I thought my accountant was nuts when he moved to a militant compound in Idaho to get ready for the end. In that case the end was Y2K. He recently moved back. I still think he's a little nuts. Keeping water and food on hand is a good idea for a power outage or a boil alert. But if you have some fantasy about being armed, defending your rations from your less prepared neighbors...yes you're nuts.

Having just bought a 2010 CBR600RR, I'd be curious to hear how you compare the two. I am trying to decide if I can live with it as my only bike, perhaps with Tracstar clip-ons (There could be a SFV650 with major suspension improvements and hard bags for sale soon).

Of the 4 Japanese literbikes, I would consider the CBR to be the best street bike, but you should at least go sit on each of them.

There are plenty of good, logical reasons not to buy a second bike, but none of them matter when you get the bug.

I just picked up a CBR600RR for the same reason. My SFV650 handles really well in the twisties, but I wanted something a little more sport focused. The VFR and CBR1k are very different. The only advantage the VFR has would be a more comfortable riding position, and even that's fairly subjective.

I am also riding through WV and VA this weekend. That much highway riding on a Ninja 300 sounds unpleasant. Also, your highway trip will bypass some of the best motorcycle roads in the eastern part of the US. On a curvy back road, where you're moving around on the bike you won't get nearly as stiff or uncomfortable as you will droning along the highway. I rode that area last week but avoided 555. Not sure where you're headed, but nearby 377>550 from McConnelsvile to Marietta is a really good route and in nice shape this year..

I'll have to read some reviews. If it handles anything like the Street Triple it will be on my short list.

Last time power went out it ran my sump pump and 3 neighbor sump pumps no problem.

The most important part of a generator is the motor. I wouldn't buy one without a motor manufacturer I trusted. I bought a Ridgid generator last year with a Subaru motor. I would also consider a Honda or Yamaha powered generator. Whenever I see a bike for sale with those aftermarket fairings, I assume it has been wrecked. Unless the owner still has the OEM fairings.

I like everything except the suspension. Maybe they'll have a higher spec version like the Street Triple R.

I wasn't looking for anything new, but I got the leftover '10 ABS model for what people are asking for used 08-09s without ABS.

Yep, I just need to make my self do it. Old habits and such. Power delivery is very different from a V2.

I picked up a leftover 2010 CBR600RR ABS a couple weeks ago. Fit and finish is quite nice. It has 'track tuned' Combined ABS that is actually pretty impressive. There's some You Tube videos of people slamming in the brakes on sand and wet asphalt without issue. I haven't been that brave, but good to know it can do it. After riding mostly twins for the last 10 years, I seem to have a mental block that forces me to shift at 10k. I'm working on it though. Stock photo, but all Hondas look the same.

The Suzuki 650 twin motor is most excellent.
