until the rain, it was a great forest to ride though, I'd take 112, Kancamagus Highway, again. Maine was fun, it was nice to stay in the same camp for a couple nights. Took about every road three times on the Mount Desert Island. Ate lobster. It was so nice to just get away from everything at home for a bit. How'd traveling on a Daytona go? It went great! I had all my shit in the Kreiga US-40 setup and a tank bag. The only thing I borrowed from my uncle was the heater for boiling water for our meals. I had my bivy sack, sleeping pad, extra shoes and clothes for a week long trip. Snacks, tools, maps, etc. No issues there. Because of the 160 or so mile range on the highway, we had to stop every 3 hours or so for me to get gas. Hopping off and moving around helped a lot. I did a lot better than he did on his Road King, but he's also 61. Not wearing a full face helmet with earplugs in really screwed him up I'd guess. Wednesday night I got the idea to try an Iron Butt Saddle Sore 1000 on the way home. Following a Harley was getting to me. I planned a route down 1 for a bit then anticipated taking highways across Pennsylvania until I hit my 1000. I didn't have GPS worth a shit in the camp so I assumed I'd stop for the night somewhere in Penn. Didn't stop until I got home Thursday. 1029 miles, started at 5:30, got home about 10:30. Surprisingly, 84 and 80 across Penn didn't suck. As far as slabs go, they had decent scenery.

  27. This guy is really trying to help you. Find a bike you like and can afford. Go buy it and ride it. It does not matter if it's carb or fuel injection if it runs well. Chances are you will be looking to sell it and upgrade at some point anyway. This is your 1st bike and more than likely not your last bike you'll ever buy. I understand you are looking to spend almost all the money you have and that's scary. For $1500 realize you probably are not going to find a perfect bike. I would say the 1988 500 ninja that was mentioned at some point has been your best option. Go buy that thing and ride the crap out of it. https://cincinnati.craigslist.org/mcy/6117058030.html This thing was posted a month ago. Give him $1000 and you have money left over for gear. There are over 280 posts here, if you don't have enough information by now you probably never will.

  29. Cabin was nothing special but fairly clean. I really didn't spend much time there because the weather was great and I was there to ride motorcycles not watch tv. The down side for me was not being able to contact home most of the time and a long way to go for a 12pk of Miller lite. Upside is leaving or coming back you get to rip down 28 and being able to bullshit around the fire at night without anybody bitching is pretty cool

  31. Rooms smelled like mold mildew. Ceiling in the shower looked like they just painted over black mold. (Vent didn't work and likely hadn't worked in a LONG time). A/c unit ran non stop. 8sec was longest Gap of "off" time. Room just felt dirty. Asked for a different room and didn't get one. This morning I went to the restaurant in the lodge for breakfast. Took 5 mins to be seated with no one waiting in front of me (not a big deal). After that waitress brought my drink then avoided me the entire time. After waiting 30 mins to order I tracked down a different waitress to order. Took forever getting bill. The place was almost empty. Two other groups I talked with had same experience with service. After leaving breakfast pissed went to front desk to talk the GM. "Front desk manager" wouldn't let me talk to gm said they busy. I explained my poor experience this year and "front desk manager" was indifferent to the situation and told me she would just talk to wait staff and that was it. Feeling like I was getting shafted I told them to cancel my next night stay and I wouldn't be back. Tl;dr shitty experience manager basically told me to f off Fontana-never again. And why have wifi if it doesn't work? For anyone that doesn't know me I travel for work and have been in PLENTY of hotels in the last three years. Worst hotel experience in that time.

  32. Smushed my ankle a little bit, but nothing serious... might have chipped the paint a little bit, but no biggie. I laid in the yard, reached over and hit the kill switch, laughed at myself, called Howard and asked him to come help me. All the riding that we did, the gravel, the deer, the uneven pavement, etc. I dump it in the driveway

  37. Change of plan for me. I hiked about 2 miles down lakeshore trail and it was ok, but not great. The views were ok but the flies kept landing in my eye.... which is weird.... after 4 of these guys I decided it was time to turn around. So now I'm on the Appalachian trail heading to the top of Shuckstack mtn. I'm pretty close to the top and have cell signal. Should reach the top by 1:30 then I've got probably about an hour and a half back down hill. Mostly reporting in here because @timtheazn scared everyone away and I'm alone ...or everyone else came here to ride motrcycles. .. one of those.
