  1. 4 tie downs off the 4 corners of the bike....one each side of the bars, and one off each side of the rear. Many pickups anymore have 4 tie down points at the inside corner of the bed.
  2. Great vid Hob. We went out for a cruise Sunday after finishing tearing off our deck. Had an epic ride for sure!
  3. We used to just mount a piece of channel iron to a piece of plywood that fit snugly in the bed. Roll the bike up into the channel and strap it down.
  4. Mine are in the safe with a silicone coated gun sock on them.
  5. LOL, just thing of the economic boom that the fast food industry would feel if it was legalized.....their stocks would go through the roof! LOL
  6. Back in the day.........I would have simply followed him and............no cops, just me in my car and him in his. I can't begin to relate how many times in my youth where I did not let things like this go and would go to far reaching efforts to retaliate. Now, if that happened, I would let it go after the first encounter. There is no point and nothing to gain by taking it further. I know firsthand, believe you me.
  7. LOL, I remember buying our first new car back in '86. I kept going out in the garage to look at the motor compartment and the underside thinking I'll never see this area this clean again....lol....even took pics of it too. LOL Good luck with your new ride!

  10. My other son bought one of those KIA vans, supposedly a consumers choice for safety or some shit. It literally fell apart within a couple of years. A real pos imho.
  11. Beartooth Pass does not open until Memorial Weekend, but the year of our trip it was well into June and still buried in snow.
  12. LOL, I read the title of this thread and thought...no car is smart... but once again I learned something. There really are 'smart' cars. I checked and their gas mileage isn't all that for sure. You can get as good by buying a little more substantial vehicle which will probably last far longer. Our Camry's get 34-35 or so and my son's Civic gets around 40. He found his car with super low mileage and got it for like $5k or so. If it were me I would be steering my child toward something a little more substantive for when (inevitable) she gets involved in some sort of crash. But that's me.
  13. For a half shaft I found this- .Lower axle just enough to remove both halfshafts one at a time. Shift axle assembly in one direction, compressing one halfshaft while removing the other (1). Use caution to protect axle seal and journal when removing axles. 18.Remove axle assembly from vehicle and transfer to bench. Remove halfshaft(s).2.Using suitable screwdriver (1), remove axle shaft seal (2).3.Visually inspect halfshaft seal journal for damage (excessive seal groove, nicks, scratches, etc.). Replace halfshaft if necessary. Looks like you are correct about a half shaft setup Isaac.
  14. Iirc, some PD's are opting for BMW's instead of Harley's or Victories. http://www.freep.com/article/20120723/NEWS06/207230344/Michigan-State-Police-fleet-is-no-longer-all-American-as-BMWs-move-in-on-Harleys http://www.myreporter.com/?p=7156 http://www.bmwblog.com/2011/05/20/honolulu-police-department-purchases-additional-bmw-authority-motorcycles/ http://www.wral.com/news/local/story/8063973/
  15. We rode out and did a big loop going as far west as Salt Lake City. We did kill 4 days in Utah, but overall it took us nearly 16 days while riding 400-500 miles daily. Overall, iirc, we rode around 5k miles. One day in Utah we rode out to the Salt Flats in Nevada. That took several hours there and back. Seems I was figuring some mapping for riding to the left coast and back, nearly straight there and back using the majority of miles on the slab, and figured 2-3 weeks. That doesn't take into account having to lay over an extra day somewhere due to inclement weather or breakdowns either. Your idea is a great one though. There is so much absolute beauty right here within the continental borders....I have had this bucket list note to ride the entire US. Summertime across the northern latitudes, down a coast and back across the southern regions.
  16. Ebay has changed tons since I first used them, but then or now I would never buy a vehicle of any kind without having first seen it firsthand, test drive it, go over it with a fine tooth comb so to speak.
  17. R&R of a wheel seal requires pulling the particular axle. That usually requires opening the rear end to release the axle end. The leak here shows itself in the drum. R&R the front seal behind the yoke usually requires removal of the guts in the rear end which is more work and more $$$. The leak here shows itself all over under the vehicle.

    brisk

Was the definitive word for my ride yesterday. The thermometer said 45 degrees, my bike said it loved the cool temps but the old body was say 'wtf????'. Though my FXRG leather with unlined leather chaps, a pair of insulated textile gloves and a face sock gave me a ride where I was not really too cold, just stiff as all get out. Plus my glasses kept steaming over until I was running down the road. So I added some Seafoam to the gas tank, went and filled up and rode her til I knew the gas had worked itself into the carb bowls. Parked her, plugged in the trickle charger and she is ready for sitting.....but am I???? Still hoping to ride in Tues to cast my vote.
  19. things I learned when shopping for a HDTV. Lighting has a big bearing on which, plasma or lcd/led will work best for a person. We have a plasma with zero burn in. Another thing we learned was plasma's consume more power.
  20. Reminds me of hearing an interview with Ian Anderson of Jethro Tull fame. He said his entire music collection of his music is all on a digital medium even though much of the refinement of the music has been lost by doing so. Even the 'pro's' are 'going with the flow' anymore.
  21. I tend to look at things like that as 'what if this was my daughter'.....what would I do? Call the police, then go down and ask them to keep it down. If I see evidence of him beating her, then its 'on'.....at that point I could not just stand by. Being a woman it's best (probably) for you to just call authorities and later let your landlord know whats up.
