I imagine that car distracted you for a sec. Been thru there hundreds of times. Seems the best is to be downshifted into first and ez on the brakes and stay a bit wide to avoid the hairpin drop off. Love that road, especially coming west.

^^ Yea - its in the corners where it counts. The bike used to bounce over bumps and now it just sticks like glue. Wanna change lines, mid-corner? No problem. Great control and stable.

Agree on the suspension and brakes -- I also trashed the stock brakes on my viffer and converted to RC51 calipers and MC. Doesnt get much sweeter.

I see you added a Penske in the rear and an Ohlins kit. Nothing like a suspension upgrade. I have a Penske and Traxxion Dynamics in my viffer and it still blows me away how good it is even though I've had it a few years. Your FZ1 is a bike I have always wanted to try as a do-it-all ride. Looks like you have it set up nice.

That wing is kinda cool. No doubt they are asking a healthy price for it.

Your doing the right thing by planning another season on your 500 and then doing a 600 - 650 bike step up. Getting more experience counts a lot for a novice rider - favorite quote on that... Luck & Experience "You start with a bag full of luck and an empty bag of experience. The trick is to fill the bag of experience before you empty the bag of luck." When a newbie rider buys more bike than they can handle, they use the luck up much faster than if they learn on a ride thats a better fit.

For the most part I buy all my cars and bikes used from a private owner vs any kind of dealer. I want to get the whole story on the bike/car before I decide anything. Also I have wrenched on a lot of cars/bikes so I'm good at inspecting stuff for condition. That said, watch craigslist, cycle trader, even look in the DDN want adds. Patience is key. (Agree withe the consenses of ebay no way, unless local)

I bought my VFR800 off ebay from a guy in Indianapolis. Guy said title was free and clear. Was ok, but I had to get a notory to sign off to allow me to get a Ohio title. The thing about the bike on ebay is you are taking the word of the seller that its ok. On my viffer, I didnt discover it till a month later that I had the bike in my posession, is that it is a California emissions spec bike. If I had known that up front, I may have passed on the deal. Over all I am happy with the bike, (stripped the CA junk) - but next go 'round - there will be no bikes bought unless I can directly inspect the bike and talk face to face to the owner.

^^^ Both ways - I'm kinda at how steep is steep? I might be tempted to do the dirt bike thing - stand on the pegs and cover the rear brake. Its probly a gotta be there thing, but covering the front could an invite for a wash out. - Caveat for me - I yanked the linked brakes off my ride. - Hated them.

The linked brakes on your ride will make it a PIA.
