  1. I had a plan years ago to buy one of those new Springfield Socom 16 rifles when I could save up the cash. Problem being I have nothing that currently shoots .308 so it was going to mean another caliber to reload for. Fast forward to my over winter website browsing and I found a guy online that takes M-1 Garands and knocks them down to Carbine size. Takes a standard 24" barrel on the garand and cuts it down to the minimum 16 and a smidgen. So in all my awesome photoshop skills I created this picture to give myself an idea as to the final product. Being I already have 2 Garands I figured I could take my post war gun and try to make a Garand based Socom style rifle. Well, the gun is getting a lot closer to my photoshopped image. I now have the real top picatinney rail mounted on the gun and just today my Eotech 517 arrived and got thrown on. Now just to send the gun out to have the barrel cut down. WooHooo. Oh, dang those Eotechs are bigger mounted to your rifle than I would have expected. Holding one at the gun shop doesn't do it any justice when you actually lock it onto the rifle.
  2. And those speeds are the norm for 22LR. From what I was reading on the shorts and longs is they where both basically eclipsed by the LR when it was introduced and started to fall out of favor by the 1920-1930's. Shorts came out in the 1850's, longs in the 1870's and the LR in the 1880's. Seems there was even a 22 extra long in there that was completely phased out by the 1930's and is no longer produced. To be honest the only reason I even have shorts and longs in my collection is just so I can practice in the house during the winter. The CB Shorts and even more so the Aguila Super Colibri are so low powered they can be fired indoors with the proper precautions. From my little pump rifle hearing protection is optional, I still always wear it with the pistol. The bullet is a 20gr round at 500fps. Most airguns would kick it's butt at that speed. I use a large box filled with phone books as a backstop. The bullets only penetrate about 2 inches into the paper and I just change the front book out when it starts to get worn.
  3. I know CCI still makes longs. Looks like Aguila and Winchester still do also but I have never shot them. The only real advantage to the CCI cb longs is that they fire at around 700 fps so they are quiet. The CB shorts are even slower in the 5-600fps range. The cb long will feed in a 10/22 magazine, it won't cycle the action but it is great when you don't want to make a lot of noise.
  4. Here is an older gun with the 3 different sizes on it. It's a Stevens Model 70 visible loader, pump action .22 from roughly the early 1920's.
  5. 22 long rifle has a bullet diameter of .222, firing that in a barrel designed for a .223 diameter bullet is not going to hurt anything. The difference between 22 short, long and long rifle is only in case length and bullet velocities.
  6. Nope, there is a small difference. When I get home I will take a pic of the barrel on my old pump 22. It has all three listed.
  7. So, a showing of some of the calibers I have. First row, left to right 22 short 22 long 22 long rifle 22 magnum 7.62x25 Tokarev 9mm Parabellum .357 Sig .40 S&W 38 short 38 special .357 Magnum 32 WCF 45 ACP Second row, left to right. .22 Hornet .222 Remington .223 Remington .30 Carbine 7.62x39 7.62 Nato (.308) 7.65x53 Argentine Mauser .303 Brit 7.62x54r 25-06 30-06 16 gauge 12 gauge 2.5in flare 12 gauge Buckshot Well and of course the 50 BMG in the back, wish I had a loaded one.
  8. See what happen when you try and turn right in Nascar. All hell breaks loose.
  9. I would also say to check out the Triumph Sprint series of bikes. Sport touring with more power than the VFR's. It's the same 1050cc 3 cylinder engine they put in the speed triples. 100+ hp to the back tire and all day comfort. I did 1800 miles in 6 days last year on mine. 2 wheeled down to the dragon then did N+S Carolina, Tennessee and Georgia while we where down there before riding home. The bike was awesome in the twisties, even when loaded down with hard bags and luggage. Not sure how they ride 2-up but it is an option that nobody else has mentioned yet.
  10. Oh there is no doubting the dude rocks. A good explanation of whats going on for those that don't speak spanish. http://www.gizmag.com/spanish-engineer-crafts-the-worlds-smallest-v-12-engine/20636/
  11. If I remember correctly the mini v-12 you posted just runs on compressed air. It doesn't actually burn fuel. For a miniature scale V-12 that runs on actual fuel check out the Artus Motors. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S7Woeiyrpn4
  12. I'm giving up riding both my bikes. Well at least until the exhaust gets back from ceramic coating.
  13. They spelling in that article is terrible. I am glad they pay somebody for that crap.
  14. Unfortunately I have not had my machine folding in months. I couldn't support the extra electrical bill by having both computers and 4 video cards at 100% 24/7.
  15. They kind of hide that number. It is on the specs tab right behind the current and voltage numbers. It is 20% duty rated on 110 and 30% rated on 220 Rated Output 120V:90A/19.5V/20% 208V: 130A/17.6V/30% 230V: 130A/20V/30%
  16. I've never personally used that model but can tell you two general things when looking at welders. Make sure they take gas, watch your duty time. Something like what your looking at will accept a gas bottle so that is good. Next thing to watch is your duty cycle time. At max power you can only run that welder for 12 minutes of every hour or it will overheat and possibly be damaged.
  17. Have never actually purchased anything from these guys but if you are into high end turntables, they have them. I found the link a few years back while searching for a discwasher d4 for my dad. http://www.needledoctor.com/
  18. How to not get your ass kicked by the police. http://youtu.be/ltrVwExEn5E
  19. Forgot to mention, something that old probably fires either 2inch or 2-1/2inch shells and not the newer 2-3/4 shells.
  20. Looks like a standard side hammer gun to me. Just with the old style barrels are not proofed for nitro cartridges. You would need to find 12gauge shells loaded with black power. A buddy of mine has a gun very similar looking to that that has the newer style barrels. He can fire modern shells, just the light field loads and sporting clays stuff that doesn't have as much barrel pressure.
  21. I hate to sound negative. I unfortunately have very little respect for people that try to run from the law. It sucks because stuff like this makes both sides look bad. If the story you posted to go along with the video is correct and she truly was on drugs and a multiple repeat offender I hold not sorrow in my heart for her.
  22. Wall hanger material. Laminate steel means a Damascus barrel. They can be safe to shoot if they are in extremely good condition and you have them x-rayed for flaws. Otherwise keep if for the historic value and buy something more modern to shoot.
  23. I golf but already have 2 full sets of clubs or I would have picked them up, sorry. I have a set of Ping Zing, and also the Zing 2 irons. That's a good price for what you have along with that bag. Bump for you.
  24. Nothing against the other brands, just reloading a lot for my M1 garand. I prefer the harder primer cup on the cci mil spec primers.
  25. Need 5,000 of the CCI No34 large rifle military primers. Can't seem to find them anywhere local.
