  1. After 4 seasons, I'm thinking about buying a new motorcycle. I have my eyes on a couple new models. I also have a Ventura Pack/Rack that could go with it. Willing to negotiate if I like you ? https://cleveland.craigslist.org/mcy/d/vfr1200-abs-with-hard-bags/6244076005.html
  2. I was hanging way off the right side of the bike, fully committed to the turn, and got thrown on top. If I was hanging off just a little or sitting straight up, I would have gotten tossed off the left side. I hang off in most corners. I'll add, I've ridden 300-400k of pretty aggressive riding on the street, on at least 25 different motorcycles, and this oil slick was the only time I've almost tank slapped. Steering inputs and throttle control also play a factor.
  3. Did you crash? The only time I almost crashed due to a high side was when I rode my 600rr through a 20ft oil slick on 556 near a fracking site. It was violent. I was hanging off the bike and got thrown on top. The bars wound up at my waist and I was looking at the front wheel. It happened really fast...somehow I stayed on the road and rode out of it. What saved me was good body position and properly set up suspension.
  4. Look at the new one. Traction control, ABS, fully adjustable fork, significantly improved fueling, etc. That said, I'd rather have the new 765cc S3 R for $11,200.
  5. I need to get tires mounted on the VFR. I already have them.
  6. Didn't Yamaha raise the price to $9k?
  7. I prefer to be the ride leader, but will only do so in certain situations. There's a group of people that I've ridden with for years, all of us a capable of being the lead, sweep, or middle of the pack. There's no egos, and we all know what to expect...we're all riding our pace, which is pretty similar for each rider. I rather ride with unfamiliar riders when there's just 2 or maybe 3 of us, not in a bigger group...and I watch closely. I've met some outstanding riders that way, and some others I would NOT invite to a group ride, until their skills & maturity are more developed. I've also ridden with some skilled riders that AREN'T a particularly good fit to have on a group ride. When I'm leading, I tend to watch my mirrors a lot. I'm actively trying to keep the group from getting split too far apart, and making sure no one is putting them self or another rider in jeopardy. I won't ride with people who's ego exceeds their talent, or think a group ride a pissing contest. My level of comfort with other riders has nothing to do with pace. It has everything to do with skill, smoothness, and being level headed. I've dipped out of lots of rides when it just didn't feel right.
  8. Excellent helmet. How much for one of these: SW-MOTECH Drybag 350 Yellow
  9. It's the type that has the plugs on short leads, rather than attached to the body. It's a bit more flexible for different applications. This type:
  10. If you need an RR, I have a nice mosfet one in my tool box. IIRC, it's from an 07 CBR1000RR.
  11. Garmin software is absolute garbage. Sometimes I use basecamp to view existing routes, but I'd never waste time creating a route with it. The method I mentioned above is better and much simpler.
  12. Garmin Zumo 550 Seems like it's easy to find routes on different motorcycle websites that use Google maps. Google map routes can then be converted to a GPX file for free here: http://www.gpsvisualizer.com/convert_input Then it's simple to upload to the Garmin.
  13. I've logged a few miles on a V45 back in the day.
  14. everything else being equal Road Smart 3s have a good rebate right now.
  15. http://www.cycleworld.com/2013/09/16/become-a-better-street-rider-with-the-pace-motorcycle-safety-and-riding-skills
  16. I'll be there on my 500. It sucks to get passed by a bike with 44 hp and dirt tires.
  17. Because of this thread, I'm going to demo a 765cc Triple RS.
  18. I remember when Lincoln was shot. Fucking Booth:(
