In a lot of years, I've only seen one accidental discharge at a show. And it was a nut going around putting .22cal rounds in rifles to see if an accident would happen. media response to this thread --> "look at me! look at me! look at me!" All media is struggling to survive in changing times. They will do and say anything.

Good place to find used aftermarket shocks for a 919?
ReconRat replied to 8Rider6's topic in Daily Ride
Mine gives rear wheel hop under hard braking, at lower speeds. Stock setting in rear on stock shock (I think, I'll look again.). I'm 170, and it isn't too bad, I just avoid fast transitions to hard braking. I've not had anything like that at higher speeds or hard cornering. Which makes me think my front is diving too much/too fast perhaps. Mine is a 2002, and the front springs/fluid give me the impression they need help soon. My front suspension clanks a "top out" going over speed bumps. I think I have read on 919 forums that a 954 rear shock can be reworked to suit. 04+ 1000RR uses the same shock with same compression and rebound. One inch longer. I don't think it fits. 900RR is 1.35 inches longer. There are a lot of different part numbers on 919 rear shocks. Not sure what for. I see one guy swapped to a 2005-2007 919 rear shock. This looks easy. The early 919 rear shocks were kinda funky, I think. My 2007 does not hop like that. edit: I haven't pushed the 2007 as hard as the 2002. So not complete data. I think the early rear shock used a 1200#/in spring, and later models use a 875#/in spring. Ohlins or Penske shock on rear is option, but expensive. Try setting rear at 5 or 6 (stiff). I was going to change mine and see what it does. Front end is easier. Swap 2005-2007 parts onto it. F4i or RC51 front ends work, I guess. Racetech up front for your weight and fresh oil might be improvement. http://www.wristtwisters.com/forums/f94/919-suspension-upgrades-24144.html http://www.wristtwisters.com/forums/f94/here-it-is-my-new-old-919-shock-23727.html http://www.wristtwisters.com/forums/f94/919-specifications-maintenance-tips-and-how-tos-24916.html http://www.wristtwisters.com/forums/f94/2004-919-fork-and-shock-setup-for-track-use-31210.html http://www.wristtwisters.com/forums/f94/another-shock-possibility-23562.html Cycle World published a basic adjustment for it years ago. Might try to find it. A careful setting of sag, front and rear, might bring it around. -
update: Added seven new house resolutions after Obama speech. Now 19 total. Odds changed on many, some up, most down. Six are now zero chance.

well now isn't that strange.... brb... http://youtu.be/_0-vojkBOxs http://youtu.be/jVbYdBNcBBY http://youtu.be/nFuXBc3g9eQ http://youtu.be/PhQT_tW33AI All the same, except one is a lot shorter. That seemed to be what's currently available on youtube. The first post was a full length, all these are edited. Let's see how many of these "disappear".

Some people will never be able to use logic. Some people will believe that changing everyone else is good for them. some people will forever prefer assistance to survive. Some people will forever fear what they don't understand. And some people will forever hate what they fear.

Interesting interactive graphic from the British news The Guardian. The blue represents where laws are enacted, except the red represents where open carry and concealed carry are allowed. For fun, click on the "scale states by population". Gun laws in the US, state by state – interactive

First up is a zoomable and scannable picture of the center of our galaxy. About one billion pixels in the picture. Zoom in to see just how many stars are out there. Warning, it takes a while to load. “My God, it’s full of stars!” To Surf a Hundred Million Stars By Phil Plait Second is a photo of a mountain that's never been climbed. It's only 6000+ ft, but rather steep. Miancimu mountain in China, looking SW over the Tibetan border. From Alister Benn. Third is an article about how human vaccines are now made by using zombie viruses that plants normally use to protect themselves from insects. It's faster, cheaper and better. Funny how that zombie thing keeps popping up in the news... Viruses That Make Zombies and Vaccines by Carl Zimmer of The National Geographic

Yeah, black is just lots of combustibles. Quit revving it cold, lol. Gump is probably right. Funky at start up, and warming up makes it stop. Basically if it used to run ok, then it's not something in the carb unless the carb clogged up with varnish or broke, which would be more of a lean condition. That could draw oil, but it wouldn't just be at idle. Again, reading the plug would be a good idea. That and a compression check. Both wet and dry. Those items will pretty much isolate what it is. Checking the carb isn't a bad idea, there's often something to make better. But later.

blue smoke at idle is too rich. I suspect. Low speed jet, if it's that bad. Go smaller. But if it's stock jetting, I wouldn't think that's the actual problem. I'd look for a leaky fuel shutoff or fuel selector first. Something that's wetting the cylinder with too much fuel. edit: Or my favorite... a dirty air filter causes too much fuel to be drawn. giving a fuel-air ratio heavy on the fuel side. Noticeable when engine is cold (especially with choke on).

Call me old school, but fairings that don't turn with the front forks freak me out. But I would still rent one or something to try it out.

I remember this company and the design from way back. It's about time it hit market. Putting the barrel at the middle of your fist is an old concept, but not many designs are attempted or are successful. I would look for them discounted at 590 to 740 in the gun shows.

I like it. But not surprised, I'm pretty sure we'll find water almost everywhere. Just most of it hard to get to and recover. Recent reports of the planet Mercury show lots of water there also. Same deal as the Moon. In the places that the Sun never shines.

White house response to petitions from the states to secede from the Union Our States Remain United Apparently, it's not important enough to be in main stream news. Oddly, it's not in news at all. But did find this: White House Rejects Texas Secession Petition Oddly, the New York Times source did not show up in a google news search.

The data files have been out for a while, but it has been refined quite a bit. Worth downloading the CAD and CNC files before they vanish. Again. edit: haha, just thought. Wait till we start printing our own ammunition. Then I'm impressed. Oh yeah, and I started looking for magazine springs in bulk / cheap months ago. There aren't hardly any around. All sold out.

How much should one have saved up for Retirement?
ReconRat replied to DTM Brian's topic in Daily Ride
Where to spend gold and silver is the problem. If you sell some, it's not likely to give back what you paid for it. Exception would be if you bought 20+ years ago. There are ways around a loss. Certificates or mining stocks etc. About 10% max savings in precious metals would be ok. It's a just in case theworldgoestohell type thing. -
yup, those all work fine. Guess that's not the websites I was on, huh. edit: Rock River was ok also. Yeah, I went back through link history, and almost all are working again. It really wasn't too responsive for a while, earlier in the evening.

How much should one have saved up for Retirement?
ReconRat replied to DTM Brian's topic in Daily Ride
Optimal is living on the interest from the account(s), plus social security, plus any retirement income(s) and any mandatory disbursement(s) from an IRA account. That's your retired income. So if wanted 60k/yr (5k/mo), an example would be 2k from employment retirements, maybe 1k from social security, maybe 1k from an IRA. You'd need another 1k from savings. 400,000 savings at a 3% annual yield would give maybe 1k a month. Lots of variables, it's tricky to guess ahead into the future and make plans. Earn too much in retirement and federal benefits get cut back. Most work up to the allowable amount and stop for the year. I forget how much that would be. edit: There is no limit after reaching actual retirement age of 65-70, only in early retirement. Still pay taxes on a lot of it, but that's all relative anyway.
