What they don't tell you is that the jobs that are being created are low paying jobs with little or no benefits while the jobs that are going away are the better paying jobs with good benefits. Several local companies have laid off workers and/or offered early retirement to many employees then switched to temps (at a much lower pay rate)to fill the positions vacated by those leaving. One of the places I work for did that with their environmental services department and hired nothing but temp agency workers back at half the pay and no benefits...I have never seen such a high turnover rate in that department as they have now.
Nah not really, I would rock a BMW GS or KTM 990 anyday. Beauty is subjective. I think the Versys and NC700X are cool looking bikes...to me ugly is defined by those gaudy chromed out HOGS with tassels ridden by dudes dressed like pirates.
Guys don't buy ADV style bikes to impress chicks...they do it to give themselves an excuse to get away from their wives for a weekend. However, if you do find a chick that is impressed by an ADV bike, she is a keeper.
He stood the bike up mid corner while trailing the brakes...what did he expect was going to happen. If he would have trusted his bike and leaned more he would have been fine. This is why they preach to stay the heck off of the brakes mid corner.
iPad Mini...I love mine. You can get a 16GB one for less than $300 used or a bit over $300 new. I downsized from a full size 16GB iPad 1 to a 32GB Mini just for the form factor and better processor. If you don't care about that stuff, you can find used iPad 1's on Craigslist all day for $200.
I would be down for a trip to Hocking..never been there with the bike before. Just need to square away a date so I can get the time off requested if need be.
I have Shift kevlar lined jeans, but I don't know how well they would hold up in a serious high speed slide. No impact protection either....note to self, don't crash.
If talking classic cars, I would want a 1966 Shelby GT 350 Hertz, I love the black and gold. Modern cars, probably an Aston Martin V12 Zagato for an exotic and a Cadillac CTS-V Coupe as a driver.
Best advice I can give is if you have to dump somewhere "public" i.e. rest stop/Wal Mart/Mall...etc where the bathrooms are always fucking gross, use the family bathroom. The family bathrooms tend to be WAY cleaner than the mens room (or womens for that matter). Just be sure that there are no little kids in there if ya gotta drop a deuce after a late night drinking beer chased with White Castle...that smell will scar a kid for life.
Tools, a new air compressor, a few PS3 games, clothes, etc. I picked up a ZG Double Bubble for my bike and an iPod Touch 5th gen (I am a music nut) as xmas gifts for myself . Went a little overboard on the kiddos this year as well. Hope Santa was good to everyone!!
Motorcycles are generally a hobby, not a career option (unless you are Dani Pedrosa) and unless you are a high level engineer or specialized mechanic the money is probably not going to be that great. Go for a high level engineering degree in a field that interests you to get a good paying career started, then buy all kinds of motorcycles and tinker around or do track days in your spare time. Just my 2 cents. Good luck with whatever you decide!
Cruisers really aren't more comfortable than your GS500...speaking from experience, especially a Sporty. Now if you are looking at a Goldwing or a Street/Ultra Glide then yeah, but they are out of your price range. I went to the dark side for a while (Honda Sabre 1100)...not too much longer I was happily back on a Ninja 650. To me, a sport tourer like a FJR or ST1300 or even a mild sportbike like a Ninja 650/Versys/FZ6/FZ1..etc would be a MUCH better choice.
OMG better not let my 5 year old see that..she would fall in love. I need to get something like that done, she loves to ride around the housing development with me on my bike as well. She has one of those electric dirtbikes, but there is nothing like your first bike with a real gas engine. I had been kicking around the idea of finding one of those old Honda mini bikes and redoing it for her...your project gives me some inspiration. You will definitely win "Dad of the Year" with that Christmas present!
Agreed, the Ninja 650 has been my favorite bike I have owned thus far. The only thing I think I would trade it for would be a newer 650 because the newer bodywork looks great.
