  1. http://www.partzilla.com/ for OEM parts... I've had good luck with Ron Ayers too.
  2. Same thing in the automotive engineering world..... Pic of Delphi connector for stator replacement.......with crimped style terminals....
  3. + 1 - -- The stator connector is a weak link on Hondas, (For that matter, the wire gauge stator side on it is damn wimpy too. ) if you dont keep up with them, they could look like,,, That why I like the MetriPack series connectors 450s or 630s for the stator connector. High amp specs and sealed. Used this 630 on recent R/R fix it job. (Rated 46 amps)
  4. Dude - grab this R/R kit.. www.roadstercycle.com
  5. The "good" R/Rs have a p/n like FH0xx aa and are newer design MOSFET technology. The "crap" R/Rs have a p/n SH xxxxA. (At least the OEM parts made by Shindengen.) ---- btw highly recommend - www.roadstercycle.com Honda was cheaping out on chargings systems for quite awhile and yours year is from the middle of it. My '98 VFR was part of that too. I rebuilt the whole thing. -- Anyhoo, here's a list to check the system. Start out buy confirming the battery is good. Go through all your connectors for burnt leads, dig deep. Crispy wires? Not good. Your gonna have to fix that! Individual spade connectors dont have enuff cajones to handle the stator to R/R connection. Some guys do a direct solder hookup and others (me) used automotive type Delphi MetriPack connectors that handle high current. Then---Go through this starting point quick list. You will need a multimeter too. Steps: - Recharge battery overnite - then to take it to Autozone, Batteries Plus, or similar to load test. -- Good? Bad? – An iffy battery can fake you out and act like a bad R/R. Buy new if needed. - With good battery fire it up, warm up for a minute or two. These are R/R quick checks--- --- With voltmeter at battery get voltages -- idle volts? 5000 rpm volts? What’s the numbers? Should be in 13ish min idle and in 14s at revs. If in the 12s at idle, try at 1900 rpm. - Check stator - 1. Pull connector apart. Set meter to resistance. Check pin to pin, 3 yellow wires, A to B, B to C, C to A. What’s the numbers? 3 separate readings --Should be less than 1.0 ohms. (Engine off) - 2. Check continuity from each A,B,C pin to ground, -- -should be infinity - nada nothing. no continuity. -- 3 separate checks. (Engine off, again connector is apart) - 3. Crank it back up. Do another pin to pin thing, but set meter on AC volts. idle and 5000 rpms. What's da numbers? Should start 15 -20ish and climb 50ish and more. Again – 3 readings, connector still apart. - Repeat hot. This quick list will catch the obvious stuff, but if you need to dig deeper check this chart. http://www.electrosport.com/media/pdf/fault-finding-diagram.pdf
  6. Hilarious! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cRtS8RTKr6M
  7. ^^^ The VFR being a V4 cooks my ass with the rear headers near the seat and I did the exhaust wrap thing on the front and rear headers. The company said to seal it with this stuff and it worked out fine. http://www.thermotec.com/products/12001-hi-heat-coating.html Gotta go thru cycles of warm up, cool down, warm up, cool down to bake it in. -It will stink and smoke good for a few times you start it up. -- Check out the site, Thermo Tec has a lot of good products for heat shielding.
  8. Ok the secret is - the job is Chief Engineer. hmmmm Funny how my avatar seems very appropriate for the moment.....
  9. I am more the lurker on this board vs a post whore, but anyhoo knowing the flavor of this place, I thought I would throw this out there for some debate fodder. Kinda of a goofy silly topic but anyhoo I am a veteran automotive engineer at the top of my game, lotsa products and projects and development stuff I have put in production. And of course the all out motorcycle geek foole too. Two wheels and its cool. Many years of bikes and styles, mostly of Hondas and Yamahas. But Harleys have never been it for me, I have riden 5 or 6 and well that's nice, but no thanks. (Not a dig on Harleys, they are just not me.) Out of the blue I have been invited to interview for a top engineering spot at Harley. I'm at - wow, an engineering spot for motorcycles! (but its on Harleys, -hmmmmmm, yawn) Would you work for Harley if you really arent a Harley guy? Just throwing out there for fun, whada say?
  10. Usually go 22 - 24k on chains for the VFR. I do clean and lube every 700 to 1000 miles
  11. Hope they set up a "bike nite" on a weekly basis. Used to like the two wheel Tuesdays....
  12. Dude - idea for you -- if you still want to try another phone, there is a cell phone repair place in the Cross Point shopping center that also sells used refurbished phones. They do have some Tmobile stuff. They might even be able to fix your current phone. -It might be worth your while to take a look. I bought a refurb from them and it worked out fine.
  13. I cant stand to ride without earplugs for even a short ride. I am more focused with the lower noise level. +1 to the Hearos Ultimate Softness series foam earplugs. I've tried a lot of different brands and these seem best.
  14. The 1200 looks like Honda use a refrigerator for insperation on styling.
  15. Those are it. I figured to take a chance and see how it goes. I'm sending them back. Nice gloves, but not for me.
  16. I generally like Teknics gear and north of 100 bucks, I think they would go in the "good gear" column. The fingers have external seams, but the thumb seams are internal and on the forefinger there is an internal seam on the thumb side from about the first knuckle down the side of the glove. Dont like those. Ok so who makes a totally external seam glove? Anybody make custom gloves anymore? (And yes, ATGATT)
  17. I am terrible about fit on gloves and boots. Anyhoo I went against my normal rule of only buying what I try on first and bought a pair of new Teknic Lightning gloves online. - I like them, but damn they are stiff and some of the seams kinda cut into my fingers. What is a normal time for break in for sport type gloves? (I am debating about sending them back) thanks!
  18. Holy shit! Gotta visit there sometime.
  19. Hi - from another Dayton area rider
