The previous owner told me it had a warped front brake rotor. It doesn't. What he thought was a warped rotor is actually play in the steering stem, which can be felt under braking, and over bumps. I thought torquing the steering stem nut would fix it. Upon doing some research, I found that this is a common issue on several 2002-2008 HD models. They actually have a kit to fix it. It replaces an aluminum part in the steering stem (wears over time) with a steel part. Apparently, it's a $150-200 fix at the dealer, but HD has done it for free as a goodwill repair in some cases. I'm dropping it off at a chrome castle on Thursday.

Exactly. And these are often modified with lowering kits and forward pegs which completely defeat the purpose of this model. The riding position is surprisingly good. It handles excellent by cruiser standards, which is still below anything with actual sporting intentions.

2006 Street Rod. I was sort of looking for one of these in the spring. I was no longer looking, then this one fell in my lap pretty cheap. Best thing about it is the riding position, it's really close to a Street Triple. More power & bigger fuel tank than a standard V Rod. 40 degree lean angle, brembo brakes, etc. It needs some minor work. I'll most likely ride it for a few months then flip it in the spring.

Cb500x is a really good road bike. It corners really well and will cruise at 85 all day. In stock form, it doesn't have all that much ground clearance. But, I've ridden some pretty sketchy terrain and haven't gotten it stuck yet. I wouldn't want anything heavier for off road riding. Rally raid parts can turn it into a really capable adventure bike.

I've honestly gotten a little bored with street riding. Lately, I've been mostly riding my CB on unpaved stuff. But, something new in the garage always gets my blood pumping again. The new FZ1 and 765 Street Triple are on the list, but I intend to ride plenty before I buy.

I was hanging way off the right side of the bike, fully committed to the turn, and got thrown on top. If I was hanging off just a little or sitting straight up, I would have gotten tossed off the left side. I hang off in most corners. I'll add, I've ridden 300-400k of pretty aggressive riding on the street, on at least 25 different motorcycles, and this oil slick was the only time I've almost tank slapped. Steering inputs and throttle control also play a factor.

Did you crash? The only time I almost crashed due to a high side was when I rode my 600rr through a 20ft oil slick on 556 near a fracking site. It was violent. I was hanging off the bike and got thrown on top. The bars wound up at my waist and I was looking at the front wheel. It happened really fast...somehow I stayed on the road and rode out of it. What saved me was good body position and properly set up suspension.

Look at the new one. Traction control, ABS, fully adjustable fork, significantly improved fueling, etc. That said, I'd rather have the new 765cc S3 R for $11,200.

I prefer to be the ride leader, but will only do so in certain situations. There's a group of people that I've ridden with for years, all of us a capable of being the lead, sweep, or middle of the pack. There's no egos, and we all know what to expect...we're all riding our pace, which is pretty similar for each rider. I rather ride with unfamiliar riders when there's just 2 or maybe 3 of us, not in a bigger group...and I watch closely. I've met some outstanding riders that way, and some others I would NOT invite to a group ride, until their skills & maturity are more developed. I've also ridden with some skilled riders that AREN'T a particularly good fit to have on a group ride. When I'm leading, I tend to watch my mirrors a lot. I'm actively trying to keep the group from getting split too far apart, and making sure no one is putting them self or another rider in jeopardy. I won't ride with people who's ego exceeds their talent, or think a group ride a pissing contest. My level of comfort with other riders has nothing to do with pace. It has everything to do with skill, smoothness, and being level headed. I've dipped out of lots of rides when it just didn't feel right.
